BrydoThere are many questions members have about the motability scheme such as :-
Can I extend my lease?
Can I change my car before my contract is up and if so will it cost me anything?
How much is the GCB and will I get it if I have a few scratches?
What happens if I lose PIP?
If you have any questions about motability, then this is the place to come. We have many knowledgeable members only to willing to give advice. Many of our members have been on the scheme for decades and know virtually everything there is to know about the scheme.

Kyle, That’s a superb car and it looks really eye catching. Have you been given an approximate build and delivery date, or is it a stock car?
July 21, 2023 at 12:42 pm #227453
KylePOPS – They had a few cars in stock with the same spec in different colours – so car will be available to collect in 2 weeks – so ordered 19/7/23 and collection date is 1/8/23 – so really pleased – Sales team at Mazda are not the best unfortunately as they wouldn’t give me any discounts etc – not even mats. But Car I want is available and as I only do about 1ok a year – looking to keep for 5 years – so AP is not to bad over the 5 years.

Ju juTest drove and ordered the Mazda cx60 Humura Con/Pac Pan roof. £250 off cash back in free Soul red crystal. Nice and powerful and smooth even in ev mode, Sports mode must be one of the quickest cars on the scheme. Rear leg room not the best in class, but very roomy up front, Boot space excellent enough room for scooter bikes and dog. Car felt not to large when driving round town, Had previously ordered Renault e tech but cancelled because of lack of space, and range anxiety. Burrows York managed to sauce a car delivery expected first week in september.

July 26, 2023 at 3:54 pm #228063I have just taken delivery of a new car through the Motability Scheme. I have however kept my old car that I received free Road Tax on. Am I still entitled to get this free road tax or do I have to pay for it when it is due for renewal. I get the enhanced rate of the mobity component of my PIP.

You are only allowed free road tax on one vehicle. If you old car has an higher tax bracket you can tell Motability you wish to pay for the RFL on your new car and apply the free ax to your old car at the post office by requesting a V10 form.

MoeHi, my dad is eligible for a motability car and I’m the only one in our household who has a license. I work 3 days a week and was wondering if I would be allowed to use the car to drive to work. The motability scheme states that the car must be used for the benefit of the disabled person, in this case I am the only one working and my income goes directly to providing for the my dad and the household. I’m asking this because my current car is very small so it’s a struggle to get my dad in and out of the car and there’s no space for a wheelchair so I want to know if I’ll need to hold onto my current car for work and then also get a bigger car through motability for my dad.

The vehicle should always be used for the benefit of the disabled person as you know. However if you are a named driver and you are supporting the Motability customer by working and providing an income for the household then that should be ok. For peace of mind it’s worth a call to Motability and run it past them first 🙂

JohnI used to work, and I used my wife’s motability car to travel to and from work (about a 5 mile round trip), I did phone motability before we joined the scheme (over 25 years ago so the only way for contact back then) and they said it was fine because my income did/was a benifit for her. The only thing they asked was that the car was always available for her, even when I’m at work , and I was working flexi time, so it wasn’t a problem if I had to leave work. Retired now so no issue, but I have never had an issue with motability not allowing it. But as always good contact with motability is a must, they are a friendly bunch

MoeThank you both Kezo and John for your replies, I really appreciate it. I will definitely make sure to make a call to the Motability team.

The answer to your question is on the insurance certificate. Names of the insured driver(s) and what uses are covered, social, domestic and commuting to a permanent place of work. As long as it states that you are covered.
If I seem a little strange, that's because I am.

Henry1. Will the eletric charger installation still be going after Sept 30th?
2. When it says suitable for under 25 what does it mean? There are some cars that go when you select it.
3. What is the excess on insurance?
4. Once you sign up, are they cancellable/changable?Thanks in advance for any help
August 9, 2023 at 2:54 pm #229600What is the procedure for returning a car back to Motability ‘if’ it suffers from any issues? I ask as I have an order in for a Tucson 1.6 which – like its counterpart – the Sportage are know to have GPF issues. To resolve this issue either means driving for a specific period in a certain method on clear roads whilst using a significant amount of petrol, or keep returning to the dealer for a forced regen. Neither of these two options are compatible with my disability. I was hoping Hyundai may have resolved the issue before I collected the car.

I doubt Motability have a formal procedure in such a case. It is more likely they look at each case on merit.
However, what they may do in the case of repeated faults is terminate your lease. That potentially could leave you without a vehicle.
As you already know you are potentially walking into problems with the Tucson, wouldn’t you be better cancelling the order and ordering something without such an inherent and seemingly recurring fault?
August 9, 2023 at 3:45 pm #229605wouldn’t you be better cancelling the order and ordering something without such an inherent and seemingly recurring fault?
As the reports started in 2021, I’d hoped by end of 2023 they would have resolved the issue. Plus I still have a 5 month wait minimum to see how it pans out.
I can only imagine if the issue is still ongoing then it surely cannot affect a significant amount of owners or it would be a media issue for private buyers ?

Are you sure this is even a fault? My husband had several diesel cars with particulate filters and what you describe was normal behaviour, when the car was used for short journeys. If (when) the filter got full one had to keep driving until it burned off the particles, or as you say return it to the dealer to get it sorted.

Yes, it’s been acknowledged by Hyundai and Kia as an issue.

Hyundai/Kia are aware of the issue and have indeed tried to remedy it with a software update without sucess and are now looking into another fix – So yes its a well known fault with the 1.6TDGI engine.
If you look at the Sportage thread on her, you will see the fault crops up on more than one occasion. There are also reports of dealerships charging for a forced regen on the 2nd or attemp the PPF needs to be cleared. If its any consolation I have a Tuscon Ultimate ICE and have only had the problem a couple of times whic I have been able to clear myself.
I would speak to Motability before taking delivery and asking if you are able to return should you encounter proplems or cancelling the order and look elsewhere, though this would put you at the back of any Q.

RichjackdanRegarding the Tucson.
I am about to order the petrol manual ultimate.
am I walking into a scenario where I have constant issues?? I probably drive about 6 miles each day…. 50 Mike round trip to hospital each fortnight.

There are reports of another software update to fix the problem however, I’m not certain if its the original fix which didn’t work that has resurfaced this year or Hyundai/Kia have come out with another fix. I drive 500+ miles every three weeks which seems to kept the bigger problem away. If you look at the number of 2022 Tuscons ans Sportages sld, it outstrips the number of complaints, if that means anything. Having the manual it is also easier to control what gear your in and to keep the revs up if needed and deaccelerate often which is what keeps it clean from the start.
The car itself is very nice and has alot of features, if not a bit thirsty.

RichjackdanThanks Kezo.
Probably showing my ignorance here but I’ve had a Petrol Peugeot 3008 since 2020.
Would I be right in saying this would also have a Gpf…. Do all petrol cars now have one? If so, I E never had any issues with mine, would this be a good indicator as to whether my driving would cause an issue with the Tucson?

EU6c 2018, so I would say your 3008 has one and every other car after this date.
Is it because of your driving you have not had an issue, that I don’t know how you drive but, when I looked through various forums there were more reports of Automaics than manuals having the issue.
From what Ive read a previously posted Hyundai are rolling out a fix announced earlier this year. So one would expect new cars rolling of the production line will already have this fix. Mine went in for a service late March and was told it had a software update and the car does seem a bit more lively. I was in a rush so never asked what the update was for.
You could also ring or contact on FB, Hyundai customer care and ask when the fix will be rolled out and whether there is any problems with it, to put your mind at rest.

Over the years there have been numerus issues on some of their models that have been well documented in the motoring press, by the main dealers, and across the net. Yet, Hyundai CS have always denied an issue exists. Their staff don’t all acknowledge the current GPF issue on the Tucson either.
Speaking with a few Hyundai dealers, they do confirm it is a significant issue. So, although only a handful of people are posting about it, there are many more not engaging on the net.
