December 22, 2023 at 10:34 pm in reply to: Motability EV Emails – Can someone explain this please? #252106In order to try to increase my knowledge of all things EV related (which is not difficult) I have subscribed to the weekly emails that Motability provide over 6 weeks. This weeks email is about charging costs. I was surprised to read that average cost per mile if you rely on fast chargers or rapid chargers is more than running a petrol car but, that aside, I am confused by the equation that they show to calculate how much it would cost to charge an EV. They state that to work out how much it will cost to charge your car you perform the following calculation;
My home electricity costs 26.85 pence per kWh. If I take the BMW iX1 as an example, it has a 150kwh battery. So that is 26.85p x 150 (=£40.27) divided by 100 equals 40.27 pence to fully charge the vehicle. Clearly nonsense, so what am I doing wrong?
The battery usable capacity is 64.7 kWh. 150 is the power of the iX1 30
26.85 x. 64.7 divide by 100 = £17.37
Hope that helps
December 8, 2023 at 5:31 pm in reply to: BMW iX4 Tech Pack available to order again, will they add Tech Pack to iX1? #251170The iX1 doesn’t even come with power folding mirrors as standard on a car at £45k plus.
I couldn’t believe it.
You need to add the Tech Pack just to have folding mirrors, a luxury I know, it need them for access in to garage.
@Debs I’m amazed that they’ve deleted power fold mirrors. That’s really poor. I had the more powerful iX1 30e for a day and have to say that I didn’t like it anywhere near as much as our current (2021) 2.0i petrol X1. I’ve had loads of BMWs and love them, but in some respects I think they are going backwards in quite a few areas. I didn’t find the latest iDrive to be as user friendly as the version we have. The removal of the rotary controller and favourites buttons (both of which I use all the time) is just plain stupid IMHO. They were both features that made BMWs iDrive class leading. In all honesty, the only improvement that I found over the previous version is the fact that they have now added AutoHold, which was a glaring omission on the previous version and remains the only thing that irritates me about our current car.
I agree with you, just trying to force us to purchase the packs at extra cost.
I didn’t realise the iDrive controller had been removed until I went for the test drive. A backward step definitely, everything is touch screen or voice activated on the iX1.
I must admit, the auto hold was brilliant. Not sure about the range though, I think BMW quote 270 miles approx. but it looked as if I was only returning about 210-220, but it was quite cold and I know this has an impact on range
A link for Debs. A very rare offer for you. Good luck. https://www.bristolstreet.co.uk/motability/hyundai/285676/hyundai-ioniq-5-168kw-ultimate-77-kwh-5dr-auto-tech-electric-hatchback/
Hi David
That’s really good deal, unfortunately the Ionic 5 is 1890mm with the mirrors folded in, too wide for my garage, 1850mm is the max I can go to unfortunately.
But thanks for taking the time to share
Hold fire the AP will drop for sure or a BMW insentive will be chucked in imo
I think that is probably what I will do.
I came off the scheme in June and handed my car back, so am ready to go as soon as there is a deal or some incentive.
I thought maybe the dealer would offer some incentive, particularly off the extras, but absolutely nothing on offer.
How times have changed
@Debs Has the dealer confirmed to you that the car definitely doesn’t have power fold mirrors as standard? BMW option pack descriptions can be misleading as, in some cases, they list items that are actually standard, or that are just slightly different. For example, the option pack states that it gives power fold mirrors with auto dimming. It may be the case that power fold mirrors are standard, but the option pack just adds the auto dimming feature. Power fold mirrors have been standard on most BMWs for years so it would be a massive retrograde step if they have removed them completely. Also, if they had I think they would have them as a stand alone option, as you won’t be alone in having to have them for parking. I’m not surprised that you preferred the drive of the iX1 over the Q4 and I agree with @Kezo that the interior of the Q4 doesn’t look up to usual Audi quality and IMHO the interior also looks a bit dated compared to the high tec iX1 (although I think I slightly prefer the Audi exterior), so whilst the Q4 could be an option for you, I’d make sure that the door mirror info is 100% correct before discounting the iX1.
Yes, I managed to find a car that was arriving in to stock in mid Dember, was all ready to go ahead. I had read all the specs and optional packs etc. I noticed the powered mirrors with auto dimming rear view mirror in the Tech Pack, and I thought this was just BMW upselling and the car would already have power folding mirrors.
Spoke to a local dealer and he confirmed it definitely does come with them.
Then I got a video from the supplying dealer and noticed there was no button to fold mirrors on the drivers door, just above the wing mirror adjustment buttons.
I fired off an email and just received the response, no power folding mirrors unless you upgrade to Tech pack at £1680.
So yes, it’s a definite NO
I have been looking at both the Q4 and IX1, preferring the IX1 M Sport, interior on the BMW far superior to the Audi in my opinion. Initially thought the 2 Msport models were because one was AWD, not the case, would only need the 22KWCh model if I had a 3 phase electricity supply, saving £500 on the AP.
Totally agree Coxy, the M Sport 11kwH would be ok for me and as you say, interior is really good. But will go out looking again at the other models that have been recommended.
Fingers crossed ?
Hi Debs, Unbelievable AP, can’t see the value to be honest. Your budget sounds your similar to myself. I would recommend the following to test: Audi Q4 45 etron in Geyser Blue. Kia EV6 in White. (I prefer this style to the Hyundai Ioniq 5) Hyundai Ioniq 5 in Shooting Star Grey colour for only an extra £ 200.00. (if you prefer the styling to the Kia EV6) Peugeot e 3008 (2024) in Obsession Blue. These cars all fantastic, it will ultimately come down to which one grabs your heartstrings no doubts. Hope this helps. Cheers.
Hi David
I have tried the Q4, but preferred the iX1 drive experience.
I am very limited in width in to my garage, max width with folded mirrors is 1850mm max, but deffo need folding mirrors and a front camera to help me line up with garage sides.
I know, that’s why I’m a blonde!

Debs.
Yes, I tried the Q4 and liked it, but enjoyed the iX1 drive more.
I might have to reconsider.
Thank you
Ended up intially ordering a Cupra Formentor, realised it was too small for my needs, and then ordered the AUDI Q4 45
How did you manage to order a Q4 45?
I spoke with Motability and they stated that the Q4 45 will become available on the scheme in the next 7-10 days. I stated that some people had ordered a Q4 40 and expected they would receive a 45, they advised this was not correct.
The AP for the new model 45 has not yet been agreed. Any orders for a 40 that could not be fulfilled by build week 44 at Audi will be cancelled or the build slot can be converted to a 45 on the scheme, but this will be subject to a revised application and the AP may well change.
I am wanting the 45 and eagerly awaiting it appearing on the scheme, fingers crossed the AP will be similar to the 40 or lower, fingers crossed. ?
Amanda,
If you are wanting a quick way to view cars available, I would use autotrader.
select the manufacturer and model that you are looking for, then select new vehicles only.
You can then sort the results via distance and approach those nearest to you with a vehicle available.
The only downside, not all dealers use autotrader, but many do.
Good luck with your search
October 5, 2023 at 12:27 pm in reply to: Howdy Audi Doooooo…. (in a cowboy voice swinging about, very important!!!!) #236559I love the Audi, but it is just a little bit too wide at 1865mm with mirrors folded for my garage.
My last car, Tiguan R Line Tech was 1839mm.
Fingers crossed the BMW iX1 comes on to the scheme, looks perfect for me.
I did look at the Jeep Avenger, it was nice but the finish was rather bland and lots of hard scratchy plastic trims.
It’s good that there is so much choice on the scheme, we all have such different requirements and likes ?

If only I had scrolled down further first.
35 minutes of my life gone??
Yes, the level of regen braking can be adjusted, some like the one pedal driving, others prefer the use of traditional braking, at least we have a choice.
That is a really good deal, as long as the Ioniq 5 suits your requirements
