BrydoThere are many questions members have about the motability scheme such as :-
Can I extend my lease?
Can I change my car before my contract is up and if so will it cost me anything?
How much is the GCB and will I get it if I have a few scratches?
What happens if I lose PIP?
If you have any questions about motability, then this is the place to come. We have many knowledgeable members only to willing to give advice. Many of our members have been on the scheme for decades and know virtually everything there is to know about the scheme.

They may be correct. 6 months agho, when Invicta collected my car for MOT, they said they might not be traditional dealers for much longer as Ford, along with some other makers, are doing away with much of their dealer networks.
They had no further details for me then.
Quite how we see/test drive cars under the new model is yet to be revealed.

The Invicta Ford in Ashford I visited said that the closest Ford dealership near me still taking orders was Perrys at Whitfield, nowhere else. I asked about the Thanet one and she said not for much longer. Either she was mistaken or was trying to get me out. Thanks Kezo.
Maybe email Motability asking the question and your experience of your recent visit!
Is this link useful?
September 11, 2023 at 8:19 pm #233245That makes a bit more sense as when I spoke to the lady at Ashford Invicta Ford and showed her the Motability page listing it as a location, she shrugged her shoulders and said: “things changed”.
Wonder if Motability would eventually switch to a different way of providing cars? Like a broad range of cars under the Motability banner; you show up and look at all different models of varying manufacturers. Because in the short period of time I’ve been eligible, the dealerships just aren’t that interested in engaging. Maybe I’ve not yet found the right place but it’s more difficult than I initially expected.
September 11, 2023 at 8:24 pm #233246Thanks Kezo. I used that app to get to the one I mentioned. Now the Invicta Ford dealerships are not listed so obviously they’ve come off the scheme.
As for emailing Motability, not having much luck in opening up a dialogue with them through email.

Manufacturers are still struggling or so they say, it also seems some Manufacturers “new” vehicles are taking longer to come through. It wasn’t long ago where dealerships were prioitising retail customers because what few vehicles were comming through they could easily sell. Leasing companies including Motability were put at the back of the queue and I guess there is some of this still going on. Equally when vehicles are plentiful leasing companies will once again be Manufacturers largest market and AP’s may start to come down hopefully, which I expect to see reductions in q4. I also believe Motability should have competition and perhaps they would work harder to keep its customers and pay the CEO less lol.
At no fault of your own, it is possibly the worse time to join the scheme however, don’t give up I’m sure you will find something maybe even one in stock! Broadning your search area maybe in the next countie/s may bring something. Look in the dealer offers thread as some dealers may have stock to go or be available soon, even AP contributions. Its also worth asking local dealers if they will match offers some do, some don’t. Also shop for a car in the last week of a month, as dealers may need to meet their targets. !st of Septembers new registrations wouldn’t have helped either. You could search places like Autotrader to see if there is any vehicles you like in stock, then email and enquire about it and once you receivea reply email again and ask if they would let you have it on the Motability scheme. Never say upfront you are from Motability. Finally some manufacturers and/or models have longer lead times than others, so it may be wise to broaden your search criteria with differnt manufacturers similar models 🙂
Are you looking at any paticular car, size, auto or manual?

Hi Kezo,
It needs to be an auto, enough room for my assistance dog, rear camera, parking sensors front and rear and have a good infotainment system to let me know of any issues with car itself due to inability to hear problems. Would like to move away from a diesel if possible, willing to consider hybrids but can’t do full electric. Not a fan of crossovers or many big SUVs.
Only cars I can find that may be suitable are:
BMW 118i hatchback has enough boot space and is a solid car but unsure of costs involving extras (rear camera, sensors, etc).
Ford Focus has a bigger boot and the tech but unsure the 1.0 has enough power considering I’m 6’1, 220lbs and have to transport a dog(s). Not sure auto gearbox is good from accounts.
Ford Kuga FHEV is final option just not a big fan of SUVs in general.
September 12, 2023 at 2:01 pm #233315dont know if its big enough but i can reccomend the nissan juke hybrid. getting nearly 60mpg on a 20mile return commute on rural roads. if bigger is needed the quashqai epower is good but waiting time is getting long.

Thanks Mitch. Problem with the Juke is that like other small crossovers, the rear is sort of at an angle. With the dog, getting in and out safely and without her back legs catching the door frame is something I have to take into account.
Will take a closer look at the Qashqai epower though, thanks.

DaveAnyone know if a dealer is legitmately allowed to sign the customer registration document on behalf of a Motability customer – or do they have to ?
September 15, 2023 at 11:29 am #233564Just a small question if I may.
Does anyone have any practical advice on Day to Day use of a Ford Puma with a hoist for a mobility scooter ?
I have been in touch with an installer and there is a fitting kit for this vehicle.

Sorry I don’t have any info on that car but most cars are capable of having a hoist fitted but I find the bigger problem is if the scooter will fit in the car and if you need the back seats for passengers or is it OK to fold them down.

I think it’s semi academic, you’d need two chargers that are capable of load balancing, to start with, and I believe if you wanted two to charge at the same time at 7kW each, you’d probably need a 3 phase supply

You only need one. Unless you’re doing huge miles in one car it’s highly unlikely you’ll be charging every night, so one car charges one might, the other another night.
It might be worth the person who gets the second EV asking about the discount card, then you get home charging and discounts on certain public chargers.

You can indeed have 2 chargers of a single phase supply, infact you can daisy chain up to 3 Easee One chargers off the same circuit. The only negative as such is load balancing would have to be taken into account – so with 2 vehicles charging at the same time, each charger will be limited to 3.6kW each.

September 28, 2023 at 10:52 am #234958I currently have my own car registered in my name that is in the tax-exempt class. Next week, I pick up my Motability car.
I assume the minute I collect my Motability car my personal car will have to be changed back to a private class, and I will have to pay tax from that point on.
In which case, if I drive my car to the dealer 30 miles away to collect the Motability car, and my partner drives our personal car back home, I assume she will be driving an untaxed vehicle? Is there any cross over allowed to enable this to happen?

The change to the taxation class of your private vehicle has to be initiated by you. It doesn’t happen automatically. Simply collect your new car and when you are back home commence the procedure to remove the exemption from your private vehicle. Alternatively, if it’s worrying you, as tax runs in whole months, you could commence the removal of the exemption from your current car on 1st October.

One further question if I may.
The new car comes with breakdown cover, but the car is also supported by Motability’s ‘RAC Assist’. I assume that the breakdown cover which comes with the new car is trumped by RAC assist?

In all honesty, I’m not sure, but I’d think you could use either. I’d probably call the Motability one first just in case you need a courtesy car.
October 1, 2023 at 9:32 pm #235815We’re meant to be picking a car up on Wednesday at an AP price of £1899. Our £750 + they pay rest. It’s now been reduced to £299 AP.
Anything we can do about the price change even though the application has been put in??
It’s our first car with Motability.

You might have left it a bit late, but have you asked the dealer about this ? Normallly, it’s a paper exercise at the dealers to reorder the car at the reduced AP. However. You might have left it a little late. Get intouch with your dealer ASAP to see if it can still be done.
