If your wife has a bad back then the reversing issues will be the very least of your problems. The XC40 has the worst suspension of any car I can remember owning. It bounces all over the place on uneven roads and the lateral wobbling does my back in no end.

Not noticed this at all actually. Was quite impressed with ride quality, especially in front seats when we test drove the car a couple of times before committing.

Rear seats I am less impressed with but we’ve had the car for a week and so far so good on the whole.

Thank you so much, i got the paperwork from motability today and finally managed to log in and it just shows little time clock where it shows Dealer ordered vehicle 🙂 hopefully its not crazy long as some seem to wait for a year!

You will need to check with the dealer leadtimes. It doesn’t mean that the dealer has placed the order with Volvo. Guidance I have seen from other posts is to check when the build slot is for the car. I had seen posts and videos last year where dealers were putting on hold orders for ICE cars as they had to meet EV targets. So check with your dealer the order has been placed with Volvo. I had to chase them for this.

Echo what others are saying. Ignore the haters and stay off social media.

Enjoy your car without guilt or fear. Current AP on BMW EVs start at a whopping £6,999 so even more reason to enjoy your i4 which is not on the scheme at the moment.

Did a 30 mile journey yesterday in our new XC40 and averaged 38.9mpg. I expected better actually as I was driving gently. I still need to figure the car out and how to eke the most out of the hybrid drivetrain.

I knew the mileage the car gives was its weak point but overall the car seems to be excellent as an initial impression so we are happy with the choice we made especially taking into account the AP.

There is talk of a brand new model next year but I suspect the AP will be a lot more. Time will tell.

We ordered in early December (with an extra so it was built for us) and picked the car up last week. It arrived at the dealership late Feb so it was 3 months from order to collection.

Incidentally, they did handover for 20 Motability cars – mostly XC40s – last week – all on the new 25 reg.

My dealer seemed to be doing well with Motability customers as well. Hopefully you’ll get lucky and they’ll give you the MY26. Just be wary of the over enthusiastic auto braking when you’re in reverse. It’s so violent that when it’s gone off I’ve been convinced I’ve hit something despite being nowhere close to anything, yesterday I was a good 4 feet away from the barrier in the car park when it went off and it really jolts your back, it even hurt my peak of fitness son!

Thanks @Ruby2002 – good advice on the reverse auto braking. My wife suffers from a bad back and being jolted in a car is painful for her- this was one of the reasons we got a bigger safer car.  Will have to be careful when reversing.

The salesman said today the MY26 car won’t be coming till later this year so I have got the MY25. Hopefully the software update will be free for ACC to be turned on. If not, I’ll do without it.

Interesting- we pick ours up this Friday. It was ordered in Dec. I suspect it will be like yours the MY25 model.

On a separate point the salesman told me that he has to do 20 Motability handovers this week in just this single dealership.

Noticed that we haven’t had a “vehicle numbers” update today, so I checked the MB website – showing 891, which is 101 less! Can anyone reveal what’s been removed?

                    wmcforum

”Friday 28th February 2025 – Vehicles on the Scheme – 992                                         No Change

(search shows 891 but there appears to be an issue adding up all the vehicles, there are 992 listed)”

We have our own formula (a) How much do you like it and want it, (b) How much are you willing to pay, (c) Can I afford it (d) And the biggy what does the wife say (it overrules all of the above).

agree with this. 3 and a bit years ago we decided only to go for a car with zero AP. This time around I didn’t want to spend more than £1500 and ended up spending little more with an 360 camera extra but worth it to make driving easier.
There are still choice for all budgets in my opinion even with the upward trajectory for APs (and how much car prices have risen in the last 10 years). Shame however the Motability choice is limited, given how some manufacturers are struggling…

@kezo there is a photo of an EX30 in a Morrisons car park which has clearly accelerated at some speed as it’s sitting on another cars bonnet. That was the point Geoff was making. Some, might be very small numbers agreed, struggle to handle that amount of power.

Don’t get me started on (blanket) 20mph zones – lol

Not his normal style I have to say @glos-guy. He’s a big old Volvo lover – thinking what’s better for the planet is running old cars that have plenty of life left in them. He’s done some entertaining videos with a chap called MacMaster in terms of petrol vs EV (Porsche Taycan) challenges. The MacMaster is definitely one for click bait tiles.

Geoff Buys Cars has done a lot of very insightful videos – stuff you won’t find in the Main Stream Media. I do like his content hence following him.

The point of the Volvo EX30 being faster than a Ferrari Testarossa is a real one and I take the point some won’t know how to handle so much power, but he didn’t need to do the click bait title – as it does misrepresent the scheme.

There are fools and Neanderthals everywhere unfortunately, and many in government as well but that’s another story…

No doubt dealers are pushing Motability customers towards EVs as they struggle to meet the bonkers EV mandate. Those not well informed about what to get can be badly guided.

Motability does offer choice but is heavily geared towards EVs as you mentioned @Glos-Guy  . Motability foundation not helping from other threads in this forum. The cost of certain cars especially PHEVs are making them unaffordable to many.

I did email Geoff Buys Cars earlier this evening, as I’ve followed him for some time, and have given him my views letting him know I’m actually moving from an EV back to a petrol car. Made the offer of a call but I’m sure his email will be bursting with so many subscribers.

There are currently in auto trader 408 (!!!) pre-registrated Jaguar I-paces for sale, all with less than 500 miles, starting at just under £38k – effectively on sale at half price. Not sure why JLR have flooded the market as it kills residuals but they must have had to pre-register in order to meet the bonkers ZEV mandate.

Nevertheless, they do represent really good value and I am sure with so many sitting on the forecourt, additional deals – maybe on financing to be done. I fear for long term residuals though.

I test drove one when they first came out and it’s a good car and arguably one of the best looking SUV EVs as well.

I did briefly debate whether to leave the scheme altogether but we decided to stay on for the sheer convenience MB offers, not to mention rising insurance prices etc.

Good luck with what you decide.

He also did a great video on how cars have got a lot fatter comparing a BMW E46 M3 to the current model which has ballooned in size, like most cars.

Geoff Buys Cars also did a great video this week on how the 4 Door Suzuki Jimny sold out 3 years production in 4 days. He said car makers are missing a trick and 100% they are. He touched upon a Suzuki Hustler kei car in the same video, which really looks like a funky wonderful car

The likes of the Fiesta and Audi A1 have been discontinued. Madness when you think about parking challenges and navigating tight spaces when cars parked on both sides of the road.

Hi all, we ordered a Volvo XC40 in December – the dealer told us it will be delivered next month. We added a 360 camera to the spec and the dealer insisted on a £250 deposit which we paid. We have now changed our mind on the car. I saw the message from @Glos Guy saying we need to cancel with the dealer which we will do so on Monday. Just wondering if we should expect any issues with the deposit being returned? Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

hi soul777, would you mind sharing why you cancelled your order for the xc40? And which car you’re going for? As I also have an order for the same car but in two minds regards fuel efficiency. Kind regards

hi @rosie54 – I was all set to go the dealership to cancel when my wife changed her mind. The reason we were going to cancel was primarily rear seat comfort and secondly mpg fuel efficiency. We have a second car that I use for work that she said we can use for long distances if the rear bench is too uncomfortable- and well the cost of mpg she thought was offset by the relatively low AP a in our current car we have only done just over 12k miles over 3 years.
When we took the car for a couple of test drives the front seats were very comfortable and the google system easy to use. She weighed up the positives and negatives and thought let’s stick with the original plan.

ive watched all the YouTube reviews and there is no denying the car is fabulous apart from below par fuel efficiency.  This is one of the latest ones I watched

I know someone who cancelled their Motability car less than 1 month after having it. The car had done less than 500 miles. They called motability customer service and explained why it was not fit for purpose and Motability agreed for it to be returned. They got their AP returned (done on a pro rata basis I believe). Any additional extras you might have added, will not be refunded. Motability only allow a couple of cancellations every 3 years so make sure your next car meets your requirements. All the best,
