I have been following this thread with a wry smile. Before retirement I built, managed and looked after large amounts a lot of Windows PC’s starting with Win2, over the years. When I retired I bought myself an iMac and to be honest have never looked back. Yes iMac’s are expensive, yes they are difficult to upgrade or fiddle with, but they also work. My current iMac is 2011, and other than op sys upgrades, has not rebooted for over 12 months, has not crashed once and all the software I need is provided for free by Apple or Open Source. A machine built 10 years ago will run Windows faster and more reliably than any PC I have ever come across, including Win 11 as part of the Insider Program.
Yes I know iMacs aren’t for everyone in the same way as PC’s aren’t either. Mine is linked to two Synology NAS servers (heartily recommended) and links seamlessly to everything I have ever tried to connect it too. I am so glad my fighting with PC days are over.
I hope you all manage to get Win11 up and running, using the excellent support on the forum, but if not try an iMac, they really are worth the expense. Just a thought, ask yourself how much you have spent on PC hardware in the last ten years and will your latest pride and joy still be working in 10 years, running the latest software/operating system.

@wwigwam I have no intention of arguing the point, I know who is right, so let’s leave it at that. The facts are clear, irrespective of what the internet thinks. Case closed.

But of course constitutionally no State can leave without the agreement of the rest. That was settled by the Civil War. I doubt anyone wants another one of those.
Not quite sure this is actually correct. Texas was/is a Republic in its own right and could set up on its own if it was decreed necessary.

My Tarraco has a number of semi autonomous systems, all of which can be turned off from the steering wheel. They work within specific criteria and as such default to the “on” position each time the engine is started. So far (3 months) they have all worked as advertised and have not created any issues, with one exception, which was caused by snow on the front sensor, which I believe is mounted in the wrong place. The electronics informed my by message and warning lights that certain systems where inoperative.
GPS systems always carry a health warning, it is up to the driver to determine the instructions given are lawful and safe and maps are up to date. Every car I have ever owned, that has had either a built in GPS, or a standalone unit occasionally makes mistakes so I don’t ever rely on it completely.
In the same way I don’t rely on driver assist, but I do use it. Lane assist has its uses, but I turn it off in bad weather. It does not stop me from steering the car, it warns me gently that I may be moving out of lane. It only works over about 35 mph, and cancels immediately if the indicators are used when changing lanes, which is good disciple anyway. It has never, so far, tried to take over.
Adaptive Cruise Control is brilliant, it stops me tailgating, reacts to the speed of the car in front and I use it extensively, it will even bring the car to a halt when joining a traffic queue, but it is always under my supervision.
I think the name, Driver Assist, says it all, it is there as an assistant, it helps me so I support it. However it is, and always should be, used under my supervision, so I welcome it and would like to see more of it generally available.

My XC60 D4 auto over3 years+2 year extension and 77000 miles returned 44 mpg over mainly urban/town driving with occasional motorway runs. Best it ever got was 48 and worst 35. Not a fast driver, but not a slow coach either. If I remember rightly Volvo quoted over 50.
Current Tarraco 2.0 petrol auto 4 drive over 2300 miles is 34.8mpg which is better than the quoted WTLP.

Just looked back at the paperwork I was given at the time of ordering and the T&C’s spell out what the dealer will accept. CC payments need to be made 3 days before delivery to allow funds to clear, cash up to £1000, Bank Transfer 3 days before delivery, Debit card on the day, but they will insist on checking the funds have cleared before handover.
It might be a good idea to check the paperwork first.

When I wanted to pay via CC I was told I would need to pay in full three days before the car was to be delivered. Opted to pay with Debit Card on the day.

December 14, 2020 at 8:28 pm in reply to: New £3.50 charge to drive into Greater London considered #132203Am I right in saying that if the car is taxed as Disabled, then no congestion charge is paid currently? One might assume this would still be the case, but with the way things are at the minute who knows.

Well done sounds like a good deal. Having said that I have always had mats fitted automatically by the dealer as part of the Motability contract. My Tarraco came with mats for all 7 seats, half a tank of petrol and no discount on the AP!

December 7, 2020 at 4:22 pm in reply to: Can anyone help hoistin boot supposed to be transferable what a joke #131496Having been through a lot of pain changing cars, the hoist in the Volvo XC60 would not transfer successfully to the Tarraco and a new one was needed. As it happens this did not matter as the XC60 was on a two year extension, so had to be replaced anyway.
Firstly I would talk to Motability about this. There may be good reasons why the company will not transfer the hoist, it may not fit the new car. Have you asked them why they will not transfer it? As far as I am aware you need to order the hoist/transfer at the same time as you order the car.
Secondly I would ask another Adaptation Specialist if the hoist you have, and what you want to lift with it, will fit the new car. They have computer programs that work out all the combinations.
Good luck I hope you get sorted, it took several attempts to ensure everything would work successfully.

A good source of information might be your local authority advice service, or Citizens Advice. They were increasingly helpful when my wife was going through PIP, suggesting different phraseology and using DWP speak to aid the application.

@vitalspin but then you have to use the worst operating system Winwoes 10 I have ever experienced. I have iMacs and a top of the range Winwoes 10 laptop. Winwoes requires booting everyday, sometimes twice, iMacs never reboot unless its an Operating System upgrade. You can run Winwoes on a Mac if you must, in fact when I tried it Winwoes 10 ran better, faster and with a load less trouble on a 10 year old iMac than on a 2020 Lenovo laptop.

Photos were taken at last service and MOT (August 20) and sent to Motability by the garage. On handover day to the new car, last month, further photos were taken, inside and out, and sent to Motability whilst we were waiting. Nice cheque arrived 3 days later. Someone was on the ball, and we are not at all complaining!

I will have to see if I can find it again. If I remember correctly Blomquist was the driver.

The current Volvo XC60 only has goo, but the B class Merc I had before had run flats and no spare fitted. One the one occasion I did have a flat, KwikFit couldn’t find a tyre and the car had to be recovered to home. The tyres used to delaminate frequently, must have had 4 complete sets in three years.
