Putting your pin in is acceptance of the car, so you need to make sure it’s at a standard you’d expect from a brand new car. Check paint and tyres/wheels plus the inside of the car. Make sure everything works before you accept the car.

January 16, 2024 at 11:09 pm #255471Thank you @MFillingham Do you know if they allow you to test drive the car.
January 16, 2024 at 11:31 pm #255477As @MFillingham say request to check over the car ensuring everying is there before putting the PIN in. Many dealers will have you sitting there filling out the final paperwork, handing over any advance payment due and entering the PIN, before you are shown the car.

As @kezo says they’ll want you to be doing paperwork and sorting money and PIN before you see the car. You need to be strong just to look around the car, I think your chances of a quick drive are pretty slim.
To be fair, most of us are just too excited to go through a massive checklist and go over the car with a fine tooth comb, do the best you can and be critical running home in the new car. You can always go back to the dealership if there’s any niggles.

January 16, 2024 at 11:48 pm #255484January 16, 2024 at 11:50 pm #255485It can take a while to get through the paperwork. Why would you want to test drive the car, its brand new? It is YOUR car, your lease car.
They will only allow you to drive it away, once you are added to its insurance etc.
But just make sure its the spec you ordered. They should go through the steps of linking your phone to the car and ensure all is well before entering the PIN.
The motability person is there to help you. Its not a shonky 2nd hand car dealer, or a rip off merchant.
Then drive away.
January 16, 2024 at 11:51 pm #255486Thank you @MFillingham I will do.
January 16, 2024 at 11:55 pm #255487@Ioniq I want to test drive so i can see if the car is working properly as others have stated to make sure to check the vehicle before entering my pin.
This is my first time with Motability so i don’t know how the process goes and was just asking for advice.
January 17, 2024 at 12:00 am #255488I know its the first time you are going through this process.
But the car will be working fine. When people suggest checking the car, its making sure the correct model, colour and spec is as you ordered.
I dont know how you will get on doing it your way.
Maybe someone else has requested a test drive on handover day??
January 17, 2024 at 12:14 am #255490The car will drive fine its brand new if any problems arise later book it in ask for courtesy car and all will be sorted

January 17, 2024 at 1:20 am #255492My first car back in 2021 i didn’t know to enter pin etc after inspection. ??♀️
One hour after taking the car, SEAT Ateca, I was sitting at a friend’s house waiting for RAC to come out to replace a defunct battery. Less than 8 miles travelled.?
Dealer had the car running when they handed it over. Got given the keys and that was it. I know it was in time of covid, but I had no clue how to even start the car anyway. Never having had an auto before.??
To top it all off. I then had to drive to London, 100+miles, in a car I’d never driven and had no clue where to find any controls, after receiving a call to, “get home quick, dad’s really ill.”??
Stressed then with waiting for RAC – who were brilliant. SEAT – who were bloody awful, “the car won’t start,”, SEAT rep “just go online and you’ll find all the info and videos.” ???
So, be warned. ???

January 17, 2024 at 6:41 am #255495Use a checklist like the one linked below
https://www.mynewmotor.co.uk/dist/pdf/pdi.pdf
remember you are paying for the car it’s your money so take your time and ensure it all works if you are on your own get the salesman to sit in car and ask him to operate the controls while you stand outside to check lights etc
some cars get damaged in transit so check the car with a very beady eye
ask the question is there anything missing from the specifications
the car dealer is not your friend this is just simply a business transaction and you are buying a product it’s up to you to ensure that product is what it claims to be
take your time have a tea or coffee it should take a good hour or two to save any regrets later
and it’s not 100% right then it’s not right do not be fobbed off with anything the dealer says
you can walk away at any point until you put the pin in
Good luck enjoy it
January 17, 2024 at 8:22 am #255499When I went to collect my Mazda CX5, checked it in the delivery area, right colour and model so entered the pin. The dealer went to bring the car round front and when he got out, had a pained look. Turned out it was a manual rather than automatic. He checked the paperwork and found he had incorrectly ticked internal order form.
Quick call to Motobility reversed the acceptance, he found the right car on the system available in 6 weeks so ordered that. As I was rendering the scheme and trading my own car in, we went ahead with that and he provided a brand new Mazda 3, just about to join their demo fleet, and I kept it until the new car arrived.
January 17, 2024 at 9:33 am #255507The basic idea, is to check-
Is in new condition – has no dents scratches
The spec of the car is the same as you ordered i.e right colour, engine size, its not missing heated seats etc that may be important to you.
If you paid extra for optional extra’s check they are there.
If you ordered an Auto check it not manual.
January 17, 2024 at 10:08 am #255511Don’t forget to take the spare key with you when you return the car, I’ve just got mine out of the safe ready for next week.
Far away is near at hand in visions of elsewhere.

you wont be able to test drive your new car. its new and new cars awaiting sale as ‘new’ are not driven as test cars.
the salesman should go through the controls etc and between you you can see as much as possible that it passes muster; but no test drive on car your getting.
Current Car: Hyundai Kona Premium EV...2 way 40kg hoist
Last Car: Toyota C-HR Excel Hybrid...4 way 80kg hoistJanuary 17, 2024 at 6:45 pm #255573Thank you everyone I collected the car today and it is perfect.
January 17, 2024 at 6:52 pm #255575We had a thorough examination of the car and the dealer showed us the controls and tested them all.
I had my dad with me as he is the one who will be driving the car.
