Hello everyone when I ordered my car from Volvo they offered me an option to add something Gard. This is a product that protects the paint from pigeon droppings and also they put it in the interior on seats and Matt’s etc. It’s supposed to make cleaning the interior a lot easier and protects the paint. I said yes in the moment but then when I left I thought I don’t think I should have got that. Do you think it’s a waste of money and I should call up and cancel it and maybe upgrade the sound system to the Harmon Kardon instead. Would be grateful for any advice thank you

Is it guard x, I had this in the past and it’s not really worth it, there are better and cheaper ways to protect paint work

These car treatments are a huge profit generator for dealers and a rip off for consumers. They charge hundreds for products that you can buy yourself for a tiny fraction of the cost.

Thank you for the reply’s I’m guessing it’s the Gard X. I jst remember hearing him say gard and then explained what it was. Am I able to just call up and tell him to cancel this gard option or would I have to take my mum who’s car it is all the way back to the dealership to alter this off the order and also ask them to upgrade the sound system to the Harmon Kardon instead thank you for the reply’s

Under no circumstances let them charge you for guard x, phone up and tell them no I have changed my mind I don’t need it. They will try and talk you into it but be firm and say no it is not my car.

Thank you belfast4 I will give them call very soon. Does anyone with the Harmon Kardon sound system think it is worth it to get as an extra compared to the standard Volvo xc40 sound system. I actually thought the plus pro came with the Harmon Kardon system but apparently it doesn’t thank you

I’ve seen a number of dealerships try different products from the numerous Guard or claimed Ceramic coatings.  My response is always no!

If you really want to protect the paintwork then find a detailer who will clean the car and apply a decent protective layer but nothing is permanent.  They’ll all need a top up after time, whether it’s 2 years or 6 months.

 

Given it’s a lease car, I’d just wash it regularly and be done with it.  You’ll spend a small fortune for no real benefit if you protect the paintwork.

Email the dealer, so its in writing you do’t won’t it.

Guard x kit’s are available for £25 on ebay, if every you wanted to apply it one Sunday afternoon 😂

thanks for the reply’s. The Gard x has been cancelled and the sound system meant I had to re order the car from new so would have been a 3 month wait so I just left it as it is but cancelled Gard X which was the main thing. Appreciate all the reply’s and opinions thanks

As kezo said email them first and ask can the sound system be added to the order. Once that is sorted email them again and cancel the paint protection. If you cancel the Paint protection first they might just say no for the sound system just to be picky.

Just yo add my tuppence worth!

I had an XC40 for 3 years and the interior was white leather. The driver’s seat stitching discoloured but the leather only slightly discoloured after 3 years and average 12000 a year. A normal leather cleaner cream will suffice and nothing was mentioned when it was returned and I received by good condition bonus, so you don’t need it!

Don’t waste your own money to protect something you don’t own, take reasonable care of it through the lease and your GCB (If there still is one in 3 years) will be secure.

My neighbour used to send his cars back in a terrible state and always got his GCB.
