@Rene unfortunately I found out the wrong way as I kerbed the front right tyre. Couldnβt believe it itβs something I never do. I was doing a three point turn at my daughters house, a manoeuvre Iβve done hundreds of times but the first time in the Ioniq 6 and bash clobbered it ππππ
@BrydoΒ easy done cause it’s such a long car, I always turn the cameras on to make sure I stay well away from any kerbs. It will warn you if near an object but I’m not sure how high that object has to be before it sees it?With the cameras on you can press the small car symbol on the left of the screen to change the view, you can have just the side cameras on looking at the wheels when parallel parking.
@Brydo I’ve had mines 13 months and anything around 4 or just over is good, it’ll maybe be closer to 3.5 or just under over winter.
We done over 2k going Glasgow to Cornwall, Swansea, up through Wales to Llandudno and home over 10 days and averaged 4 just touring, I also get about 4 as a norm just doing the daily stuff.
I’ve just got back at 1am from 868 miles to Farnborough and got 3.7 but I was myself so speeds were a bit higher than if wife had been there… maybe about 10% over limit keeping up with traffic πππ€«π
@KamKam no not been near the garage to go in but it’s well known about on the owners forum and one of the guys there has been in touch with Hyundai to make them aware of it.
Very unlikely it’ll require a new control unit as opposed to a software update as it only occurred after the latest update π€
Don’t know about the PHEVs but the Pro version of Bluelink is free for 3 years and Lite for 10,Β can’t remember the differences just now but I know it would be worth my while paying for Pro cause I use it alot.Β
August 9, 2025 at 1:14 pm in reply to: Just ordered a Hyundai Ioniq 6 Β£250 off and a free V2L charger. #310985@Brydo don’t know if you’re aware of this from previous cars but if you press and hold the Auto Hold button (maybe 5 seconds?) it’ll show on dash that brake cleaning has been activated, same to turn it off or it’ll self cancel. Handy if been out in the rain or a car wash cause if you park it up wet then the next time the brakes release it’s like a gun going off π£π―ππ
Paddles obviously are to adjust regen but just holding the left one applies max regen until you release it, right one turns on/off auto regen where the car decides how much is needed.
Very occasionally it’ll lose contact with the car which requires a hard reset to sort it, I’ve had it twice in 13 months.
To reset there’s a pinhole on the left of the dash above the camera button, press that and the infotainment screen will go black as it resets, only takes a minute and can be done while driving as the main screen isn’t affected.
Also the latest software update means the buttons for the passenger seat heating and ventilation often dissappear from the climate screen. A short press on the voice control button on the steering wheel and you can tell it to “activate passenger seat ventilation (or heating)” and include “to level 1” or whatever level you want or it’ll go to 3 itself. Usually after doing it by voice the buttons reappear for a short time. Hyundai are aware and hopefully will get it sorted soon π€β³οΈ π π€·ββοΈ

I’m 13 months into mine and done 26k, next week off down to Farnborough for the motor show.
Happy motoring π€π
July 30, 2025 at 7:40 pm in reply to: Questions about VAT exemption on new vehicle purchases. #310674I note you said buying a ‘used’ vehicle, I went to do this many years ago so things may have changed but it wasn’t as worthwhile as I’d hoped.
For example a new Β£50k vehicle that’s VAT exempt costs you Β£41,667 so saving Β£8,333 (approx!)
A used vehicle that costs Β£50k you only get VAT relief on the dealers profit margin. So if the dealer paid Β£48k for the vehicle then he clears Β£2k, he then deducts reasonable expenses… rates, wages etc so he ends up with a profit of Β£1k that he has to pay VAT on, which is about Β£833 That is how much you’d save.
Now mines was over a decade ago and all those figures are just estimates to give an example so obviously speak to an expert but as far as I remember your wife could buy the car and be the owner while you’d be the registered keeper (like Motability & us) or she could immediately sell it to you? You can only get VAT relief once every 3 years to prevent the previous abuse & fraud that occurred.
Good luck π€
Could someone explain to the non-initiated what difference the number plate makes?
Snob value to impress the neighbours π€·ββοΈππππ unless you can use 75 as your age or DoB π
I thought motability didn’t allow the registration to be delayed to get the latest reg plate… as soon as garage have it they get it out to the customer asap π€
As already said, they all need to be turned off every time you start it up but you should have a * star buttons on the steering wheel or dash you can make a shortcut to the menus.
The bongs volume can be set very low so its hardly noticeable, especially if there’s music playing.
For the lane assist pulling you left ir right then there should be a button on the steering wheel that you press and hold for about 3 seconds to turn it off, you’ll need to read the manual on how to do all these things.
Anything that requires self certification for such a safety critical activity is doomed to have failures. Personally I think everybody that has a driving licence should be reassessed every 10 years. Not the full test again, but an eyesight test so you can read a number plate, a couple of questions on the highway code and a short drive around the block. Not a ban if you fail, you get to complete it with a certain time period (3, 6 or 12 months?) before your licence is removed or restricted π€
I’m not having a go at us disabled or elderly drivers but all drivers cause the standards today are terrible βΉοΈ I think its crazy you could get a licence without ever being on a motorway, or allowed to go on a motorway, but immediately drive away from the test centre and head straight onto the motorway with a car/van full of people π€―
July 16, 2025 at 12:34 am in reply to: Just ordered a Hyundai Ioniq 6 Β£250 off and a free V2L charger. #309675I donβt know which electric tariff youβre on, but worth pointing out that if youβre with Octopus on their Intelligent Go tariff, you get 8% off of many chargers (including Ionity and Gridserve) β as in, at literally every supported bay. The only big one missing is Tesla. No subscription needed either, you just have to charge through their app (Octopus Electroverse). You can, and i only recently learned that, charge and pay through your electricity bill, which i find awesome. Just throwing that out there.
Yes get the Electroverse app and order their card too but a Tesla or Ionity subscription (I’ve got both)Β usually works out cheaper
July 15, 2025 at 11:59 pm in reply to: Just ordered a Hyundai Ioniq 6 Β£250 off and a free V2L charger. #309668@BrydoΒ congratulations, I love mines π©Ά it was a year old on the 11th and I’d order the same again if it’s still available in ’27 π€
Although I got mines from Gateshead (deal on at the time) it is Ally Parade I took it to for servicing and so far I’m 50/50 on them… had an issue with garage, not the car that I’m waiting to get rectified and how/when it gets handled will decide if I go back happy or slag them off and put in a complaint to Motability π€. As for charging with the granny it’d be better if you use a dedicated outdoor 3pin socket or take out a 1 month subscription to Ionity or Tesla (which ever is closest) until your home charger is installed.
@Callmejohn sorry to hear about your stroke, hope your doing better now π€ I did wonder what had happened to you as I was interested to find out about your hand controls while I was waiting on mines coming. Take careIf you’re not due to change until next May then a lot could change before then.
If you can charge at home then get an EV, but only if can home charge cause you will end up doing more miles than expected.
If you’re not going to go out much do you really need a motability car, buy a small cheap runaround and keep the money but I thought they’d stopped allowing extensions π€
I’ve got Tesla and Ionity subscriptions. Might cancel them over the winter but could also keep one just for the occasional road trip π€·ββοΈ
I originally only had Ionity because their chargers usually have better space around them for wheelchair users and are faster with 800v architecture, however down in Cornwall and Wales and up at Ft William and Inverness then Tesla have chargers whereas Ionity don’t.
When I say Cornwall then yes I did use the ones at Bodmin but I also used the Tesla at Camborne.
That’s embarrassing π«£ π€¦ββοΈ
Serious answer now… I’d guess there’s some provision or protocol that would cover this scenario but realistically the last manufacturer to go out of business was SAAB and that took years with many buyouts and plenty of warning… so I’d think you’re okay for the next 3 years π€
I laughed out loud when I read this… πππ
Are you serious π€π€¦ββοΈ
This is the worst case of over thinking I’ve seen in a long time π€―
My brother has a GLB, private bought not Motability. I’m not sure of the trim level but his seems well equipped, it’s a 2023 model and he usually doesn’t buy the base model.
He got it for the 7 seats so can take his grandkids out if needed, plus he wanted a SUV style car as a change from low down BMW sporty cars. It does everything he needs and no complaints so far.
The 1.3 engine does just fine, it won’t win any races but wont embarrass you either and the mpg is about average for any modern vehicle (30’s about town and 40’s on a run?) but he is a low mileage user, mostly short trips of less than 10 miles. Just drive it normally and it’ll keep up with traffic (too many on here seem to want hypercar performance with intergalactic economy π€·ββοΈ)
There’s nothing about it that should put you off getting one especially if you like having a badge to impress the neighbours π
@DJP yeah that’s all I could find too, I must be imagining it π π€
@Abercol that’s good to know, I would have been over every year for the last 11 years but we had 2 cars so spread the mileage and used the wifes for the longer trips π now just using mines all the time so going to sell the other car and pay any excess… it’s only 5p a mile do won’t be a fortune π€πI canβt imagine that they even look at it until the 3 years is up. The limit is 60,000 miles over 3 years. I suspect that the mention of 20,000 miles a year is just for ease of understanding, rather than something that they police. If you think about it, they wouldnβt charge at a year point, as you may be well under the next year and still meet the 60,000 over the 3 years.
Yes that would be my argument too but I’m not phoning them to ask and draw attention to myself π«£π€«ππ so I’ll need to wait and see β³οΈπ€
April 30, 2025 at 10:24 pm in reply to: EV From Northwest England To Cornwall Bank Holiday Weekend #304973Not intending to start any competitions. Simply making the point that 900 miles in a diesel, for around Β£90, without having to stop is not unheard off. Now if you said we done 900 miles and it cost about Β£30 in electric, you would have converted me instantly.Doing 900 miles without having a stop is quite a feat… π± ππHowever I could 900 miles at 4miles/kWh (or better!) and charge at home for 7p so that would cost me Β£15.75 π probably less if I used solar but all that is as irrelevant to the OP as your post was π€«FYI… the Arnold Clark roadshow is Wednesday 7th May so you’ve got an extra day.
Have you decided what you’re going to order or waiting till the show to see if can get any discounts π€
Not fit for purpose is a bit strong… not perfect and can always be improved is more like it π€·ββοΈ same as getting petrol or going shopping π€
I remember when they used to put the EV chargers in disabled bays so they had to be shared which ment disabled drivers in an ICE or able-bodied drivers in an EV arguing over parking bays.
Now the rapid charging network is vastly improved but I do think home charging needs to be addressed. How often are we reading about delays from housing associations in allowing chargers to be fitted, or people in flats with dedicated parking not able to even get a 3 pin socket installed.
