Call from dealer yesterday, car delivered (they were surprised), pick up next Friday after just over a 5 month wait from order. Not too bad at all.

        @Phil

Got quoted 5 to 6 months, although did call me and offered me a white one in build that was a cancellation- decided to wait for the colour I want.

          T.O.M.

You are correct, I did everything online on my account and it gave me the same message. I went to my local Alfa dealership (Cardiff) and they were great. Went in on the Saturday and had a quick look, couldn’t do a test drive that day as no available staff but booked in for test drive the Monday after – let me go out by myself for a good 30 min test drive. Came back and said yes I want it, I have completed my application online. No problem, asked for my NI number, tapped it in, yes all details there, just need to confirm drivers are correct and what colour you want….. done.

Sorry you haven’t had the same experience but I would suggest your dealer doesn’t know what they are talking about.

I have issues driving any car whose name could be pronounced “Toe Nail” Especially if in Alfa style it breaks down a lot. Then it would be a manky toe nail ?

Reliability studies over last few years suggest Alfa is no worse or even better than the German brands like BMW and Audi.

As for the name …. before my BMW I had the Ford Focus ST estate diesel on the scheme….. my brother decided to name it the STD……   So could be worse LOL

I’m 5’10” and it felt ok, seemed like plenty of height adjustment in the drivers seat. Rear legroom looked good.

Well, I test drove yesterday and ordered in Red. Not perfect, slower and not as smooth as my current BMW X1 2.oD Sport by a long way and although interior is very stylish the build quality is nowhere near the same. I don’t need heated seats so options prices don’t really affect me – but I agree the pricing of options is bonkers. Only disappointment is privacy glass is not standard on the Ti and is not an option.

The AP of £3999 is steep but I think that is the sign of the times, I know I could get more tech / spec for less with Seat or Skoda (Ateca / Karoq) but if I’m honest I let my heart rule my head a bit……. I’ve always wanted an Alfa and think it looks great in the flesh! The spec level is above my current BMW – over and above include front sensors, rear camera, adaptive cruise control, digital dash…. so I don’t feel that short changed. 5 to 6 month lead time apparently…….. we will see.

Thanks all for the comments, giving a Hyundai a try is not a bad idea at all!

Amazing how you get used to more powerful cars overtime, I remember when  0-60 under 10 secs was considered a hot hatch! And 150 bhp was sports car territory.

@KSN One thing to consider is – Do you often press your right foot fully to the floor in your BMW? If you seem to get enough power without flooring it, then the mild hybrid may be powerful enough, you just might need to “give it more gas” than you usually do. If you often press your foot to the floor in the BMW, then the MHEV Sportage would likely feel underpowered. If I wasn’t keeping my golf, I wouldn’t have ordered the MHEV (without a test drive) as I do like to drive “lively” on occasion.

                    Hi Gilders

I don’t “floor” it often but I really like to know I have the “oomph” there when I want it. You are probably right, in my day to day driving I probably wouldn’t notice but once you are used to a certain level of performance it tends to feel normal.

I agree I wouldn’t order without a test drive…… getting a test drive of that engine though seems to be nigh on impossible!

                    Cheers

HammerHead thanks for your reply, appreciated.

Points regarding larger wheels and 4WD etc noted, cheers.

The power of the HEV is 226 bhp compared to the 148 bhp for the mild hybrid, the HEV infills power and torque – 0-60 7.8 secs  compared to 9.4 secs. Respect that it may not feel that much difference when running on petrol engine but the difference in performance is significant so from a driving perspective the mild hybrid must feel slower surely?

Hello all – long time reader first time poster.

Please can anyone advise if they have actually driven the new Sportage with the mild hybrid 1.6 petrol engine? Every Kia dealership only seem to have the HEV as a demonstrator…… ironically the one we can’t order now…..

I like many I’m sure were about to order the HEV full (non plug in) but it was removed. I currently have a BMW X1 2.oD (187 bhp) which I have extended for 2 years, before that had the Focus ST TDCI estate (186 bhp)……. just not sure if a 148bhp petrol will feel underpowered? Thought or opinions welcome.

                        Thanks
