Opposite for me, i used to drive like the vicar in the ICE car. Had really calmed down over the years and would rather cruise in a little luxury than throw it into corners, but all that changed when i got the EV.

Now i drive like Lewis Hamilton lol, but safely of course. the acceleration and handling is just addictive and i thought it would have worn off before now but nope. I used to dread driving sometimes as it was so dull but now i take every opportunity i can to get behind the wheel and enjoy myself. The stereo sounds awesome as well so thats a cherry on my cake too.

    @Chub

Using the charger could not be any easier, just plug in and turn the key a quarter turn to the right and away you go. Dont forget to turn the key back once you have finished, this will stop anyone getting free electricity while your out. If like me you switch to Octopus energy or similar provider / tarriff just schedule the car to charge during the cheaper rates, it`s almost plug and go really.

I would, VW is a nicer more modern car if you ask me. And that is just my opinion nothing wrong with the beemer just getting on a bit and looks a little bland, that said the VW isnt really exciting to look at but i`d have it from the two choices.

I`m afraid they stick by that rule as well, it was the first thing they asked me years and years ago when i first got my cherished plate. They said it was to stop other people personalising the car, so the plate has to refer to the owner in a specific and personal way. Just explain to them exactly what the plate means and why you want it on the car.

Glad your enjoying the addiction lol, i too top up when i see the words FREE, i mean imagine driving down the road in an ICE and seeing cans of petrol at the side of the road lol.

In the soul i turned the auto regen off as it became a bind after a while, instead i set the driver modes up individually, ECO i left as is, NORMAL i set the aircon and heat settings the same as ECO but set regen to 2 and in SPORT again set the heat and air con to eco but the regen to 3. Now i just use the drive mode button to flick between depending on the driving situation, you can always override using the paddles if needed.

I agree with the bad points you list, very similar with the Soul. I bought some really good quality mats from a guy in Sheffield who makes them to measure, they are fantastic and a perfect fit. And yes the lane keep assist is a pain in the @***

Well done on making the switch, car looks very nice in that colour. Once you get your head used to battery power rather than combustion power it all becomes second nature. I love my Soul and will never go back to a fossil fuel car ever again now, just watch the speed as its very easy to take your eye off the ball and get a ticket lol.

When i test drove my soul the same thing happened, they are not allowed in the car with you so they have a set route and you follow the salesman in another car. It`s all down to social distance guidelines unfortunately. I did ask why i could not just drive off for a few hours then bring it back but he said head office had forbidden it due to some cars been stolen, guess we just have to adapt like everyone else. I did however speak to motability and they said due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic if for any reason i was not happy with the car they would consider changing it, cant say fairer than that, however im over the moon with it so its not really an issue

The soul is a steal at 1999, don’t think you will find a better EV with 300m range for 2k and its a cracking car to drive, agreed the looks are not to everyone’s taste but the quality inside makes up for that in my book.

From what the electrician said to me you only need the isolation switch fitting if you have the 100 amp fuse, the 60 amp is fine for the charger and does not require an upgrade to 100 or the isolation switch. But what confused me was his statement about my fuse box, he told me as i have modern RCD fuses the EV fuse cannot be fitted to the existing unit which is why the new fuse box containing the RCD for the EV was fit in the cupboard next to mine. My thought was they would just add another fuse to my existing consumer unit, the one they wanted to fit outside was huge and had to be mounted below the white electric box which would have looked a right eye sore on the drive so i said no way.

Thanks everyone, could not believe how long it took. Firstly i had to have an isolation switch fitted in the outside electric box because i have a 100 amp fuse, this delayed the installation by 2 weeks. Then on the day of installation the electrician said he could not fit the connection to my current fuse box so he had to fit a secondary unit in the kitchen alongside my own, luckily this is in a cupboard so its out of site but he wanted to fit an external one which was huge and would have looked stupid on the side of the house but her indoors was having none of that lol. I have attached pictures of the additions just so anyone expecting an installation knows what to expect.

don`t let the issue burden you anymore, seriously just get in touch with Motability they are fantastic. I have cancelled 2 vehicles early in the lease , one of them after 9 months for far less than the issues you have.

    Just give them a call

I`m so glad i jumped in when i did, i love my Soul and will never go back to a ICE car ever again. Almost 2 months in and once adjusted i have no range anxiety or any other worries at all, in fact i just love driving all over again.

Just watch that right foot, that instant injection of power is more addictive than a class A drug.

bland looks, shocking software. Think ill stick with my soul, good old fashioned buttons, an interior and software that shine above the rest and a good range to boot not to mention a few ready`s saved in the bank.

Which car are you awaiting ??

App wise i have zap-map, Plugshare, Pod-Point and Engie installed as well as Uvo which is the KIA software so i can control the car remotely

Other than that i have followed the advice from gothitjulie which has made the transition a breeze really and now i simply love driving again.

You can always use the granny charger like i have, been waiting for the wall charger fitting now since November 2020 and its still on going. BP are an absolute joke and place hurdles in the way every time an issue is resolved, almost like they dont want to install them.

I charge mine when it gets to 50% and it takes just over night to take it back to 100% so you could do this at your partners no problems as it connects to a normal 13amp plug socket.

Smart motorways were only ever designed to save money, a cheap way to get a fourth lane without building one. There has been little or no regard to safety taken into consideration when designing them or it would have been thrown out at the drawing board. To remove the safety lane on road where you have 3 lanes of traffic travelling at 70mph is insanity and i think the government and the highways agency realise that now albeit a little late for some poor unfortunate people and their families, lets just hope they do something more constructive than a disco re mix to solve the issue.

I really hope so, where i live there is quite a busy road runs past my house and the sound of diesel engines shattering the silence on a nice summer evening is awful, so thats the biggest thing im looking forward to is a quieter environment as well as a cleaner one.

Bladdy hell, 6k AP. I suppose if it fits your needs then the AP may be worth it, certainly a good enough spec if you need a people mover.
