Honda E. In Summer getting 140-150 miles on a full charge – more than quoted 137 WLTP. This winter has been atrocious on mileage – getting approx 75 miles max on a full charge. We have to keep heating on else car steams up, that kills the mileage.
Lease officially ends next month and we need something with a much larger range as needs have outgrown a city car.
Wow. That’s not good at all @crippleddad I think you have strong grounds for an early cancellation- it will cost you £250 but you will get your pro rata AP payment back to then help fund your next car.
Just came back from visiting a friend who recommended the Volvo to us. They have had multiple Volvos over the years and currently have a xc60 phev. He just mentioned the driving experience @crippleddad and said we would love it especially on motorways.
Intrigued on the issues you’ve had with the EX30. Can you share more please? Thanks. Are you thinking of an early return as you mentioned it’s ’borderline dangerous’ ? Anything to do with all the mad lane assist tech they have?
@kezo – we did have the Qashqai Epower on the shortlist and did take it on a test drive but my wife preferred the drive experience of the Volvo.
Whilst we were waiting for the test drive, we took a good look around a Epower Qashqai model they had in the showroom which had a piece of door trim missing in what was at the time a brand new delivery mileage showroom car! I must look into the euro ncap of the Honda – thanks for your reply. Appreciated.Just had a word with my wife and we are going to test drive a Honda HRV. It’s back on the scheme at £999 AP, down from £1,999 when it was on last in q3. Real mpg according to honest John, it averages 57.9mpg. That’s a big difference to the Volvo.
We still haven’t had confirmation of the exact order with spec we have chosen from our Volvo dealership despite asking a couple of times. We did check with Motability and they cannot help.
Is the MPG really as bad as I’ve read online?
according to Honest John, the B4 averages 37.7mpg

It is on the low side when compared to some of the competitors but we figured the safety side that Volvo offers outweighs the mediocre mileage.
Be good to hear thoughts from owners here though..
Volvo V60 looks good if anyone needs a big estate.
or alternatively the Subaru Forester / Outback. Both exactly the AP as the v60 at £3,999
Honda HR-V 1.5 eHEV Advance 5dr CVT is back on the scheme at a £999. Q3 it was £1,999, so represents great value for a fuel efficient hybrid.
If AP’s go towards £2000 we’ll just buy a new Tesla VAT free and keep it 7 years.
I didn’t realise you can buy a car privately vat free? This pups be a great option in the future
I can’t answer the question on preheating but maybe a current owner can? @injector ?
The 360 camera is a £545 add-on option, which we have ordered as it’s very good.
@Solent60 spot on. This looks like such a great car and good on Honda for bringing back a coupe and the Prelude name (though I wonder if it’s just a Civic underneath), at a time when the likes of the Capri have been turned into yet another anonymous SUV.
Very good point @phil. They used to use cut down version of car and driving videos. Anyway, the 120 has quite a high AP so i would have thought it won’t be on many people’s shortlist.
MotaClarity review here:
This is in our draft contract to be signed on deliver of our new car in Feb/Mar 2025.
”DURATION OF HIRE The Hire Term is for a minimum period of three years starting on the date of delivery of the Vehicle (the “Minimum Hire Term”), but continuing thereafter until either the expiry of a period of twenty four months following the Minimum Hire Term (the “Maximum Hire Term”) or the date on which this Agreement is terminated in accordance with the terms set out in the Contract Hire Terms and Conditions (Ref T&Cs – 09/24)(the “Conditions”), whichever is the earlier.”
If the car is good, we would I think prefer to extend by a couple of years to defer a cost of AP. Our current car had £0 AP but is no longer suitable for our needs hence giving it back after 3 years.
There is an older thread on this.
What paper work will I need to order, if you don’t mind sharing the info..thx
I would suggest first logging onto the motability site and starting the process of ordering the new application. It will save you a lot of time at the dealership.
Our local Volvo dealer asked us proof of how we qualify for Motability (PIP/ DLA) and also driving licences for all the named drivers. A quick call with the Motability specialist at your local dealer I would advise to check and make sure that person is available to book your order.
Choosing colour was the most difficult for us. Look at which options you want beforehand on the Volvo website e.g. 360 camera, spare tyre, rubber mats etc to save you time.
Good luck.

XC40 Mild Hybrid Plus Dark 2.0 B4P Advance Payment: £1,499
XC40 Mild Hybrid Plus 2.0 B4P Black Edition
Advance Payment: £1,99925 plate cars will be released on March 1, 2025.
Lead times can be as much as 3 months.
when is best time to buy? Depending on your circumstances- the current AP is comparatively very attractive so we took advantage of ordering now.
Additionally if you are eligible and if so take advantage of the New Vehicle £750 payment which expires on 3 January 2025.
we ordered the 360 camera as a £545 factory option. After having seen it on a test drive, my wife loved it and wanted it.
Tinted windows I believe were offered by the dealer as as a local service but we decided against it.
We hopefully get our car in Feb. Can’t wait.
I am a big fan of Chris Harris and friends and this is their take on the new Jag.
December 3, 2024 at 9:53 pm in reply to: BYD APs are having a laugh EDIT: Also add Lexus to the list #294487Isn’t the £40k+ ‘luxury’ tax simply an additional rate of road tax (VED) for the first 5 years? If so, any inclusion of EVs won’t make the slightest bit of difference to the Motability scheme as all Motability cars are exempt anyway.
You are right @Glos Guy, however I wonder how much it will hit residual values. If I was in the market for a second hand car, paying £600 ish a year in road tax, I certainly would avoid.
My personal car – outside of the Motability scheme – I’m currently paying £20 road tax a year! 😀Drove 23 miles today in the Honda E and averaged 4.6kw/h – it was at 4.8 and tailed off in a short journey I made later in the day. It has been down to 2.8 when the cold snap hit.
Keeping heating off made a lot of difference today. Strangely enough I don’t think the heated seats makes a big impact at all. Given the tech in this little car, they really should have put a heat pump.
Goes back in Feb and will certainly miss how easy and manoeuvrable this little car is in London.
Congrats on making a decision and placing an order soul777, hopefully all goes well.. The situation Glos guy has listed I think might have happened to me. Waited almost 9 months after being told longest and at the worst would be 3.🙄 At the time we had no transport due to our car written off while parked up unattended. We resorted to hiring when needed to stay mobile, I even stood across the road and phoned the dealer one time, saw him look at the phone and put through to another lady who stated my sales man wasn’t in that day 😆🤣, what a surprise that was as I entered the showroom still listening to her with the salesman still seated, makes me smile even now.. Never ever had any updates, build slot info, delivery time, first time order what a nightmare, I’m now onto the 2nd mot, 5 year extension and they don’t stop contacting to place an order to get it back lol. Anyway great car I’m loving my xc40, and tbh I think I just had a rough time of it…
thanks for your reply @ajn . Sounds like you’ve at least had a good experience with the car.
I remember when I was a teenager and my dad was totally ignored in a Mercedes showroom – he went out and bought an E30 BMW 325i convertible- great to have happened in hindsight as my brother still has that car. I don’t understand the attitude of some people. It’s life I guess. Is another XC40 on your shortlist or do you fancy a change? It was a friend of ours who has had numerous Volvos persuade us to get this – our first Vovo ever. I have to say, the current AP, helped that decision – lol.
Yes, fingers crossed it goes well and we get the car as planned in Feb. All the best.
It looks like a new car for Lady penelope !
Spot on @joss, “copy nothing”? Certainly looks like some inspiration from Thunderbirds.
This is a very good analysis on the new Jaaaaggg by one of the best motoring journalists on the planet.
Thank you @Glos Guy. Most helpful. 🙏🏽
