AnonymousWhen leasing a car through the Motability Scheme you do not accrue a personal no-claims bonus. However, for the majority of customers, RSA Mobility (RSAM) provide a letter that you can send to your new insurer. Many insurers accept this as proof of your claims history.
April 30, 2019 at 10:58 am #75828See enclosed copy of my “Good Driver” letter when I had to temporary leave Motability in 2017 for your information.
Names have been withheld to protect the innocent and note the maximum NCB you can get is 5 years.
This letter was accepted by Liverpool & Victoria car insurers.
Mods, I don’t think there’s any copyright
issues with this letter but if there is please take it down.
April 30, 2019 at 11:43 am #75833That’s fine Chrisk I’m sure they will be fine with a bit of free advertising thanks for the info. And your right I had company vehicle for some years and when I wanted to insure a private car I got a letter from my company stating my clear driving history and then as a gesture the insure company at that time upon receipt of the letter gave me 3 years no claims discount.

PhiljbThar was the main thing that worried me is I want from 2 cars with over 40 years no claims each to the scheme?
But the way thing are looking I’m going to be on the scheme along while. Maybe even see out my driving days?

AnonymousWhen I gave mine back 20 years ago I got myself a classic car and you don’t get a no claims discount on the insurance so didn’t need one.
May 1, 2019 at 1:12 pm #75918The maximum no claims any company actually gives you, irrelevant of how they word it or even how many more no claims you have, they only give you 9 years. 9 years is thier sweet spot, once you get to the full 9 then it’s best to pay the extra for protected no claims.

FootlooseIs it really fair that someone in receipt of a Motability vehicle over many years should have a reduced GCB as opposed to those driving a privately purchased vehicle even though the disabled driver has driven with no accidents or incidents over the same period say for over ten years?

RayDear all…I’ve checked all the answers but still have a question; will I lose my personal NCD that I’ve accumulate over the years before the motability.? Appreciate any response..!

In short, yes you will lose your personal NCD.
However, if you do eventually come off the scheme, RSA Motability (and presumably Direct Line when they take over), do issue a letter stating you have been on the Motability scheme for xx years and have not made any claims (providing you haven’t of course)! The letter is the one posted up thread.
Some UK insurers will accept this letter as proof of no claims and give you a corresponding NCD.

Hi can you name any of these UK insurers that will accept this letter as proof of no claims and give you a corresponding NCD ? as I have so far drawn a blank thanks.[/quote]

Well, when I left the scheme last year, my local branch of NFU Insurance accepted the letter without any query what-so-ever. The letter showed 9 years on the scheme without a claim and on my Insurance Schedule it shows 9 years no claims discount. The discount was accordingly applied to the policy cost.
From reading other older posts on this forum from others who have left the scheme, the following have accepted Motability/RSA evidence for the NCD – you may have to telephone them though:
LV & Direct Line
Swiftcover & Axa
Why do we put up with losing our NCB???? Can't we do anything about this????
There are probably more examples – search the forum!

JohnMotobility is a very helpful company. Very understanding when my wife died.
They very kindly gave me a letter stating that I had no claim’s in the last three years.
All insurance companies I approached would accept this.
BUT insurance companies will not accept any no claims discount from a previous company, if it is over two years old. (Motobility deal’s are usually taken out over a three year period.
This two year rule is very strictly applied. Our Motobility car was returned after two year’s and two month’s.
No insurer would accept my previous NCD, and believe me I tried.
Everybody taking out a Motobility vehicle should be aware of this.
I have gone from 9yrs down to two years and has cost me £100’s
John.

GeeIn a fair world accident free driving whether in one’s own car or a Motability car is all the proof any insurance company should ever really need to determine risk going forward.
Prang your own car and insurance companies will rightly penalise you with loss of NCD and higher future insurance quotes.
Prang a Motability vehicle but then leave the scheme and insurance companies will still want all the details of said Motability prang so that they can adjust your future insurance quotes accordingly (which of course means upwards).
And the WINNERS are insurance companies!

Roger WikcoThe NCB is the same for all company lease insurances.
They have a general cover for all lease xars, nit individual insurances.
Having many company cars, I have not had any ncb even though I paid towards the monthly cost.
If you are concerned about losing your ncb and you think it’s financially better for you, buy a small car and insure that, even if you are nit going to drive it, but quite frankly, the NCB us not worth the hassle
