unsuprisingly the withdrawal of the auto grant by veterans welfare has an impact on choice available as it effectively halves my available funds for the ap.

the choice within the parametres suv, auto, hybrid, under 1k.gives a list of 14 models. i have tried most by sitting in them and that list reduces to 5.

      juke tekna                        £269

juke tekna+                      £887  are the extras needed or worth it???

      yaris cross design           £115

yaris cross gr sport         £983   again is it just nice to have stuff?

kuga st line                       £633. this is the one i would have chosen anyway as it doesnt have a sunroof i hate em odd because i would have a ragtop at the drop of a hat if one were available lol.

      kona  n-line                     £537

      quashqai epower n-connecta     £787.

so nothing really excites and i know its a long way to feb 28th when i can order and i cant see many ap’s coming down.

what do people think at the moment the sensible head says juke tekna at £269.

the way out there option is the ioniq 6 which on wpms has a similar ap and really appeals apart from the fact its electric, although i would only need to charge once a month plus extra for long journies but there arent many of them.

Why not have another Juke, it gets you from A to B @60mpg, which would be cheaper to run than charging on public chargers!

The Tekna + &  GR Sport are feasable if you cn put a few pennies away between now and then and are both as economical. Equally a change might be good and you only live once (but only if money allows)

Qahqai E-Power is feasable, similar mpg and given its the model up from the Juke, will likely see more equipment than the Juke N Connecta.

Kona 1.0 is about 10mpg less economical not being full hybrid.

The Kuga would not be as economical, as the above two and considerations to the extra running cost could put you in the Tekna + or GR Sport.

Still long way go though, which could see AP changes good or bad or new models joining 🙂

the juke tekna is favourite at the moment as the upgrade includes winter stuff heated this and that which would be nice to have and of course ive had the n-connecta for 2 years now and know it works for me.

i need to dig into what exactly the + gives for the extra £600.

i agree the gr sport is tempting and would need to see one in the flesh as ive only tried the base model. the car fits so to speak but again does the extra £800 give you more than an empty wallet lol.

the juke tekna also comes in a rather fetching yellow so i would be able to find it in a car park lol.

The Tekna (£269) has everything you would want. The Tekna+ doesn’t add much other than a few cosmetic changes and leather/alcantara seats. The Juke was also updated in 2024.

@Mitch what has happened with the vetrans grant?  I am looking at the Corrola GR sport 2.0 ltr. Man those sports seats are very comfortable.

i got a letter from them last week basically saying that as most cars are now becoming electric or hybrid and come auto as standard theres no penalty any longer in needing an auto so they are stopping it from 1st oct 25.

@kezo, yes thats what i thought about the + it has more bing and bongs as well which is not to my taste.

ive sat in the tekna and the seats are nice and they have speakers in the headrest. not sure if they are just gimmicky or if they will make a difference. i am not a sound system person but the juke is okish normally so if they give a boost i am all for that lol.

Perhaps you can wait until end of the quarter and see if there are cashback offers available on cars above your limit, but more suitable for your needs?

@kdwolf yes i am tempted to attempt to extend the lease and then look for in stock deals but i know mota are pushing more for people to stick to the 3 year lease. just part of me seems to think that ap’s rarely go down unless its the end of a production run and theyre trying to dump the last of a version. also over the last 2 years little or nothing new has come on the scheme suuitable only a couple of electrics and as i cant charge at home they will cost more to run. that said if the ioniq  6 stays at its current price till may i could be tempted its a loveley car. probably the best looker on the scheme.

still there are many in a worse position than me so i shouldnt complain too much.

I am due to order my next car in March 26. The Ioniq 6 is top of my list, advance payment for War pensioner is great value, the 6 is having a facelift with the rear spoilers now becoming just one smaller spoiler. New front lights and a couple of minor tweaks. I have everything crossed it’s still available next year. I took it for a test drive and it’s lovely to drive and very comfortable. Way better than my Megane e and my previous ID3. Good luck with your search.

The ioniq 6 is a bold option—very sleek and modern, but being fully electric could be a dealbreaker for those without easy home charging or doing long drives often. Still, for mostly local use, it might just work.

I have ordered the 6. the new Face-lift looks good, i like the twin spoiler, boy racer stlye, the main uplift for me, would be the interior, the current version, looks a bit cheap, hyundai says its all about sustainability!! Let’s hope it not too bad, in the long run. coming from a BMW.

I got an EV 6 months ago and luckily I can charge at home. I have done 3 trips outside my cars range and it hasn’t been a problem for us charging.

The longest I’ve spent charging was 19 mins. I charge at home maybe once every week and it’s so cheap and what really helps is cabin preconditioning or cabin comfort. No longer do I get into a cold car in the winter or I can keep it cool while having lunch or shopping. So an Ev is perfect for us now.

Although I do need an suv and looking at the 6 recently in a car park and it looked low, So I’d have to sit in one to see. It will certainly open up other options and is worth considering, if you can charge at home and like us only do the odd longer trip.

As for different trim levels and AP prices it really is only something you can only compare the trim level on each different model.

Just got our 1st car with a panoramic roof. As it was the only trim available on the scheme and its brilliant. We really missed it, when we didn’t have the car for a month and the hire car was so dark inside, without one.

Would I pay extra probably not, but for better more comfortable seats that powered or adaptive cruise I would. As they so important to me. Although I have never added an extra to an MB car always what comes as standard.

It is also all about the actual drive and that often decides which I go for although you might not get to do a test drive in the trim level you’ll get.

Dedicated EVs can be misleading in that regard, due to the battery pack being in the floor.

Meaning the seats are higher than you’d expect in a low slung car. Of course it’s not going to be the same seating position as in a VW Touareg or something, but it’s not as low as you might think.

i spent an hour or two in the chesterfield hyndai mainly for the kona but i had to try the 6 and it wasnt 2 bad the good thing is huge doors that open very wide and the seats automatically move backwards for you to get in and then move to your saved drivingg position. so it wasnt too uncomfortable getting in and out. the seats themselves very comfortable. the thing is if my condition gets worse i will be in a wheelchair so a lower car will be better.

the only drawback with the  6 is i cant charge at home, but my mileage will halve after next week unless you know any one who needs a 66 year old bookkeeper. so i reckon once a month at dobbies for an 80% charge will suffice, free coffee and bacon bap plus whatever i spend in the garden centre and cotton traders so could be an expensive refuel lol.

On the ex30 I have the floor is raised, which is strange at 1st as there’s no real drop down from the lower door sills to put your feet in and its a dedicated ev. The mach e was kind of the same if I remember and both the height of the door and roof is lower than all cars I’ve had before. The scenic was the worst for that, everytime I tried to get in a bashed my head of the door opening. Certainly though I’d not discount any car that ticked my boxes till I’d sat in it and had a good look at the boot etc and lastly had a test drive.

the rest i will test drive in february when i can order. the sit tests will continue as and when the back feels up to it.

other than that all i can do is wait and watch the ap’s, hopefully come down lol.

Arnold clark do charging now also 55p a kwh. You book via their app. Instavolt after 8pm is 54p a kwh via the app. There is a tesla open to all at east midlands designer outlet after 8pm till 00.00 only 38p and 00.00 to 8am 32p that’s without the monthly subscription.

I got my ex30 from chesterfield as my local one closed a few years ago now. wasn’t sure if id get the charger installed but luckily I did,  but I’d drive to tesla there from me, once a week if needed. As they just so much cheaper than other CPO off peak. plus you do get a bp pulse subscription from MB and they about 63p but in chesterfield fastest is only 50kw and that’s too slow, Arnold Clark are 150kw so in theory you charge 3 times as quick and cheaper.
