You’ll really enjoy it @sagwala all the complaints that people had on the ID forums have clearly been listened to and completely fixed. It’s a superb car.
@peterf that’s incredible efficiency. We are getting around 3.3 but then we are playing with EVERYTHING. Maps /aircon/ acc/ heated seats ( I know heated seats and air con sounds weird but a spine made of metal has interesting needs) . Intelligent octopus go is brilliant I put what time I want the car charged for and to what percentage and it maps when it charges depending on low grid usage. Even if outside of the 11.30 pm to 4.30 am low tariff if it decides the grid usage is low it charges the car and still gives us the 7.5 p rate. So far I cannot fault anything about either the new model id5 or BEV in general. I’m a convert.
@peterf it’s a great colour seems to hide muck too. It’s the free one so I think that why people avoid it but I really like it. No, not done motorway yet it’ll get a run out tomorrow of a 160 mile round trip motorway so we’ll see then. Ohme charger app seems not to be speaking to the charger and I can’t work out why but the VW app and octopus EV intelligent go are all working ( perhaps they’re overriding the Ohme ?) and it charged on 7.5 p smart rate last night so 🤷♀️. It’s enormous- the pictures don’t do it justice makes it look like a normal car but I just parked it next to a Range Rover and it was similar sized and the id5 wheels were far bigger ( makes for an extremely comfortable ride) .
Trying to find excuses to go out in it. I’m slowly working all the stuff out. This new software is very responsive and the buttons have a good depression feel to them and are backlit ( all things the older model of the ID 5 were criticised for) . Boot is HUGE. I seem to be getting 3.2 miles/kwh which bearing in mind I’m playing around with it I don’t think is too bad
@kj35 – Nice symbolism with the photo of the car outside the maternity home. Long awaited new addition to the family, pricey but not as expensive as actual babies. Looks great, enjoy.
hah!!
Oh it’s SO GOOD. You won’t be disappointed. I just accidentally turned on the driver assist ( I think that’s what it’s called ) and it virtually drove me around town slowing for roundabouts speeding back up , sensing the road hazards perfectly , knowing when speed limits changed. All I had to do was steer the wheel- GAME CHANGER for a disabled person. Obviously I didn’t trust it completely and hovered over the brake but it wasn’t necessary. Every doubt and concern I had about going electric or getting the ID5 completely out of the window. Completely the right choice for me.

3 sleeps until pick up on my grey ID 5 style pro. Very excited ( bit of trepidation as the forums seem full of people with issues but it does seem to be the older models)

@kezo £51 including postage I used a mate’s account as I don’t have one any longer. Possibly a bit over the odds but seller has good feedback and I’m happier with that than the £240 VW wanted.
@mfillingham it’s exactly why I wanted one, just to make sure I’ve got enough charge to get me to a fast charger. I fully intend to stay with electric cars if they keep selling them so I’m sure it’ll get some use over the years.Good question. I visit a friend frequently who lives very rurally. I’m picturing being able to plug in overnight to at least buy me a few miles to get to a fast charger . Alternatively I am also considering what would happen if something goes wrong with my fitted charger. But you’re right both those scenarios are probably unnecessary ( ie I can charge at the motorway services 30 miles before her house or here if my charger fails I’d be able to use a neighbour’s)
Does it have to be VW branded do you know @kezo ? Or just any type 2 granny charger?
Hah! Made me smile ! Apparently into the usb port under the console apparently I can then override it when it’s typing in new instructions on its own.
yeah. No.
After speaking to motability about my concerns with the car I’ve requested that the dealer confirms the car is safe to drive ( in writing) after being told to plug in a mouse to override the console ( when driving) . It appears they can’t do this. Next stop RAC.
April 2, 2024 at 4:57 am in reply to: Are Motability now forcing EVs where they aren’t suitable? #270811I think we are guinea pigs for wider society. A government wholly intent on BEV in the 2030s needs to iron out all the wrinkles that the change to electric presents. What better way than its own little subsided scheme with a bunch of sitting ducks who haven’t much choice if they want to keep the heavily reduced car. These are the legs for disabled people, our lifelines and we are being experimented on.
I just watched the console try to type in a different destination on the maps. That was super weird it was like invisible fingers ( I realise it’s the touch sensitive screen picking up odd inputs ) and yes wing mirrors folding.
my spinal injury was caused by a car crash ( not my fault ) and my number one requirement from a car is that it feels solid and safe for obvious reasons so I guess I’m overreacting a little.
Thanks @oscarmax that makes it feel a little better to hear that from someone who’s experienced it
I’ve not had the app working on my new phone it just wouldn’t sync at all. But that’s a good point I’ll try to re sync it tomorrow and see if it works.
I think if I knew it was just affecting certain things and what they were and that they weren’t safety issues I’d be fine like you say most things I’ve listed are ‘ nice to haves’ but every day seems to bring yet another thing failing and I’m getting worried that they’re getting to be more and more serious .
@oscarmax did motability help at all ? I must admit it’s scared me a little today and I’ve a couple of longer journeys to family coming up which I might cancel now.
Oh grief 🙁 that isn’t good. I was hoping someone would say it’s all ok . I think I’m going to speak to the garage after the bank holiday and get them to confirm in writing that they believe the car is still safe to drive and why ( which is their current stance although to be fair they don’t know about the headlights that’s just started) . If they won’t I need to speak to motability. As I said I can cope with loss of maps radio and accessing the charger timer etc but safety warning signals and headlights failing is not ok.
like you said it seemed to start with one or two small things but now seems to be spreading throughout the system of the car
Blimey, this is now getting worse the console sometimes is now completely black. The auto headlights and warning traffic system isn’t working. The maps if the console lights up idoesn’t come on or freezes. And I can’t change any of the settings including the timer for the plug in charger 🙁 .
could anyone else who has had this happen let me know if all the safety systems still work while this is happening? Breaks / regeneration/ airbags etc ? I’ve lost faith in my garage. The new console is on order but might take months. I could kind of live with most of it but auto headlights no longer working has started making me think it’s a bit more serious than I initially thought

I do love the bmw i4 but it just screams uncomfortable ride to me , I had to give back a spectacular bmw 3 series sport model as the ride was simply too hard it was agony ( non motability this was when I could still work and had a company car)
We eliminated the i4 as it was too low, felt very claustrophobic inside (shallow windscreen, almost as if the sun visors are down) and rear seat access, but I don’t think that any reviews have suggested that the ride is poor though?
it just looks low and sporty ( and beautiful) with a hard ride designed for people who enjoy feeling the road. It does seem to be what a couple of people report on the i4 thread. But I’m sure it’s nowhere near as bad as the run flat version I had . Even non disabled people were handing them back the model got uplifted fast
£7999 AP
^^ yep and there’s THAT !!
I just need to correct something I said at the beginning of this thread. The match DOES have heated seats , the VW specs had just gone live the day I was ordering and I think either I miss read them or they weren’t complete. I’m sticking with my ID5 style pro order as I absolutely loved the feeling in the cabin with the panoramic roof. However if anything happens to my order to mess it up ( stock order and I’m convinced it’s going to be given to a private customer) then I’m back to the drawing board and will consider q4 again if AP improves. If that top spec acid yellow Enyaq ever joins the scheme I think I’d cancel everything and order that. It’s spectacular. I do love the bmw i4 but it just screams uncomfortable ride to me , I had to give back a spectacular bmw 3 series sport model as the ride was simply too hard it was agony ( non motability this was when I could still work and had a company car) . It’s 4 am, I should be asleep. The joys of disabling pain eh ?
I think we like the same cars. I’ve an ID5 on order but if they drop the AP of the Q4 I may have a rethink. I absolutely fell in love with the id5 though , the comfort and the panoramic roof and the space.
