Usually the Housing Association would obtain quotations for the grant works from four building contractors on its approved list. They don’t have to accept the cheapest quote but most of the time they will which can lead to cost cutting and short cuts. Have a word with the Occupational Therapist and see if she can help sort out the mess the HA has left you with and say you want a new contractor on the approved list to put everything right. The HA can withhold part of a contractors bill to rectify any outstanding faults.

As a council tenant myself it seems the old saying buy cheap, pay twice is very fitting for some council and HA Landlords. If only they would pay that little bit extra so people can get the D F G contractors they want and need then the finished  job would be a lot more satisfactory.

I’ve splashed out (£12) for a pair of polarized night time driving glasses and will report back. If they don’t work I’ll have to become the lead singer in a U2 tribute band.

Whatever you do, don’t get the U2 voiced satnav. The streets have no names and you’ll never find what you are looking for.

Yeah, my folks rented a coin operated TV for years and when I moved into my first flat I also opted to rent instead of buying.

Does anyone remember what they put on top of their wood veneer cabinet?

We had a spider plant on top of our TV for years and my girlfriend (now wife) thought nothing of watering it with the telly on ?

Anyone know if the digital display speedo readout can be changed easily from KMH to MPH and vice versa on the virtual cockpit?

Some of the old non digital multi-function display on VW, Skoda and SEAT would come delivered in KMH only and needed plug in equipment to change from KMH to MPH.

I ordered a VW Tiguan Auto on the very last day of Q3 when the AP was £2,899 the idea being I could change the paperwork very quickly the next day if the AP went down. On the first day of Q4 the AP went up by £500 to £3,399. I was told I could be waiting up to 12 months for delivery so with that in mind I still keep an eye on any new cars coming on the scheme in case they are a better match or can be ordered from stock quicker.

Thanks for the info kezo. My previous cars have been from stock and the Tiguan is my first factory order. It looks like the limited stock Kodiaq on offer has cruise control with speed limiter which is good. I was hoping some of the Kodiaq stock cars may have had the adaptive cruise control as a free extra. I would miss that and I also like the adaptive steering on the Tiguan.

Just a thought. I know there is a new Tiguan facelift being launched in early 2024, does that mean anyone that ordered a Tiguan in late 2023 and have a long wait in 2024 will get the new  facelift model?

I ordered a VW Tiguan Allspace automatic in September when it was £2899 (now £3399) but was told it could be Sept 2024 before I get my hands on it. I have already extended my VW Sharan for 2 years which expires Dec 2024 and was looking at the stock Kodiaq, Tarraco and Mazda CX-5 options.

Do you know if the stock Kodiaq’s have the adaptive cruise control and adaptive steering as standard?

A lot of flood water could be avoided if the authorities dredged the rivers and maintained ditches. Also there doesn’t seem to be any teams of manual seasonal road sweepers anymore or even the odd lorry sweeper that kept the storm drains clear from blocking which leads to deep puddles on our roads in heavy rain.

If floods on our roads weren’t bad enough, most of us on a good day spend a lot of time trying to avoid pot holes. Why is there enough tarmac to make speed humps, but not enough to fill the pot holes?

My wife was feeling very poorly this morning so I took breakfast up to her. Bacon, sausages, eggs, beans, hash brown and tomatoes. Just got to get the camping stove up there now so she can cook it for me.

Thanks for the advice and info guys, very much appreciated. My list has now got smaller and I am left with the Tiguan, Kodiaq, Tarraco or Mazda CX-5.

Comparing the petrol entry level models I notice that the Kodiaq  1.5 TSI SE L Executive 5dr DSG, that is available from stock has the adaptive cruise control as an option at  £550 and the adaptive steering is £1595.00, whereas on the Tiguan Allspace 1.5 TSI Life 5dr DSG, it is included as standard. That could narrow it down to the Tiguan, Tarraco and Mazda CX-5.

I can honestly say I have never sat in an EV, not unless you count the Unigate milk float I sat on as a schoolboy in 1969 helping to deliver milk for pocket money.

I am at that age where I am quite happy to go through my whole driving experience sitting behind the steering wheel of a petrol or diesel car. I like big automatic vehicles, with wide opening driver’s door and a seat height that is easy to get in and out of. I have a VW Sharan auto that I have extended for 2 years and IMO it is the best car to drive for big people. Plenty of cabin space and a huge loading space in the back plus 7 full size adult seats and comfortable to drive on long distance. It’s not going to be easy to replace.

I still have a few ICE options on the scheme like the VW Tiguan, Seat Tarraco, Peugeot 5008, and Mazda C-X5 which are not AP friendly but still better than some EV prices. The Volvo XC40 petrol is a vehicle that is great value at £1,999 and with the £750 off it is £1249. Not sure if it is a good choice for bigger drivers.

If anyone has the pros and cons they can share of the VW Tiguan, Seat Tarraco, Peugeot 5008, Mazda C-X5 and Volvo XC40 it would be much appreciated.

It doesn’t get paid for the car until you collect it. It’s only applied to your account so you know what your expected bill is going to be. If you cancel and change it just moves to your new car. I cancelled a car in September and went straight to a different dealer and placed a new order and it was applied on the new order straight away.

Thanks for the info Olpk, that’s good to know. I ordered in September but it will take at least a year for a Tiguan to be delivered. Since then you can get the Seat Tarraco, Volvo xc40 on motability and my choice hopefully the stock Skoda Kodiaq in December.

Does the £750 go back to mobility and released again when you choose another car?

I doubt Motability will actually give it to the dealer in the first place, rather the dealer is able to discount the AP minus £750 if the customer requests and Motability sorts it from there. Therefore should you cancel, it is applied to the new vehicle.

Ah right, yes that makes sense, thanks. I wasn’t quite sure when motability released the money to the dealer. Thinking about it, I suppose motability will want to hold onto it until after the pin number is entered. That makes it easier for people like me who have a very long waiting time on order but can change it if a suitable stock offer becomes available quicker.

Thanks for the replies folks. It seems to happen with Europcar on a regular basis according to Google reviews.  One of the solutions several people have suggested is to get Motability to waive the £1 debit/credit card fee with Europcar on initial contact. That has worked for people apparently, especially if they have had money taken previously. I’m glad people got their money back from Europcar, but there must be better hire companies Motability can use; their cars aren’t exactly the best examples both inside and out, IMHO.

Well, I suppose it is called Advance Payment for a reason, but seriously its shocking how much the prices have increased. I was able to afford my first mobility car with a part exchange on my old car. My present car is a VW Sharan which I got from stock with a big dealer discount and I still have it on a 2 year extension. Surely though, the onus should be on the salesman at the initial sale to point out what the dealers policy is for paying any outstanding AP. Also, I think you can pay the AP in installments as long as you pay the full amount before or on the day of collection.

I ordered my Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace 1.5 TSI Life Auto, on the very last day of Q3 this year which was a Saturday when the AP was £2,899. My thinking was, if the AP went down the next day,( the first day of Q4) the paperwork would be a lot easier to sort out. I asked the motability chap if he would do that and he agreed to re-do the paperwork if the AP was lower the next day. As it turned out the AP went up the next day by £500 to £3,399. Just have to wait and hope for a whole year now, with fingers crossed.
