Ive gone from a diesel 2.0 150 Tiguan DSG (returned due to fault) back to a Ford Kuga 1.5 ecoboost 150 petrol manual (big mistake) ordered a Kia Sportage HEV, dealership were rude to me and didn’t give updates.
I contacted my local Hyundai garage and they had what I wanted in stock, a HEV Tucson in the Ultimate trim in Grey, ready for delivery in a week. I paid a little more in AP than I would have liked but it has been worth it, like Glos Guy has said it wants for nothing, Lovely car, everything is so smooth (including belt pulleys- nope I didn’t pick up on this passengers who have a brand new X1 did and actually commented on how BMW are taking a lot of ideas from the Gemini group; Hyundai/Kia ) the boot can be folded half back so you can store heavier things to stop it from squashing lighter stuff, its so quiet I have forgotten to turn it off a few times but it won’t lock (luckily for me I have to double check its locked).
I enjoy driving again, and when you put your foot down, well for me coming from the Kuga it feels like your taking off!
Hyundai wouldn’t be a brand i’m normally drawn to, but go and have a look, I wanted luxurious interior quality and the leather heated and cooled seats and whole interior really set it apart for me.
Definitely give other brands a chance, I loved the Kia Sportage also, only thing I didn’t like was no real exhausts on it. (nothing major) but IMO think they are both bold cars with fantastic equipment.
Picked my Tucson up within a week after waiting 3 months longer than the expected delivery date for a KIA Sportage and poor customer service from the KIA garage, Hyundai were the only dealership local to me who weren’t disappointed when they heard ‘ Motability’. They went above and beyond in my opinion, I paid £600 more for the Tuscon than the KIA would have cost, however I couldn’t wait any longer and I feel its worth the customer service I got!
Give dealerships a call, there are accommodating ones out there!
@kezo – Looks good, i’m really impressed with the quality interior and exterior, i love that the seat moves backwards when getting out and forwards when getting in. The pano roof is so much bigger than the Kuga, The car overall seems smaller than the Kuga, however its been no issue, to be honest its probably the right size for us.
The drive I have found to be smooth and responsive, the acceleration is impressive, so is the handling overall, other than i’m getting used to the slight steering control.
However main thing is.. no more changing gears!!!! its like luxury and I think I actually prefer the Tucson over the Sportage, i’ve had neighbours come over to ask to look inside the car and sit in it they all said how lovely it looks! They’re aware it’s a MB car for my son. Even the Royal Mail Postie commented on it and said she was looking at one also.
Still loving the new car smell though! A Smell you just can’t buy (well unless your buying a new car)
Mine didn’t come with car mats, you’d expect the basic mats on a £4k AP, however got some off amazon next day delivery for £20 which seem a good enough quality.
My mum noticed the piano black on the exterior of the door looks all scratched however i’m aware it goes like this from being cleaned/ car wash, it was something I noticed on the Sportage in the show room was the swirl marks on the piano black bits. This can’t be prevented unless you give a strict no clean rule and as my vehicle was a stock vehicle inevitably when I collected it, it had been cleaned (with a few cobwebs on the wing mirrors still) but this is pretty minor and like I said to my mum its not exactly mine to keep pristine to ensure resale value, its for use, practicality and hardback so a few swirl marks isn’t enough for me to complain, not giving as the dealership got me a car so quick and were genuinely lovely.
My partner likes colour coded, however he said the black bumpers/ sills/ arches make it look rugged due to its shape it suits it, which I agree, the grey also blends in lovely particularly with the front bumper/splitter as there is a different grey and the silver adds to it!
So overall i’m really pleased with the Tucson, less than a week in!
Yes I went for the Ultimate HEV in the Ecotronic Grey Pearl, Black interior (Confirmed this morning with the dealership as I forgot to ask) which is what I wanted and would have pretty much ordered anyway.
Partner is happy as he likes Tucsons and wasn’t keen on Sportage but i’m the main user of the vehicle as its my sons disability car so doesn’t really matter to him, hopefully this will help alleviate some of the energy depletion I suffer with from driving a manual and get some of my life back by not being stuck in the house all the time! (I applied to change vehicles last October so it’s almost a year!)
I looked at the N-Line styling and I’ve had a couple of sporty looking cars and I decided to go for a change this time, especially being as the other half has just taken ownership (on Friday) of a brand new Transit Custom Sport (made him pay the extra for an auto so I can drive it!) So we now have a sporty van which will be converted into a camper at some point.
Howdy you find the tech on the Tucson, it looks more complex than the ford Sync 3 that’s for sure!
@Ioniq – I went on a trip to my local Sainsbury’s a week or so ago, and around the corner on the way home is a car dealership which used to sell used cars, now completely gone and is full of grey Tucsons, so it made me ponder then.
Kia just reaffirmed to be honest, so when I went int0 Hyundai I told them I saw the stock they have the other side of town which were all grey Tucsons (the colour I was going to order in either premium, n line or ultimate)
Collect this Thursday 10am, so pretty quick turn around, really pleased.
Cancelled my Kia order this morning went into showroom and no one was around (15 mins after opening time) apparently they have a half an hour meeting as soon as they open and no one other than receptionist is available! shambles to say the least. I waited and made sure the order was cancelled.
Went to Hyundai and they have a stock Tuscon Ultimate HEV for me in Grey which is what I’d have ordered anyway, however unsure of the interior colour but not fussed as need an Auto ASAP. will let you know when I get it which he said will be mid to end of next week as its in stock!. So pleased!
Let us know how it goes with the car Micky
What did model did you go for? How have you found the PHEV? I was looking at the Ultimate Hybrid.
I noticed that my Motability account only updated in June to ‘The dealer has ordered the car” prior to June it was showing as Application Passed. And didn’t know if this was normal or not, when I went in Last week of July I was told then it was showing as not currently in manufacture and they told me it was ordered 14th April (I placed my order with them on the 28th March)
I like the look of both the Tuscon and the Sportage, I know they are sister vehicles but need an automatic ASAP and needs to be SUV height due to back and hip problems.
Sorry to hear your issues with the Sportage Micky!
I still haven’t had mine yet and have only contacted the dealership twice since ordering in March, Today, I was spoken to rudely put on hold without notification and then he re answered the phone like it was a new call (so think he actually tried to put the phone down on me) told me to call back another day to speak to the guy I ordered with? I don’t know how that makes much difference in looking on the order system? after todays treatment and told they don’t know when as its still not in production, ill be going in and cancelling tomorrow.
Ive spoken to Hyundai and they have a Tuscon in stock for me if I order tomorrow they said I can collect in a week or so. So that’s what i’m doing. I have to bite the bullet and pay an extra £600 AP but I don’t think I want to deal with my local KIA in the event of an issue.
Hope you get yours sorted.
@glosguy My Tig had the ‘travel assist currently unavailable’ issue where it went off every 30 seconds, I handed it back and got my money back for the optional extras as threatened to take them to small claims court for it as loads evidence online of the issue but them continuing to sell cars with it happening.
Same as you because of that I rather pay a higher AP to cover all the extras so if any issues you get it back pro rata.
@kezo – I hope so! unless this is why some of the sportages have been pulled off Motability as there is another change, hopefully I will have secured a 212, but it is what it is I suppose!
@mickyarmy – Looks fantastic! Gleaming! Can’t wait to get mine!@mickyarmy – just had a look on Carwow and kia online, their now showing the engines being 207ps rather than the 212ps.
I wonder what we will get?
@mickyarmy – Argh, maybe we could be in the same delay boat? or at least our sportages could be on the same boat?
Either way they will be worth the wait when they get here, having done a good comparison within my budget and the new VW Tig coming on the scheme having a look at cost vs spec I am very glad I ordered a Sportage! didn’t have much luck with my Tig it had to go back and reverting back to a manual, well someone on here did say you’ll regret it! and i’ll admit they were right and they did ‘tell me so!’ going back to an AUTO can’t come quick enough!
As always Micky keep us updated!
@mickyarmy I haven’t checked today but yesterday I looked there was only 48V and the PHEV.
Great news @mickyarmy
Hopefully this means mine isn’t too far behind!
Looking forward to the updates and what you think once you’ve had it a while!, it better not disappoint!
26/03/2024 and Kidderminster (Worcestershire) estimated delivery was for 30/06/2024.
But to be honest I was expecting it to be around end of July beginning August looking at the wibblers list on the kia forum, around 5 months is the average wait time (from a quick skim of the document).
Hopefully it means it’s built and on its way!
Had an update from my dealer today to say there’s a 5-6 week delay on my delivery for my Sportage, I asked where in the process it is but haven’t received a reply.
Still…. looking forward to when it’s finally here!
As with any manufacturer there are so many vehicles out there experiencing problems, take me for instance, VW Tiguan had it 13 months on the scheme – Travel assist error (no way to fix temporarily and 5 month wait for part) MB allowed me to change to a Kuga two weeks ago I had a recall letter my vehicle was one of around 1,200 (ish) to be effected by the fuel injector issue ( luckily for me I had it booked in for a service and received the letter the day after booked it in so called up to add on the recall).
Every manufacturer has issues… clearly I should know, haha!
And like you, I have gone with a Sportage for a change due to needing an automatic and it was and still is the only appropriate vehicle on the vehicle to change to, that’s where we have an advantage as MB customers to cancel or change the lease when faults arise that can’t be fixed, but we always allow the opportunity for repair.
Got my update and told still on for end of June start of July delivery.
I ordered a Sportage two tone lunar silver and black and had no extra charge, I think it depends on the dealership rather than the manufacturer?
You should have been given an order copy which would list the optional extra you have chosen to add to the vehicle on the previous orders I have placed with optional extras it stated what they were and the cost at time of order and that’s what I paid on collection of the vehicle.
@kmb786 – Although it was a ‘policy’ it was originally part of the scheme, it was something that was offered to the customers, this alone can be a ‘factor’ when considering to join the scheme, so as many have pointed out that they have removed the ‘option’ without informing those who joined and contracted with MB when this ‘policy’ was in action.
The fact they have removed it without formal notice could be considered a ‘breach of contract’ When I joined I actually took a screenshot of the policy stating I could purchase the vehicle (I would have to go through many photos to try and find this) incase this type of thing happened.
This could be considered ‘unfair’
It may be worth going to the Ombudsman because well… what have you got to loose?
It could be that this may change over the course of the next few years again, but for me it was a factor that helped me decide in joining the scheme being unable to purchase a ‘new vehicle’ but also being able to have one second hand that I have technically had since new with all the optional extras I need for my needs (medical and preferece)
@greyhoundlady – looking at wibblers spreadsheet on the Kia forum for the Sportage, people who ordered in August (after you also) got theirs delivered between November and January.
I’d probably be paying the dealership a visit to see for myself, or even in an email ask for a screen shot of your order status.
@mickyarmy – Petrol Particulate Filter
@greyhoundlady – That seems crazy! Spec, colour, engine did you order?@tudor777 – pleasantly surprised at the responsiveness much better than my 1.5 150 ecoboost Kuga that’s for sure! drive was a lot smoother than my Kuga, which I could tell by getting back into the Kuga and driving the same roads as I did on the test! Major difference in comfort.
I guess only time will tell with the delivery.
@markymate – yep! i’ve updated mine on the wibblers list too! and become a KIA forum member. I’d be happy with a July/August delivery! even better if it’s sooner, but its always best to presume worst case, at least any earlier it would be a nice surprise!@greyhoundlady – That’s a long time, have you spoken to your dealership? do you get monthly updates? I ask for an update monthly. I was quoted last month when looking at a PCP on Sportage and was told May/ June, by the same dealership but they didn’t know it was me when I ordered as I did this via Carwow online.
My dealership have said they have stock coming in end of the month and then the next is expected end of June.
I guess shipping could be a major factor currently.
I went to look at a Renault Austral and was told stock available if I wasn’t fussy and the same end of June/July for factory.
@markymate I went for the 212 HEV, they advised me it was much better value for money against the 48V, I test drove the 48V and was surprised with it responsiveness being as its a 150 like my current Kuga.
