Interior smell is hard to hold, we kept our “new-car-smell” for around 1.5 years by simply keeping it clean (no detergents, just good ol’ dust rag), and no drinks nor food in it. Didn’t even get takeaway in it. For the outside, hand wash of course. Protective coatings are a bit misleading, most of the stuff they sell you isn’t actually a coating as such – a “real” ceramic coating, which does last for 6+ months (you’ll still have to wash the car though), will cost you a lot more than the tenner for a bottle of some random stuff. For us, basically “the usual”. Handwash only, decent foam lance, wheel brush, two buckets. For foam i use Autoglym Polar Blast, served me well so i don’t bother looking further. For Shampoo i use Autoglym Polar Wash, also applied through the foam lance – you CAN get away with one bucket that way, if you desire. I still use two, but it’s more habit. For coating, it depends. I have had great results with Autobrite MagiSeal, but i’ll give you the best tip ever: realise that the paint on new cars is actually awful, and the best thing you could do is to give it a paint correction. Even just claying will do wonders, i promise you. I clayed the Golf top to bottom, and it was night and day. After that, as mentioned, either MagiSeal if you’re lazy, or a (good) wax. I’d suggest Soft99 Fusso Coat dark (japanese brand) – it’s amazing. Pretty dear for a wax, but worth the weight in gold, genuinely. Going to be one of the first things i’ll do to the car as well, once i’ve read into waxing pearl paints (not sure if there’s something to consider, haven’t looked into that yet). I didn’t put as much effort into a decontaminator, i just got an Amazon grade Iron/Fallout remover, never really felt the need to go balls to the wall on that front. Important is a decent snow lance for pre-wash, decent mitt for washing (and decent microfibre towels for drying), and some good ol’ elbow grease. If you’re confident, definitely clay the car down, too (i know i will). If you do, get a reasonably decent detailer spray for lubricant (something like Meguires Quik Detailer is good enough, and it’s spelled correctly).
All of @Rene recommedations.

Coming soon...BMW X2 sDrive 20i M Sport 5dr Step Auto In November 2025Looking for some advice here (will be contacting dealership tommorrow) Have came home to a red urgent safety recall for my car effectively leaking fuel between a high pressure line and fuel rails Now I know the nearest dealerships to me who take on the Peugeot motability repairs and servicing are always run off there feet and im highly unlikely to get a quick appointment however the letter states that this issue could lead to a full on vehicle fire If I am to fone and the next appointment is weeks away is it best to get a hire car organised through motability in the interim as to not risk the likelihood of the vehicle fire( I have bad luck consistently so knowing me I’d be the one who gets a fire haha) and to further avoid the risk of a claim on my policy for something thats outwith my control
Just for the benefit of other Peugeot drivers. what model is the car concerned in the brief? Thanks

1.2 MHEV 2023-2025 Recall
Hi All – just a heads up to anyone with this model that Stellantis have issued a recall but nothing too concerning. I arrived home to a letter on it tonight. I made it just six weeks with this car and no issues….!Car fire safety recall hits 28 different models including Fiat …Stellantis, the parent company of Peugeot, is recalling 72,000 vehicles due to a potential fire risk caused by a faulty fuel pipe. The issue involves a high-pressure fuel pipe, specifically in vehicles with the 1.2-liter petrol engine, mostly in mild-hybrid variants, produced between 2023 and 2025. Loose nuts on the pipe can cause leaks and potentially lead to fires. Stellantis has initiated the recall process and will contact affected owners. The repair involves retightening the connections, a process that should take less than 30 minutes and will be free of charge

Oo-er. So the car for some reason veered to the left? Do you know why the car did this carmad. It sounds rather scary that for some reason it took over and crashed your car. I do hope you are okay.

Drives beautifully. Colour I chose is metalic Portmantoo Blue. Options went for the tech pack.
Portimao Blue looks fab on the X1 and X2. I think it’d be a toss up between that and Space Silver for me. I miss our BMW and will most likely move back to one at the first opportunity.
As much as I love the PUG 308 GT Premium, It will be sad to say good bye to it at hand over. It has been a great car to drive, and handling has been exclent. However the lure of the BMW X2 was won me back. Loads more room in the X2 than the PUG for a start. The boot is massive on the X2, which I like and remote tailgate will be welcome once again. Internally the build is lush and of good quality materials. The one thing that is missing though is the I drive. That is the only fault I can pick on the X2.

Motability have released a short statement on this. https://news.motability.co.uk/scheme-news/scheme-vehicle-checker-website/
“We’ve seen a website that claims to show whether a vehicle is leased by a disabled person through the Motability Scheme. We’ve tested it and found that the information it gives is not accurate.
The website is run by a third party using government data from the DVLA. It does not have access to any Motability Scheme data. Your information remains secure.
We understand this may be worrying. We’re working with the relevant organisations to address it. “Joss

After Guido revealed thousands have been handed free luxury cars for ailments including “tennis elbow,” “frozen shoulder,” and “failure to thrive,” outrage has rippled through politicians, the press and taxpayers alike. Labour is still refusing to review the scheme…
Nigel Fletcher, CEO of the Motability Foundation, has now complained about media coverage of the scheme as “hostile” and “harmful,” grumbling about an “unprecedented level of misinformed, misrepresented and often hostile” narrative. According to Fletcher, the cars are “not a luxury”…
Now, a website called Motability Check has surfaced – letting users plug in number plates to see if a car’s funded by the taxpayer. A simple tool for a bit of long-overdue transparency…
Dignitaries swiftly joined the meltdown. Work and Pensions Minister Baroness Sherlock claimed she was “shocked” by the site’s existence, while crossbench peer Baroness Grey-Thompson described it as “terrifying” and “despicable,” declaring it “crosses a line to incitement”. The pearl-clutching continues, but the scandal rolls on…
