There are many questions members have about the motability scheme such as :-

      Can I extend my lease?

Can I change my car before my contract is up and if so will it cost me anything?

How much is the GCB and will I get it if I have a few scratches?

What happens if I lose PIP?

If you have any questions about motability, then this is the place to come. We have many knowledgeable members only to willing to give advice. Many of our members have been on the scheme for decades and know virtually everything there is to know about the scheme.

You could also ring or contact on FB, Hyundai customer care and ask when the fix will be rolled out and whether there is any problems with it, to put your mind at rest.

Over the years there have been numerus issues on some of their models that have been well documented in the motoring press, by the main dealers, and across the net. Yet, Hyundai CS have always denied an issue exists. Their staff don’t all acknowledge the current GPF issue on the Tucson either. Speaking with a few Hyundai dealers, they do confirm it is a significant issue. So, although only a handful of people are posting about it, there are many more not engaging on the net.

Ive never had a problem and have always found their CS honest and helpful. When I had my first and only (P)PF warning light, CS advised they were aware of it and releasing a software update. This was from what I understand their first update that didn’t work as expected. I have since read a new update was was announced in February this year, we will see.

When the light first came on I tried to clear it as I would DPF which didn’t work. I have since increased the amount of deacceleration on both long and short journey’s and Ive never had the problem again. I’m no slouch at driving whether that makes a difference who knows.

Similar to the problems when DPF’s first came out, it took manufacturers time to come out with appropiate software, a similar scenario will apply to PPF only as with DPF’s some manufacturers are better than others getting problems sorted. I recall similar problems with the PPF and were given similar advice to ignore the dash light lol.

If your order was placed prior to the vehicle being removed from the scheme, your order still stands however its always worth clarifying with your supplying dealer 🙂

I’m just after some advice please ?.

I purchased a mobility scooter independently from Motability.

Would I be able to end my lease early, so I can purchase a vehicle through Motability so I can get a hoist fitted?

Or would it be advisable to wait until my Vehicle is due for renewal?

                I currently have a 3 door Mini.

I highly doubt Motability will let you end your lease early, and let you “purchase”? a vehicle from them.

However if you are refering to terminating your current lease because its no lnger suitable and taking out a new lease on a more suitable vehicle, with a hoist fitted, this would likely be possible!

Hi, I’ve been put onto the scheme for the first time and am not quite sure how it all works so if I could ask a few questions, it’d be very helpful.

I’m profoundly deaf so I can’t call Motability and the case manager for the grants team assigned to my case won’t respond to emails, which is fine as the cars she suggested are not a good fit.

The priority for me is my hearing dog for the deaf being able to get in and out of the car with no issues and have enough space to be comfortable in the boot. As my partner dog is getting older, I’m trying to think of her needs as time goes on. I may also be given the opportunity to have another hearing dog when my partner retires and I adopt her which means 2 dogs to transport.

I’ve been to the local Ford dealership twice now and gotten conflicting information from different sales people. I spoke to the Motability manager by email but he’s not gotten back to me for more than a week. Reason I went to Ford was due to it being the closest location but I’m happy to travel further.

I don’t like estates so I’m looking at the Focus hatchback and the Kuga.

The salesperson yesterday said if I went for extra options, I get a discount on them. Which was a surprise to me as I assumed I had to pay for anything extra? If this is true, does that mean Motability covers the remainder of the cost of added options? Is there a chance that Motability will say “no, that’s not necessary, we won’t pay for that”?

Do added options made available and payment costs vary between dealerships and manufacturers? Or is it more of a thing between Motability and the dealership itself? Am I required to talk to Motability to get their approval for them?

I’m not sure of what is what and the sales people didn’t give me much confidence. First one said the Kuga hybrid was a FHEV that ran on diesel (eh?!). Second one yesterday said the FHEV option was fully electric and required plugging in, I asked if he was sure and he said yes, that I had made a mistake.

Sorry for length of post but help with understanding the added options would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi @MissingSound7  – I will try to answer what I can.

Motabilty inc the charity in general don’t like to respond to emails for whateve reason which is ironic considering you are death. Deaf. Equally strange I don’t believe you contact them by minicom either, although with their insurance provider you can! Have you a close family member or friend, who would be willing to act as your appointee? An appointee would bable to speak to Motability on your behalf.

With regards to dealers, some will just ignore you purely because your a Motability customer. Equally some salesmen/women have big noses!

Its also unlikely the grants team will pay for optional extras fitted by factory. The Advance ayments your see advertised on Motability are for the specification of a standard car depending on the trim you choose i.e a Ford Vignale will have a higher specification than the ST line. Any factry options are down to you however if you chose a higher spec car its unlikely you will need  to pay for any of these options. Equally you should not let a dealer force you into having anything you don’t wan’t or will be of no use.

Are you after a SUV Full hybrid or Plug in Hybrid?

Any more question please feel free to ask 🙂

                        Hi Kezo,

                        Thanks for that.

I don’t have anyone to make the call(s) for me as we moved recently. Advocacy services are stretched so it’s difficult to communicate.

Motability said they’d communicate by email considering circumstances but it means my having to call them using Relay, which is a nightmare to use, just to get them to look for the email.

I’m not expecting much from them or the grants team.

Salesperson yesterday said about the paint and options that if it was a certain amount (£1,600 for example), I’d only need to contribute £400 towards that.

Trying to establish what the guidelines are or if yesterday the salesperson was mistaken.

Your question about either a full hybrid or plug in hybrid? It’s the former as I don’t have the means to plug in and charge where I live. I’d be ok with petrol for now if I was happy with the car and the only petrol I can see I’d like is the BMW 118i but would need to check the boot space.

May have to consider waiting for the next quarter to see if anything has the correct options included with the car itself.

                        Thanks again.

The Kuga is petrol or petrol hybrids.

Motability allow  for plain or metallic paint within the advance payment but, exlude manufacturerspecial colours. For example the Kuga metallics are £600, should you wish to go for lucid red which is £850 because its a  special colour you have to pay the difference ontop of the advance payment i.e £850-£600=£250 payable by you.

It is dealer dependant should they wish you a percentage discount on optional extra’s. Some dealers such as Renault allow you to choose any colour FOC.

Other optional extra’s above the base trim are also your responsibilty ontop of the advance payment. For example should you choose a vehicle without heated seats but, you order them as a factory option, it is your respnsibility to pay for these ontop of any advance payment. Again it up to individual dealer discretion whether or not they want to offer a discount. and this varies between dealerships.

Some dealers also have offers where they will contribute to the advance payment or offer cashback but, again this is up to the individual dealer.

When you choose your first vehicle Motability will award you £750 new vehicle contribution. You can either take this as cash in the bank or discounted off the advance payment. Please beaware some dealers make this sound like they are offering you a discount. They are not.

Edit! Its also worth baring in mind some vehicles take far long to get delivered than others, so its always worth asking

Any further questions please ask 🙂

It may be worth looking here at dealer offers. I’m sure @BigDave and guys will offer their help!

I’d be willing to try find the money for the options if they’d be beneficial, just wanted clarification on how it worked, so thanks for that. Basically it’d be for practical purposes with the deafness, such as front and rear sensors displayed on the dash, rear camera, status of car information on display. Essentially assistance packs such as parking or blind spot detection.

Need to work out what works better financially between a Focus and Kuga that provides the kit I need.

Grants team suggested a Vauxhall Crossland, KIA Stonic and a Renault Captur for nil up front and then closed the case. All these cars have narrower boot entries and are quite high up. Which combined with the rear sticking up and in at an angle, leaves me concerned about my partner dog entering and exiting the boot and catching her legs on rear frame.

Did ask about the expected times for build slots and was told 3 months. Don’t know if he was telling the truth or not but I’m already keeping an eye on BigDave’s deals and offers thread to see what’s out there.

                            Thanks again.

You would beable to choose your own vehicle! When you speak to Motability regards an early temination because you need an hoist, they might suggest you could have hoist fitted to your current car but, would be more expensive that way. If you say something along the line of I need a hoist but, my current vehicles boot wouldn’t be big enough for a wheelchair and shopping bla bla and would like an early termination, the hoist would be heavily discounted or even free on a new vehicle rather than if you were to retrofit ?

You would get a pro rata refund of the AP, order and wait for you new car to arrive, which may have a higher AP so swings and roundabouts really!

Yes the Kuga has a petrol engine!

Grants team will always offer a car they think is suitable but, not neccessarily sutable for you. The Crossland  and Stonic boot is tiny – you should have said you had a great Dane lol.

Most mid to upper spec cars should have everthing you need without thinking of options.  The 1.1 lite MG ZS Excusive is a small SUV and has bigger boot than the Crossland at just under 450 litres with a cheap AP. However I don’t know what your willing to put down.

Have a look here, I find their site better than Motability’s when searching for a car, plus they have video reviews and show boot space 🙂

Hi my wife is on Higher PIP but I was an essential car user for work so we couldn’t use motability. I’ve now taken early retirement as a her carer and will need to replace our 14 year old car soon. Looking to use the scheme but just want to check how much I will be able to use the car on my own.

For example going to an event on my own but using the car instead of public transport so that I can be there and back (and on call) more quickly will still be for her benefit in our view. Is that correct?

It’s rare to be honest but if I do get to go out it needs to be a practical solution being able to use a motability car if we have one.

                                    Thanks for any help

As long as the large majority of the time you are using it for your wifes benifit there shouldn’t be a problem. Even when you were working it would have been plausable to have a Motability car because, your income was of a benifit for your wife such as paying bills so she can remain in your home. When you sit back and think about it, most of what you do has an inconspicuous benifit of some kind.

For example – “x” travels to visit their elderly parents “Y” who claims the award is not suitable to come because “Z” is too ill, Z’s wife buys gifts for “Y” so X’s visit to their parents was a benift to “Y” who claims the award!

                                        Hi

I have got just ordered my first car and I have only put my name down for insurance. When i have really bad days I dont have the ability to drive and this can last for a few days to a week. Im aware that you can go into the motability app and add someone and apparently the process is quite simple, but my concern is how soon does the person get added, can it be same day? does any paperwork get sent to them and do they have to sign anything. I only need it on occasions and think only for 1 day if i did need it. Has anyone had to ever do this?

my dealership is nearly an hour away and the service is shocking, i don’t want to go there for it]

                                          cheers

Hi I have got just ordered my first car and I have only put my name down for insurance.

Hi Mm7, I’d like to think you would get an email notification or an in app notification of some form and to act as proof you have indeed added that person! However not 100% sure to be honest now DLM have taken over 🙂

You do not have to go to the dealer you got your car from and can choose one more local 🙂

                                                  Hi,

Hope it’s ok to ask but could somebody please point me to a thread that has a list of Motability dealerships they’d recommend by location? Using the Motability website, options are limited where I am. 2 dealerships I’ve visited are listed as on the scheme but when visited, told me they’re coming off it in November and no longer take orders.

Due to deafness, I’m unable to call dealerships to check status and cars available and Google isn’t much help.

I’m in the Kent, Dover/Thanet area and willing to travel a fair way.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi Missingsound7, sorry to hear of your stuggles in finding a good dealership local. Not that many frequent this thread, so  I think you should open your question to the whole forum and may be better starting a new thread “List of Mobility dealerships by location (Kent Dover)” and copy nd paste your reply into that thread 🙂

I’m in Thanet. I’ve had two good experiences with Invicta Ford here and one with the Vauxhall dealer. Hope this helps.

Thanks Confusicated. The Invicta Ford in Ashford I visited said that the closest Ford dealership near me still taking orders was Perrys at Whitfield, nowhere else. I asked about the Thanet one and she said not for much longer. Either she was mistaken or was trying to get me out.

                                                        Thanks Kezo.
