As suggested get advice from a benefits advisor.

There will be a few people on the Forum who have been at the mercy of DWP decisions through changes in their circumstances. Hope fully they will give some input.

This is one – Going into a carehome.

      https://www.turn2us.org.uk/Benefit-guides/Care-homes-and-benefits/Benefits-that-stop-being-paid-if-you-live-in-a-car#guide-content

If your care home fees are paid in full or part by the local authority, National Health Service (NHS) or other public funds, payment of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) care component, Personal Independence Payment (PIP) daily living component, Adult Disability Payment (ADP) daily living component or Attendance Allowance (AA) will stop after you have been in a care home for 28 days.

It is different if its a Respite Home or Centre, there is a DS1500 form if the recipient is not expected to live beyond a year, and requres a form from a doctor.

Anything to do with the DWP, and Benefits is a minefield….seek professional advice.

        @Ricky

I was looking at a car at the dealers. They said the wait time depended on the colour. Some very popular colours took longer than others.

Other people have seen different delays depending on trim level, whether its an auto or manual.

But from other posts, it seems that Vauxhaul have the longest wait times of any manufacturer.

It may very well affect his benefits, PIP and therefore his motability.

I do know the DWP must be informed if you have a stay in hospital, even for a day l as it does affect your benefits , I would guess being in a carehome is similar situation.

But you must take advice from a benefits advisor, or Citizens Advice. Try your local Maggies centre.

We have a really good advisor at our local Maggies Centre and knows the system inside out.

Mike, do not get taken in by the EV range nonsense.  Unless you are doing 250 miles\day it is meaningless.

My Pug 2008 and the ID.5 both have about 300 miles in a tank.  Both cars will have the climate control set at the same level. If the heated seats or steering wheel need switched on…they will be. If it needs heated up on a cold morning…it will be.

My trips are always local, so I will be lucky if I am charging the EV once…maybe twice a week.

But the old rule still applies.

To fill up an EV at home costs about a fiver.

To fill up with petrol costs £60.

Unless you are using the car as an Uber driver, there is no range anxiety. The only thing I will do differently, if doing a long trip is planning my route better. The car or any number of apps will do that for me anyway.

What I will do is set up my phone with the software and account for the BP charger, or whatever there is out there.

I f I do need to take a long trip its there.   Tesla are already converting their superchargers for other EV’s, in 6 months it will be very different.

            There is no range anxiety…..

If I do run out of juice, I will do the same as an ICE vehicle and phone the RAC.

Its on the scheme as the resale value after 3 years will be quite high.

I doubt there will be ICE BMW’s  added as Motability are encouraging everyone to go EV.

Accidents happen, It wont have any effect, you are still insured, even if it is your fault.

Don’t overthink it. Let due process play out, contact motability, they will tell you what you need to do.

When its repaired it will be as good as new and no effect on handback

                .

It doesnt look too bad, more than likely it will be repaired, you should get a loaner until its repaired.

Your post is incorrect in so many ways.

Yes, the post headline is controversial, but it gets people attention.  It is quite successful, as it is asking a question!!

The obvious elephant in the room is – yes,  politicians CAN and DO tell you what to do – by writing it into the statute book and making it LAW.

You DO NOT have a choice, the technical compelling reasons are – IT IS THE LAW.  (I’m not shouting , just getting a few key words noticed…lol..)

It doesn matter WHICH party is in power, it is where the country is heading – renewable energy!

Yes, that was a good result in the by-elections. they did not keep their one seat becasue of EV’s as you suggested.

Not a whitewash, its enough to give the Tories false HOPE.

It is a good thing, as they will be destroyed in the next general election.

The World will be a very different place in 3 years time. Yes currently EV stuff is in its infancy, its not great, but it will improve.

Just enjoy your new car, you never know what is around the corner…

Mike – you are doing THEM a favour by picking their car for a test drive.  Take your time and give it a thorough going over. Pick an empty car park and test reverse parking just to make sure it is something you can do comfortably.  I have no doubt you will struggle to find faults with the Niro.

As I’ve said before, I have taken a few cars out on test drives, and they all had varying degrees of faults that didnt suit me.  But when I droe the ID.5 it ticked all the major boxes, so so easy to drive and comfortable the minute you move off.

Like yourself, If a car jostles my insides going over bumps, it puts me out of action for 4 days and in agony.

My Brother has a Kia Rio and its suspension is very very hard, I just cannot go in it.  I realise that other Kia’s are not so harsh, but it kinda puts me off the brand if you know what I mean?

Anyway Mike – test drive as much cars as you can.   Try save up some money if you can, it increases your choice.   That is what I did over the past few months, put a little away when I could.

Enjoy the drive and dont stress….

Mike, I usually take as long as I need. It is usually an hour or so for me.

I take the car home and reverse up my drive, to see if it fits primarily and see what the mirrors are like.

Then take it around a few speed bumps to see how it copes, and then park up at a kerb to see what tis liek getting in and out.

The mirrrors thing…caught me out with the Pug 2008. Its mirrors are quite small and not very good.

I would guess, take as long as you need, dont overthink it, just enjoy the drive.

I’ve taken the cars home, had a coffee and went out again.

A lot of people are on their Summer holidays.

If there is a already shortage of delivery drivers, this will be exacerbated during the summer.

A few days ago I pooped into a garage it sells Renault, Hyundai, Vauxhaul and Dacia.

I Hyundai Kona rolled off the transporter and there were 3 members of staff ready to unwrap it as soon as the wheels stoppped turning.  It was going right into the showroom.

Given the history of your vehicle orders, I reckon they are playing safe.

At the end of the day, you dont want to put down a deposit – just move to another dealer.

The ID.4/5 and the Enyaq are essentially the same car from the VW group.

They both share the same underpinnings, and both drive very very well, share the same infotainment screens.

Both are stylised to suit their respective brand…but essentially the same car.

But we can only pick what is available when lease renewal time comes along.

The availability and wait times are upside down, and the dealership are in the dark as much as us.

There is no consistency when ordering nowadays, the car you order can be very different than what you get.

You can only pick from what is available, it can all change in week, as cars are taken off the scheme or added.

I will believe it when I see it…. an ID.5 with my name on it and a set of keys in my grubby little hands….lol

Good man. You could only resolve the conflict by sitting down and discussing it calmy. Not over a phone.

You should and did find how more compliant when you go to their showroom and discuss matters.

To be honest, it is very rare to get cought in a hailstorm, and in any car it would be feafinging and very disconcerting.

what matters most is everyday driving – if its good at that, then its a good ‘un.

Just keep trying the cars Mike, you will get one that fits your needs.

I found it really wierd, I didnt like the ID.5 because its press and price….. But when you sit in one its like the Tardis, big on the inside. I still wasnt sure about it, I had planned on visiting VW and having a look at the MG garage next to it.

But the VW guy just handed me the keys and off I went.  It is a boring car, not as quick as the Megane….but it drives beautifully and the ride height is high, once I jacked the seat up. It is calm and silent and so easy to drive.  When I got back to the dealers,

I knew this was perfect ticked all the boxes for comfort…320 miles claimed range  for AP £1500 (after cashback or CO-OP Divi….lol).

I dont think the ID.5 will be on the scheme for very long.

Who knows what happens next quarter, the AP’s are upside down!

A good discussion is always beneficialm there are very many different viewpoints.

But I reckon I got the headline correct.

None of us has ever seen such change, away from Hydrocarbons and on to renewable energy.

I dont think you all realise its a one way street. Certainly there is NO going back.

But, I will say this. See where the price of petrol goes in 6 months.

Currently, the whole World is economically upside down. Already OPEC+ have cut oil production twice in the past couple of months.

They are squeezing the Western Developed Economies.

                                        Intersting times indeed!

As I said – what value will an ICE have in a few years?

Nearly every Govt do this…rather than ban something, they will tax the living daylights out of it.

As they doing now – expanding the ULEZ zones so you cannot drive them anywhere….lol. To be fair it is the local Govt that wants everyone out of cars.   They dont like spending cash on roads….lol.

Yes, the keycard is excellent it wont wear holes in yor pocket.  It stays in your pocket and the door handles pop out when you approach the car. Also leaving it self locks.  There are 2 small buttons on the back of the card for lock\unlock.  I guess you wil not need them.

The test car was a Techno, and it does have folding mirrors when you walk away and it locks.

I always jack the seat up when I get it in, usually as high as possible. It is not too bad for getting in and out, and I loved it.  I only noticed the seat difference and ride height when I got back to the 2008.

If I had not stepped back in to the 2008 – I would have said it was a good driving position in the Megane.

I stopped at a few places with kerbs and got out no problem.

You will only know if its for you when you go for a drive.

I may be able to get in and out of the Megane NOW….but give it 6 months or a year it may be very diffferent.

Health issues generally get worse rather than improving.

It’s true, until you actually drive the cars, you dont know if they are for you or not.

when lookinhg at the Enyaq, I thought – that would be an excellent car if you had 2 large dogs.

Not many cars have that capability.

But good you got the a car that ticks everything on your tick-list.

When I saw the ID.5 on the list – I thought it was a normal saloon car and unsuitable. I had that

preconception about it. When I managed to have a sit in the car in a showroom last week, I was surprised,

it is more SUV like.   Then I had a drive today and it is ideal. Yes, the dash is behind the times and other cars are killing it.

But none of the other cars I drove, were as good as the ID.5.  It is like an SUV.

A couple of months ago – I saw a car pulling out of Asdas, and I thought – ‘Is that a hearse, who died’?

I just caught a glimpse of rhe back and saw it was an Enya, and a Vauxhall badge.

I was wrong, it was the Skoda Enyaq, and it looked horrendous.  If I remember correctly I took out the

configurator and it was quite basic and you had to buy trim packs to get it somewhere near acceptable.

I have never had a Skoda, but they always seem to be behind the design curve.

But yes, I did have a look especially when someone posted a couple of weeks back about stock they had in the country.

But, nope – it is NOT the car for me. its Fugly.
