Thanks for the input, much appreciated, hopefully will fit the Dacia Sandero am getting in November
@kezo, hopefully November the 29th the day my lease ends , last time I spoke to the dealer car is on track to arrive in the UK, in October
Car are you able to test drive or get a ride in the i10 auto? I would highly recommend getting a test drive in a Dacia Sandero automatic, if it could fit in your parking space ?
Aygo X one off the smallest boots in its class and very cramped in back if need to carry passengers.
One thing put me off the Aygo it has the exact same engine as the very first one that came out in early 2000s
I am coming off the scheme this year , and was looking at the auto i10 and picanto which both have this box, i could not get a test drive in the auto as no one had one , but i spent a lot of researching on the web and on forums and I would say 75% of the people that drove that box said it was shocking although 25% really liked it, most people said it was slow to change gears and obviously slow to get to speed and you could feel every gear change thing that came up a bit was pulling off from roundabouts and standing starts there could be a slight delay in the box engaging, the AMT is the cheapest type ” automatic gearbox”
in the end I have bought a Dacia Sandero automatic, should arrive near the end of the year and was very surprised how smooth the CVT box is, given I am coming from a DSG box, also the ride was very comfortable in the Dacia , much more roomy than the Hyundai or Kia which on both of them I found the ride comfort pretty hard
are you thinking of getting this car on scheme or private, as much better cars on scheme than the i10 for no or little AP

i hope you find the info useful 🙂
Your first question LV do , this is the online chat i had with them last week
hi do you accept a RSA Motability (RSAM) claims history letter, as proof of NC?
( 2m 30s ) Chat Agent: We would accept this providing this shows the dates on cover, the name of the no claims discount holder, claims history and the company this is from.More info here
Have not sorted insurance yet as car will take 6 to 7 months, but nearer the time I will , prob LV as they accept claims history form for NC discount.
Which should take 2 to 3 days to arrive from RSA
So have placed my order for a new Dacia Sandero comfort automatic in white.
Dealer been very good so far , going to do rest of paper work on Monday.
The guy is a sales and motability expert there , so he will make sure the new car handover is done on the same day after I have handed over the motability vehicle, this allowing the no claims discount to be valid and tax exempt to put on the private vehicle.
Also agree to fit my adaptions for free (although simple to fit if your okay at DIY) which is an indicator extension and steering ball grip.
And gave £274 off the car , no othera dealership spoke to give anything off
So far very impressed with the dealership, and I have alll the above agreed to, in an email from them
thanks glos guy
Hi kezo never got to test drive the i10 was a nightmare, lied to by dealer on multiple things, got their no i10 auto to test drive, was a 3hr and half wasted round trip, have made a complaint to their head office , so will see what happens.
Having looked at both cars again , me and one of my friends was in agreement the Dacia is all round a much better car for me and the added bonus of been over £2000 cheaper on retail price.
Will be ordering next week just waiting on one dealer getting back to me.
Many thanks
Are you thinking of taking the car with its first year VED included and changing the vehicle class status to disabled later on.
I was, If i did the above would i get the remainder on the tax refunded once i changed the car to disabled?
What i was going to do as mentioned in previous post , hand the Motability car back on same day i collect new car , and have him tax the new car as disabled on that day, as at that point i would not have the disabled tax on the Motability car anymore as i have have handed it back due to end of lease .
Are both/either of the above scenarios okay to do ?
am i right in thinking what ever price i agree to buy the new car at as normally the car tax is included in this price, it should be the agreed price – the first year tax
last line mean to say
..tax is included in this agreed price, it should be, the agreed price minus the first year tax?
am i right in thinking what ever price i agree to buy the new car at as normally the car tax is included in this price, it should be the agreed price – the first year tax
Thanks kezo so apart from making the dealership aware of entitlement, the way I hope to do things as I described above , should all be okay ? Many thanks for your time ?
Looking for a bit more help please guys
So as the dealers are Motability I am going to make sure i hand the Motability car in ( 30 Nov 22) at the same time i pick new car up.
My thinking is, that way, i can make sure my no claims is valid on the new car, as LV told me, can not still be the holder of the Motability vehicle, whilst applying your NC to private vehicle insurance , so if i hand it back then take me own new car that sorts that out.
Question , do i have to take the letter of entitlement at point of vehicle order for free tax ? ( have not rang for one yet and likely ordering car at weekend) or can i provide this later down the line , and will the dealer be able to apply the free tax , to the new car, the day i hand back the Motability car back, therefore as above with the insurance , making sure only on one vehicle ?
Sorry if its a bit long winded, just never been down this path of owning a car before and want to make sure i get it all correct.
many thanks for everyone’s help and time 🙂
Click the link below (from the above linked document posted Huffpuffin)
@Huffpuffin i assume you rang PIP to get your certificate on the number , in the document above ?Just to update here (may help others) having spoken by phone and chat to Motability
If buying private new/used car and you get it before Motability car handed back you pay the vehicle tax , but once handed back you can claim remaining months back , when you change the cars tax status to disabled with your Certificate of Entitlement
Claims Letters
“Claims History Letter can be sent at any point in your lease and doesn’t have to be at the end” only full years with be on the letter.
so the Certificate of Entitlement is different to your award letter, as it is purely needed to get the free tax, after doing it at the post office for the first time (don’t let them stamp), can be done online each year thereafter ?
Thanks for the input.
I assume if i do nothing and pay the first year tax as its included in the car sale price , when it comes to taxing the car for its second year, be a much more simpler process, or once i have sent the mobility car back , could i get a refund on the remaining 12 months ( as the likely hood is, i will have new car a few weeks before mobility car due back ) of the new car ? or
Am 90% sure its going to be the Dacia Sandero Comfort , but the dealer has 1.2 auto in Hyundai i10 to test drive , and will do me just over £1500 offer a new Hyundai i10 1.2 auto premium , good thing is the dealer group sell both Dacia and Hyundai , and are willing to to a deal ( money off both ) every other Dacia dealer will not take a penny off given the current global circumstances,
Am going at the weekend, so will post back with what i went for
As I am likely to come of the scheme, the cars i am interested in purchasing Kia picanto ,Hyundai i10 ,and Dacia Sandero , told 8 to 10 weeks for picanto , 8 to 12 weeks i10, Dacia 4 to 6 months , but most coming nearer 4
I will do, as crazy as bit sounds it’s cheaper to buy new than nearly new , so going to be going down that route
Hi kezo thanks for your input, very much sound advice ?
Ajn talking to mobility frontline customer service, and then raising an official complaint, and go through the complaints process , can give two very different outcomes
Kezo assume it was the 1.0l 66bhp AMT automatic box?, yes managed to test drive the Sandero comfort automatic yesterday, thought the driver is very comfy and the auto box silky smooth.
At the moment it’s nearly impossible to get hold of Hyundai i10 or Kia picanto in automatic test drive, I prefer i10 looks and better quality cabin interior to the Dacia.
Having said that my choice is between the Dacia Sandero and the i10
ajn, I would go raise a complaint with Motability
