I understand they are going to pull out of Turkey too.
The problem with VAG cars are the horrendous delivery times, Volvo, Mercedes and BMW also suffer with the same issues. Kia, Hyundai, Suzuki, Toyota, Mazda and some others can provide cars within 2-4 weeks as they have a different business model and generally don’t offer options. This may be a different way forward for some who prefer a shorter delivery time. Maybe not for all, but some.
I chose the X1 as it was good value for money, a £450 discount off AP and well equipped. I had a 1 series a few years back and it drove like a dream but I need something with a higher driving position and having had a good experience with both BMW as a brand and our, then, local dealer I went for the X1. Its a decent car to drive, not great, probably down to being FWD, something reinforced when I had a 116d as a courtesy car for a day. Its quite noisy at high speed with tyre roar and road noise the biggest culprits , the chassis struggles to handle the 192ps on full acceleration and the comfort seats are just about OK. My experience of two dealers has not been good and I have had power loss issues which have been diagnosed but have not been resolved, hence the change of car. In other respects it’s a decent car but it will almost certainly be my last BMW.
I had an Uncle who use to service Merc’s and BMW’s in the 80’s when they were considered real premium cars, way ahead of Ford’s, Vauxhall’s and Datsun’s etc and he told me to work hard and one day I might be able to afford one of my own. I have “owned” 2 BMW’s and have driven four Merc’s. My 1 series aside, I was not impressed with any of the others and I think it’s fair to say the gap has closed considerably and in some cases other manufacturers have now overtaken Mercedes and BMW’s certainly with their more mainstream models.
Thanks. We chose micron grey with a black interior. Beige or grey leather meant a 6 month wait but black leather just 2-4 weeks. Our current X1 is white and it gets dirty very quickly even with GEN coat so we opted for a darker colour. I didn’t really consider white sand and wish I had but happy with grey. My X1 is an awful car with power loss issues and Motability agreed to an early termination. I wanted to make sure we had the car asap and prior to 29th March. I was impressed with the drive, 1 hour unaccompanied. The 1.6 petrol is fairly quick, it certainly feels quicker than it claims to be and the list of standard kit is impressive. It is quieter than my X1 and the ride was good, even on 19″ alloys and it looks great. Dismissed the car last year as it appeared thirsty. Now we have the new WLTP figures, these show a similar figure to my X1 whereas the old figures had a 9mpg gap. This is borne out by Equa Index too. I fully concur with your comments on the “order now or Q2” thread and we shall have to wait and see.
I am due to take delivery of a Premium SE in a couple of weeks. Black interior. Grey or Beige has a 6 month wait. Will let you know how I get on with it. As you say, under £2k.
I had a 3008 as a loan car, nice but the 1.2 petrol engine was a bit raucous. Would certainly recommend having a look at the Tucson.
I wish you well, enjoy today.
If we leave on WTO and a 10% tariff applies this could result in much higher AP’s. If we leave with a deal and transition period there should no difference. As it is becoming more difficult to predict it is very much a heads or tails scenario.
February 12, 2019 at 9:59 am in reply to: Peugeot 5008 SUV 1.5 BlueHDi GT Line Premium delivery #70426Kia, Hyundai, Mazda, Suzuki, Nissan & Toyota all quoted me delivery within 4 weeks and as short as 2. They tend not to offer any extras, only colour choices and dealer fitted accessories so many of their cars are built and shipped and they often have a selection either in stock or “en route” for delivery in 2-4 weeks. If a particular colour and interior is desired then the wait could be 2-4 months. Generally they use a different business model to the European car makers who factory build with the requested options.
February 11, 2019 at 10:46 pm in reply to: Peugeot 5008 SUV 1.5 BlueHDi GT Line Premium delivery #70414Many manufacturers are able to supply cars in a matter of 2-4 weeks. These tend to be those of Japanese/South Korean.
I spoke to Motability last week. They confirmed the price cap has not altered this year. I do recall the caps of £29k and £30.5k (manual & auto) introduced at the start of last year related to the price of the entry models on 1st Jan 2018 and any price rise which took the car over the cap would be disregarded for the remainder of 2018. I assume (dangerous, I know) this practice has been carried over to 2019? This could be an issue when new cars are launched, like the RAV4 and Q2 may give some answers in this regard.
I believe as long as a car meets the cap limit Motability can allow other trim levels/engine combinations up to £33.5k and £35k to be available on the scheme.
I didn’t expect it to drag out so long. I think we could be in for a few more weeks of twists and turns.
An interesting couple of weeks. I suspect the PM’s deal with a backstop tweak will win the day, just.
I spoke to Motability this week, they confirmed no changes to the cap or max AP’s this year.
Enjoying reading posts of this long running saga.
I have a 20i s drive x1 auto. It’s ok but being front wheel drive is not a true BMW. Handling is not as inspiring as my old 1 series and if you apply full power the front wheels sway as if there is too much power for the car to handle. The tyres are a bit noisy and as reported in the thread the gearbox, in my case 7 speed dct can on occasions be very hesitant in 1st gear on pull away. The seats are not overly comfortable. On the plus side the car is quick fuel efficiency of 43 is very good and the car is well equipped practical and well built. Have to say BMW customer service from two dealerships leaves a lot to be desired. Hope that’s of some help. In lay man’s terms a 3*. A little underwhelming.
I sat in a Kia Ceed at the shopping mall today. A 1st edition. Great spec well built and comfortable seats. Headroom not great due to sunroof.
Hi Trev. Yes I will post in the main forum on car related matters. I have a rule in my personal life not to discuss matters of a political or religious nature due to their divisive nature and it was perhaps inevitable the Brexit thread would cause disharmony. On the x1, 4000 miles already. Car still very good to drive though not as sharp as our old 1 series and 43mpg which is better than expected from the 2.0i. Have a busy fortnight ahead so hope to post on more regular basis.
<p style=”text-align: left;”>I have not posted for a bit but was intending to put a long post on the Brexit thread only to discover it has been closed. Having read the recent posts I cannot agree it has become libellous and toxic, but it simply contained views at variance with some posters who did not like the direction of travel the conversation and opinions were headed. Regrettably the forum has lost several posters and I must now add my name to the list as this shall be my final post.</p>
Hi Wigwam. I have now covered just over 3000 miles. The second and third tankfull’s I did on a brim to brim basis. The actual consumption was just a mile less than the computer figure, so from my experiences I would say the trip computer is reasonably accurate. Mine now shows 44.7 which in reality is probably nearer 43.7. After driving very carefully over the first 1000 miles I have and am now using the full 192ps and whilst thus has had some effect on fuel consumption, by my calculations which I will not detail here, its about 2mpg.
I have to say low to mid 40’s is very good and better than expected.
Overall very pleased with car, heated seats come in handy on cold mornings. Will try and post a hit more now back from hols.
I have to agree, X1.

I remember my old boss talking delivery of his Cavalier (company car) which was driven delivery and pointing out to the driver half a dozen faults including a poorly fitted sunroof and defective electric window. The driver said “what you have to do is contact Vauxhall who will ……… now I need you to sign there and I’ll be off.
The reply is not suitable for this forum but needless to say no signature was forthcoming and the driver was sent on his way with the car with instructions to re-deliver once all the faults had been rectified.
Quality control has come a long way but is not perfect. The electric tailgate on my X1 is temperamental, sometimes not responding to the remote command or the release switch on the boot and occasionally only opening a few inches. The drivers seat command however works first time every time. A possible visit to the dealer if it worsens.
I have to concur. Very poor dealer experience which has left a sour taste. I think customer service overall has sn continues to deteriorate.
ECO PRO does make a difference. In my view the car is smoother and more relaxed to drive but in the background is the 192hp if needed. I am on my second tank and will fill to the brim and get the calculator out and do the maths to give an accurate mpg figure. After 167 miles of motorway, urban and country the on board computer is showing 47.5.
Amazed that fuel consumption is showing 49mpg after refuelling and 50 miles. A mix of country lanes near home and a couple of visits to town.
