Alfa in Leicester cancelled my test drive. I’m not much for “signs” but I’ll take it ?

Im not in the market for one at the Mo, but I think it’s a very nice looking and welcome addition to the scheme for sure

watched a couple of videos on it

definitely a bit of a head turner scheme wise

it’s been doom and gloom for so long so this is a very welcome little ray of light ??

I hope the dealer network has improved, was abysmal when I had a 156 back in the day.

I called our local dealer to ask them if I could have a look around one.

First, the rep told me there are no Alfas on Motability.  When I insisted, he said said we have other brands but no Alfas.  When I doubled down, he said he will check and get back to me.  5 minutes later, he said, the Motability guy is too busy to talk now, he’ll call you back.

    I wasn’t holding my breath.

Surprisingly, about an hour later, I got a call telling me I have to wait until my lease has ended.  I told him that I am already on an extension, and my hand back date is the end of March.  He then insisted when I receive a letter from Motability saying I can change car, then I can change car.

I said, I’ve filled in all the applicable details in my online Motability account, and it tells me there I can apply for a new car.  He said, I’ve already told you, you need that letter.  When you’ve got a letter, then come back.

I asked if I don’t receive a letter until January 1st, when it’s a new quarter, can you guarantee that the car will still be available? He gave me the obvious answer, no.

So, guys, please tell me.  Is the guy wrong or is my online Motability account wrong?

You are correct, I did everything online on my account and it gave me the same message. I went to my local Alfa dealership (Cardiff) and they were great. Went in on the Saturday and had a quick look, couldn’t do a test drive that day as no available staff but booked in for test drive the Monday after – let me go out by myself for a good 30 min test drive. Came back and said yes I want it, I have completed my application online. No problem, asked for my NI number, tapped it in, yes all details there, just need to confirm drivers are correct and what colour you want….. done.

Sorry you haven’t had the same experience but I would suggest your dealer doesn’t know what they are talking about.

T.O.M. it Might be best to give Motability a call or try another dealer as you can get the car from any dealer and get it serviced at another dealer. As it seems they don’t seem to bothered and another dealer might.

For me I guess it would be a drive to an alfa dealer either north or south of where I live as there’s not one locally. Personally that puts any car of the list for me as it’s a pain for the duration of the lease than if i get a car from a dealer that is local.

Thank you, @KSN for clarifying what I thought.  I think you nailed it, they don’t “know what they’re talking about”.

Thank you, @AtoB_Dude – my next closest dealer is about 73 miles away.  I really don’t think it is worth it.  Though it’s a nice car,  I still think the AP is a bit high, and I was already sitting on the fence, but willing to bite the bullet.  This dealership has proven to be untrustworthy and unprofessional.  For me, it was a sign to say no. (At least for now)

I think I shall wait, in hope, for the first quarter of 23 to see what else might pop up.

Thank you all for your reasoned responses.  I hope you all have a good day.

How about the Mazda CX-5 Sport Edition? In auto its a grand less than the Alpha.

What timescale did the dealer give you for delivery?

I’m not taken on the model name, but the car itself looks interesting.

    @Phil

Got quoted 5 to 6 months, although did call me and offered me a white one in build that was a cancellation- decided to wait for the colour I want.

    Thanks KSN,

I may go and have a look at one. My Mini Cooper S goes back in a few weeks and I was all set to come off Motability altogether, but the Alfa has peaked my interest as I’ve rarely seen one on the roads.

Guys, are you aware that you don’t necessarily need to have it serviced at your local/supplying dealer?  Any Motability accredited centre can service your car.

Lovely looking car. I definitely need to seek one out to see it in person, though I suspect it’s too big for my needs.

Call from dealer yesterday, car delivered (they were surprised), pick up next Friday after just over a 5 month wait from order. Not too bad at all.

I visited the Cardiff showroom today to look at the Tonale. I really struggled to get in, because it’s fairly high and I’m quite short.

I managed it eventually and it is a lovely car, no question, but I was surprised by how difficult I found getting in because I’ve sat in numerous other SUV’s (eg T Cross, T Roc, DS 3 Crossback, Q2) with no issues. A real shame for me, as aside from that it looks great!

Hi Ksn, can you let me know how you got on, it’s one of the few cars on the scheme I like. Did you get the metallic colours included. Thinking of the blue, or the green, if possible and a pano roof, and winter pack. Coming from a bmw grand coupe, it’s a tough act to follow, especially at the AP I paid, reluctant to let it go. Cheers

Don’t understand why it’s only the ti model that’s on the scheme. The special edition is better equipped and is cheaper? It also has the paddle shift which I can’t understand is missing on the ti variant.

Phil, agree, it’s £650, just to add the red brake calipers!  All the models should be on. Classic case of rinsing motability customers, to shift the not too popular varients. Its an expensive car list price, but on sitting in one, found low grade plastics here and there. Still looking for the best head turner on the scheme, not a boxy suv, any ideas.

Totally agree. Pretty blatant what Alpha are trying to do and I wouldn’t be falling for it.

I’m waiting on what Cupra bring to the table. I’m hoping the Formentor may make an appearance with a decent AP, but it’ll be unlikely.

    Phil,

Looking at the Peugeot 408, and the mini john Cooper works premium plus as that adds a panoramic roof. The alfa is still at the top of the list for style wise. I am going to ask a motobility for a price for the gran coupe, it was invoiced at 24k, mine is white with red leather, optioned tinted windows. Looks fantastic. I wonder what they will come up with. Not holding my breath.  BTW. I am holding out to july quarter before pulling the trigger. Cupra looks cool.
