I hope the dealer network has improved, was abysmal when I had a 156 back in the day.
November 12, 2022 at 7:36 pm in reply to: Owners of emission-free vehicles to pay tax for the first time………… #200338The government should introduce a variable tax for EV so if you buy a EV under 35k for example then no tax is to be paid, however after that tax would then be applied on sliding scale against the purchase price
Looks great in Orange, not sure about the interior but this seems the way most EV’s are going down the minimalist route.
if they can get on top of the early quality niggles could be onto a real winner especially as the average wait is only 6-8 weeks.
Not a bad EV for the price, certainly look better with the new front end and other external tweaks, the real improvement is inside with a new up to date dash made with higher quality materials.
Decent range and kit for the price what’s not to like.
though I would say they are more of a sports tourer than genuine estate.
Got the news that our vehicle has arrived at the dealership.
Its off now to the convertors so we should be looking at picking it up sometime next week.
Await of around 10 months
About time, reduced tax should only have ever been applied affordable electric vehicle’s say capped at 35k max.
At present you have the obscene situation where somebody can pay well over a 100k for a vehicle and pay no VED while someone on minimum wage and running and old banger as its all they can afford is paying hundreds a year.
October 12, 2022 at 4:42 pm in reply to: VAT relief on Private adapted motor vehicles for disabled #198126Hi,
From memory the form I provided a link for was sufficient for the dealer at the time, I dont think the dealer I was using was that arsed to be honest, as long as they had a declaration from us on the form it was sufficient for them and to be fair when are the inland revenue ever going to check? especially given that the inland revenue itself cannot provide a specific guide for what dissability or what mobility/ driving aid and meets the criteria for VAT relief.
Some dealers ask for a seperate declaration from the person applying for the VAT exemption this can be in either a written declaration or a generic one like the one on your link, or at least that’s how it was when I last appiled but that was a few years ago.
October 12, 2022 at 1:16 pm in reply to: VAT relief on Private adapted motor vehicles for disabled #198098Thank you for sharing your experience – are you able to confirm what details the dealer will need from me? I use a wheelchair but at the same time I can also walk a few steps, so confused if A) I qualify and B) how will the dealership know if I am able to claim thiis?
Hi its fairly simple the form is one you can download link below:
All we did was print a couple and take them with you, when you find the right car and price fill this form out, once completed the dealer will send the declaration off and should apply the vat deduction to your invoice.
October 12, 2022 at 12:11 pm in reply to: Customer Reviews of Motability Dealerships – from 1st November 2022 #198092I’m fuming to say the least because I’ve never ever in my 50 years of driving know a garage to MOT first then do the service. I’ve never had a garage not bring the car back on the same day either.
I had the same issue took the car in for its MOT and service(still in warranty) MOT still had nearly 4 weeks to run.
Got a phone call to say the brakes had failed and needed changing, no problem thinks I being an ex technician I would do the work at home and bring it back for a re-test, however due to changes in the MOT I was informed I could not drive the vehicle away as they deemed it to dangerous to drive! and they would only allow the vehicle to be removed on a low loader!
When I pointed out that in all my years working in the trade when a vehicle came in for a service and MOT the service was in everycase done before the MOT they just smilled, it would seem that workshops are taking adavantage of the changes to the MOT to fleece customer as it make no sense to MOT a vehicle before the service.
October 12, 2022 at 11:52 am in reply to: VAT relief on Private adapted motor vehicles for disabled #198090From my experience with a new vehicle purchase, it’s fairly straight foward process.
Once you have found a suitable and arranged a price, the dealer will need to complete the VAT exemption form and will require your detials etc and the 20% reduction will be taken from the agreed purchase price.
We even managed to get the VAT exemption back dated on one vehicle we had already purchased, in that instance the finance company altered the monthly payments.
As the supplying dealer is claiming the VAT exeption, there is no VAT etc to pay when you sell or trade the vehicle.
September 20, 2022 at 12:21 pm in reply to: Claiming VAT back after purchasing used disabled car #196573Hi Jen,
We managed to get the VAT back after paying the full price on a new car purchase a few years ago.
Went and explained the situation to the sales manager, basically we has had adaptions fitted which we got the VAT reduction on but they had not applied it to the vehicle.
We filled the form in and eventually the Finance company adjusted the monthly payments accordingly.
Dealer just give us another update, apparently our car has been built and has a delivery date for November.
I asked the dealer about the specification changes and was told as ours had been ordered before the change in specification it will have the panoramic roof etc.
Lets wait and see
Had a 2016 Ntec Dci was really impressed with it, decent sized boot for the hiost and chair etc, easy to get inand out of anddrove well being the Ntec had had plenty of tech as well, my only complaint would have been that being the 1.6DCi auto it was a bit sluggish.
Am really intrested in the new X trail however I doubt we will being seeing on MB at a reasonable AP for sometime.
Alfa’s make lovely looking cars no doubt.
However my experience of having owned new Alfa’s is once you get past the looks and the sporting prestige in everday use they are dynamically inferior to other premium brands such as Audi, Mercedes & BMW etc and the dealers were hopeless at fixing issues.
Hopefully things may have changed.
Ordered ours in Jan just been given a new Update from the dealer for November wont hold my breath.
Ordered in Jan still no firm delivery date, every time we get a date it gets pushed back.
Unfortunately there have been instances where disabled people have been over charged for the same journey as a abled body person and is probably more widespread than we would like to think but still a minority of drivers and companies.
Most taxi cab drivers we have encountered have been great will help load my wifes folding wheel chair etc if required even if the vehicle is not a designated accesable taxi.
The crux is you cannot by law charge a disabled person more for the same journey as an able bodied person, the equality act of 2010 expects drivers of PHV especially those designated to carry out reasonable adjustments for disabled users such as opening the door, helping to fold down wheelchairs and storing them, placing the ramps and securing the wheelchair etc etc.
In reality the extra time it takes to any of these things is marginal and shouldn’t be used to stiff the disabled.
I used to work at a major manufacturers distribution centre and transit damage was quite common.
The standard for new cars (especially for private customers) was different from used vehicles even if the used car was only pre registered and had a few miles on the clock.
Basically any dent that could not be repaired using high build primer was classed as used and couldn’t be sold as new, it was a no no to use filler on a new vehicle so it wouldn’t surprise if a complete new door is fitted rather than using filler to repair the door or re-skinning it.
It’s all a big con, profiteering on a international level.
I never believed in conspiracy theories but am getting there.
Usually when you have price spikes like these are usually due to shortages, in the past petrol shortages have resulted in high prices, rationing at the pumps and filling stations running out of fuel, this time the price is through the roof yet no shortages that I have seen? in fact just a few months ago there was fuel shortages in parts of the country due as we were told to a lack of drivers (fuel retialers were lobbying the government due relax visa’s for foriegn drivers), fast foward a few months and fuel prices at nearly £2 per litre and just like that there is no longer a shortage of drivers, in fact the retialers cannot get the fuel to the forecourts quick enough.
Gas and electricity going through the roof but again no shortages, no rationing, lights not going out yet just massive price hikes and profits.
its all very strange…….

July 25, 2022 at 8:41 am in reply to: Disabled minister calls for investigation ‘secret tricks’ of assessmets #191634At my wife last assessment which was in a building located on an industrial estate, she needed to go to the tiolet and the building didnt even have a disabled tiolet I wont go into what happened next………….
Ah the good days of reasonable AP’s and wait times.
We had 2016 Xtrail Diesel Auto great car, lots of toys and I miss the glass roof think all in with the hoist the AP was about £1850, our current car the Outlander was similair Ap.
fast foward 3 yrs and for similiar money you can get an MG!
We ordered ours auto in Red from Croxdale in Jan still waiting no delivery date now Oct 2022.
Anyone know a Dealer BMW tech?
Buy a base model and bung a tech a few quid to activate the options.
You make some very good points, i have been thinking broadly the same.
For those who can afford a new BEV or a fairly new used one there’s not much of a problem, however there are many people who can only afford a few thousand pounds for a banger.
Many will sinply not have the money to buy a half decent used BEV, petrol will soon be unafordable nevermind road tax so these people will be forced off the road and onto our inadequate public transport, so those in power can claim they have achieved the emmisons targets.
