Excess mileage charges

Has anybody went over their annual mileage allowance, either in one year or over the three years, and how did you get billed for it?

I don’t mean going over 60k by the time it went back, I mean going over 20k in a year.

I know it’s 5p a mile extra but I seem to remember from many years ago they would bill you annually even if you ended up under the limit at the end of the lease.

Just wondering as I’ll definitely be 2 or 3,000 over 🤔

I can’t imagine that they even look at it until the 3 years is up. The limit is 60,000 miles over 3 years. I suspect that the mention of 20,000 miles a year is just for ease of understanding, rather than something that they police. If you think about it, they wouldn’t charge at a year point, as you may be well under the next year and still meet the 60,000 over the 3 years.

Yes that would be my argument too but I’m not phoning them to ask and draw attention to myself 🫣🤫😂😂 so I’ll need to wait and see ⏳️🤞

I went over every year of my first 3 year lease and for the first two years on my second. First lease, a Grand Picasso, went back at 72k miles, I was expecting a bill, but nothing ever came. The handover was delayed 3 months, so they could have added a bit of mileage for that and that may have saved me a few £’s.

Next lease was an S-Max, was also over for the first 2 years, but then Covid had me working from home, so mileage for year 3 plummeted & it went back just under 50k miles.

Never contacted during either lease, and they must have known on the Picasso as I had 10 tyres (2 to punctures) and a lot of services as they were 10,000 mile intervals. Only 4 tyres for the S-Max & two services.

This was 2015-21 though, so they may have changed their policy since then…

In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.

I think if you look on motability web site it doesn’t mention an annual limit just the 60,000 for 3 years and 100,000 for 5 years, I stand to be corrected

@DJP yeah that’s all I could find too, I must be imagining it 😂 🤞

that’s good to know, I would have been over every year for the last 11 years but we had 2 cars so spread the mileage and used the wifes for the longer trips 😀 now just using mines all the time so going to sell the other car and pay any excess… it’s only 5p a mile do won’t be a fortune 🤞😂

There’s no one on the scheme getting a better deal than those doing high mileage.
