Recently had a test drive of a iX1.
Loved it. Easy to get in and out of.
Very easy to drive.
Spacious
Power boot
Reasonable delivery times, quoted March 24
Was ready to place the order for iX1 20 M Sport
Portimao Blue and Sun Protection Glass
Massive AP, over £5,800, but thought I would keep it for 4-5 years.
Was just about to push the button, then realised.
A vehicle with a £45,000 list price and it doesn’t even come with power folding mirrors.
Honestly, couldn’t believe it, I need those for going in and out of the garage where the charger is.
BMW wanted another £1680 for the Tech Pack.
Almost £7.5k advance payment, wow.
What do others think?

MaskyHave you tried the Audi Q4? Believe it has folding mirrors as standard and has more power, better range, lower AP than the BMW iX1. Haven’t driven the iX1 but I’ve got the petrol X1 currently and would say when I test drove the q4 it felt a lot more comfortable to drive than the X1 but the interior did feel slightly more cramped compared to my X1 but overall the Q4 is on paper supposed to be a larger car.

DavidHi Debs,
Unbelievable AP, can’t see the value to be honest.
Your budget sounds your similar to myself.
I would recommend the following to test:
Audi Q4 45 etron in Geyser Blue.
Kia EV6 in White. (I prefer this style to the Hyundai Ioniq 5)
Hyundai Ioniq 5 in Shooting Star Grey colour for only an extra £ 200.00. (if you prefer the styling to the Kia EV6)
Peugeot e 3008 (2024) in Obsession Blue. These cars all fantastic, it will ultimately come down to which one grabs your heartstrings no doubts. Hope this helps. Cheers.
November 22, 2023 at 2:32 pm #249399Yes, I tried the Q4 and liked it, but enjoyed the iX1 drive more.
I might have to reconsider.
Thank you

Hi David
I have tried the Q4, but preferred the iX1 drive experience.
I am very limited in width in to my garage, max width with folded mirrors is 1850mm max, but deffo need folding mirrors and a front camera to help me line up with garage sides.
I know, that’s why I’m a blonde!

November 22, 2023 at 2:45 pm #249404I want folding mirrors as when locked I can see they are closed from the bay window of my mansion
November 22, 2023 at 3:26 pm #249412I was happy to see the ix1 join the scheme, but then saw it was only the edrive20 base model, so haven’t bothered to go for a test drive, as with typical premium German cars, the cost for options can be expensive, just to include what others vehicles have as standard.
Interestingly BMW have offered no option packs as standard, as they did on the i4.
There are other electric cars on the scheme from both Hyundai and Kia that have all the gadgets you wish as standard, some even come with heatpump as standard.
The Audi Q4 I believe comes with power folding mirrors as standard however it is below typical Audi quality imo.

DavidHi Debs,
I’ve test drove the Audi Q4 40 version, which was most probably what you test drove too.
Audi only introduced the 45 version on the 01 October.
The 45 version now comes with dynamic suspension across ALL the models, the 0 – 60 has dropped massively took, from 8.5 seconds to 6.7 seconds, and the mileage to a full charge, is 10 – 80% in just 28 mins, and the mileage is a realistic 321 miles, although they are claiming 339 miles.
The dynamic suspension is the massive one. The ride will be night and day different from the 40 version I tested.
Would imagine the Audi Q4 45 version will be available to test drive shortly. Maybe, if your in no particular rush, hole on another month, and by then, your local Audi dealer should have one for you to test. Hope this helps.

DavidHi Debs,
Found this for you.

glad to be of help young Debra

CoxyI have been looking at both the Q4 and IX1, preferring the IX1 M Sport, interior on the BMW far superior to the Audi in my opinion. Initially thought the 2 Msport models were because one was AWD, not the case, would only need the 22KWCh model if I had a 3 phase electricity supply, saving £500 on the AP.

Totally agree Coxy, the M Sport 11kwH would be ok for me and as you say, interior is really good. But will go out looking again at the other models that have been recommended.
Fingers crossed ?
November 22, 2023 at 4:15 pm #249442@David, Audi’s term for the standard suspension is “Dynamic”, as opposed to Sport suspension which is lowered and firmer.
There’s also the option of Adaptive dampers, which I would imagine is a fairly expensive option.
Wouldn’t want you to think you were getting anything new or improved on the 45.

Not entirely the case! If you live in area’s where towns have 7 -22kW AC public chargers there is a benifit especially if you can’t charge at home or you regularly visit these area’s. 🙂
November 22, 2023 at 4:23 pm #249449@Debs Has the dealer confirmed to you that the car definitely doesn’t have power fold mirrors as standard? BMW option pack descriptions can be misleading as, in some cases, they list items that are actually standard, or that are just slightly different. For example, the option pack states that it gives power fold mirrors with auto dimming. It may be the case that power fold mirrors are standard, but the option pack just adds the auto dimming feature. Power fold mirrors have been standard on most BMWs for years so it would be a massive retrograde step if they have removed them completely. Also, if they had I think they would have them as a stand alone option, as you won’t be alone in having to have them for parking.
I’m not surprised that you preferred the drive of the iX1 over the Q4 and I agree with @Kezo that the interior of the Q4 doesn’t look up to usual Audi quality and IMHO the interior also looks a bit dated compared to the high tec iX1 (although I think I slightly prefer the Audi exterior), so whilst the Q4 could be an option for you, I’d make sure that the door mirror info is 100% correct before discounting the iX1.

MaskyThe q4 45 does have retuned suspension compared to the old 40 model. Claimed to be more comfortable and more fun to drive than before but not exactly dynamic. You’d only get dynamic suspension if you have the adaptive dampers.
November 22, 2023 at 5:18 pm #249471
DavidFair enough, I stand corrected.
There not a plethora of reviews as yet for the new 2024 version, mostly Australian reviews , although the reviews I have watched, they seem to make a big deal about how improved the new suspension feels, and don’t remember hearing adaptive dampers being mentioned, although I know VW as a group can charge an arm and a leg for this, with models right across the group.
I’ll find out when I receive the car whether it’s all hot air, or if the retuned suspension has done the trick. Time will tell.

Yes, I managed to find a car that was arriving in to stock in mid Dember, was all ready to go ahead. I had read all the specs and optional packs etc. I noticed the powered mirrors with auto dimming rear view mirror in the Tech Pack, and I thought this was just BMW upselling and the car would already have power folding mirrors.
Spoke to a local dealer and he confirmed it definitely does come with them.
Then I got a video from the supplying dealer and noticed there was no button to fold mirrors on the drivers door, just above the wing mirror adjustment buttons.
I fired off an email and just received the response, no power folding mirrors unless you upgrade to Tech pack at £1680.
So yes, it’s a definite NO
November 22, 2023 at 5:45 pm #249480Walk away plenty have folding mirrors as standard
November 22, 2023 at 5:57 pm #249489Hold fire the AP will drop for sure or a BMW insentive will be chucked in imo
November 22, 2023 at 6:03 pm #249492Hold fire the AP will drop for sure or a BMW insentive will be chucked in imo
I think that is probably what I will do.
I came off the scheme in June and handed my car back, so am ready to go as soon as there is a deal or some incentive.
I thought maybe the dealer would offer some incentive, particularly off the extras, but absolutely nothing on offer.
How times have changed

DavidJust a wee mention for Bristol Street Motors, branches all over England, and called Macklin Motors instead, up here in Scotland.
They are doing this deal at the moment, where as well as the govt £ 750.00 contribution, they add another £ 750.oo contriubution taking £ 1500.00 off the advance payment on the Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate (tech pack). If you end up going for this car, a good start, and the price include’s the tech pack too. Result.

DavidA link for Debs. A very rare offer for you. Good luck.
November 22, 2023 at 9:56 pm #249551@Debs I’m amazed that they’ve deleted power fold mirrors. That’s really poor. I had the more powerful iX1 30e for a day and have to say that I didn’t like it anywhere near as much as our current (2021) 2.0i petrol X1. I’ve had loads of BMWs and love them, but in some respects I think they are going backwards in quite a few areas. I didn’t find the latest iDrive to be as user friendly as the version we have. The removal of the rotary controller and favourites buttons (both of which I use all the time) is just plain stupid IMHO. They were both features that made BMWs iDrive class leading. In all honesty, the only improvement that I found over the previous version is the fact that they have now added AutoHold, which was a glaring omission on the previous version and remains the only thing that irritates me about our current car.
November 22, 2023 at 10:27 pm #249558I dunno what planet these dealers and Motability are on, 5k deposit for a car you’ll never own.
mind bogglin

Hi David
That’s really good deal, unfortunately the Ionic 5 is 1890mm with the mirrors folded in, too wide for my garage, 1850mm is the max I can go to unfortunately.
But thanks for taking the time to share
