They’re literally saying to get a Motability car you must have a mobile phone with whatever requirements the drive smart app has. Why should they use my data? You have 10 days to fit the device and install the software, can’t wait to present them with a Nokia 3310 and say how do I put the app on it. Since when was it a requirement to have a smartphone to have a car. I turn mine off or it goes in airplane mode in the car. I’m not installing spyware on my phone that’s a bridge too far, way too far. I see this was also brought up in parliament. The trial in NI saw 300 of us lose their cars and 25% of us will be affected by the mileage reduction too. I still think this was MB opening gambit if they got away with it great, if not they go to slightly less restricted terms and say see we listened…. Try and come out looking like the good guys.

This is well documented if you either dont have a smart phone or your phone is not compatible they will install a standalone box instead.

it has also said they MIGHT install a different box, and if they don’t allow it you have to give the car back

Not sure if people know this but apparently the policyholder has to also download the app and add the drivers even if the policyholder doesn’t drive, someone has had their insurance cancelled because the policyholder didn’t do it.

                Direct line insurance for motability.

I am the same thought it had a refresh recently it was 2024 that was a major one the next one is 2027 but only a light refresh.

It won’t be due to either of those issues, as it’s not a luxury car and it’s too soon for a refresh. I suspect that as they were only offering the base model and the AP was very high there was very little demand for it. Hyundai have a habit of periodically offering very keen prices on certain models, so hopefully it may return at some stage at a more reasonable price, but it’s anybodies guess!

Lucky you we had to pay £99 for the 8m cable last year

You don’t pay any more, i.e. you don’t pay anything, to have the 8M tethered home pro. We had ours installed 2 weeks ago with the 8M cable.

Wonder if motability take into account the fact that tyres on an ev have a smaller starting depth

well, I did say I was going to wait until Q1 to order but with all the uncertainty going around I decided to order a Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Line S this morning. The dealer did say if the AP goes down next quarter he will cancel and reorder at the new AP which was good of him, he also didn’t ask for a deposit which was a surprise.

You will love it, we have had ours 7 weeks now and love it.

Random question for a non EV owning luddite: if your charger is on the wall of your ground floor flat, what’s to stop anyone else using it? Is there a cut off inside your property? Or is it controlled by an app of some kind?

yes in the app you can set it to authorise each charge

Motability will try to save as much as possible. Applying for the grant gets them the money to save. It’s still worth noting the install is what they classify a ’standard’ install. That’s 15 metres of cable a hole in one wall, breaker box near the fuse box and attach charger to the wall. They will want proof that there’s a drive for the car and pictures of your fuse box to be sure everything’s good to go.

the breaker for our charger is outside near the electric meter box, they didn’t put anything inside the property and didn’t touch our fuse/trip box
