Chris Toussaint-BodenWe are not especially fussed about the make of car, we just have a requirement for something medium sized. We have contacted a number of dealers all of whom are quoting a minimum of 6 month delivery. Are there any dealers north of the border offering vehicles for quick delivery or is a long wait the only option?

Who knows right now, Guess you’d have to be really lucky.
I did buy a car recently and left the scheme although I’m south of the border in the midlands, almost Yorkshire and had to travel to Dudley to get it but in 4 weeks. which was better than the 5/6 month wait i was told for one on the scheme or longer on others some have been waiting a year or even 2 now for cars and some just haven’t arrived and been cancelled or users have cancelled after specs have changed. Maybe widening your search may help if you can travel to pick it up and as you say you flexable as long as it’s not small.

Chris Toussaint-BodenThank-you for replying. Interestingly I was speaking to a dealer some 200 miles away who stated that they were only allowed to supply within a narrow radius catchment area. I shall continue trying however!

Never heard that one before, I know some users have travelled large distances in the past to get a discount on the ap, there’s not many deals on ap’s right now at all, all are pretty much in the far far south.

Maybe there might be some spare nissian Qashqai’s but manual’s as 2 dealers are offering a small discount if you order before sept, you didn’t say if you need an auto or not, but might be worth trying closer Nissan dealers to you and asking. Guess also it depends on what sort of ap you can afford.
I’m guess you don’t curently have a car on the scheme. my 1st car on the scheme was a Qashqai back in 2011.

Chris Toussaint-BodenInteresting. We’re not after a discount on the ap and are happy with an ap of £1000. What is interesting is that three dealers I’ve spoken to have certain models available for immediate retail sale but will not offer these to motability customers. Down to profits I guess.
August 1, 2022 at 8:59 pm #192610Totally, In ordinary times they’d maybe let us have them on the scheme, but right now they have bought them to sell retail and selling to mb they make a set amount which is set buy the manufacturer not them.
The reason i mentioned ap discount’s being offered is right now they seem to be on cars they maybe have excess in factory builds not allocated to anyone at the manufacturer but they’ve been added to the factory production line as slot was open, certain specs and colours only.
At the start of this quarter ford listed a few focus’s that was stock cars only, all gone now as they not listed on the mb search. if any new cars was to come on the list they would be added here.
might be worth checking that daily till you find something or order something.
I guess you could order something and if you find something sooner you could cancel that order and get the one you can get sooner, that now they have in stock and will let go of to you via the scheme.
Other option is to buy something privately like i did.

steveHave a look at some of the main brands websites many of which have car availability checkers e.g https://www.audi.co.uk/uk/web/en/new-car-search.html
Also it is worth calling dealers, quite often they will have the odd car available

steveAh missed it was a WAV
When I was looking for a van a few years ago, I was surprised how cheap many of the WAV’s were and in superb condition compared to vans of the same age.

DaveIf dealers are holding back cars for private buyers and not releasing them for Motability purposes is this discriminatory behaviour ? Surely this needs looking into.
July 20, 2023 at 7:17 pm #227399Just travelled 250 miles to pick up a stock Audi A3. Hereford Audi treated us fantastically, wrapped car ready for handover, sales manager joined us and threw in an Audi baseball cap. I really cannot speak highly enough for the way we were treated.
July 20, 2023 at 7:20 pm #227400@Dave
Not again.
There’s no discrimination at work here, purely business.
In times of severe shortages and long lead times, of course dealers are going to favour private buyers above lease customers as the profit margins are much higher.
Have you read the thread about the woman who forgot her PIN after the dealer tried to help by delivering the car to her home?
No wonder Motability customers have a bad name in certain parts of the motor trade.

July 21, 2023 at 9:06 am #227421They must have stock in the country.
It will take longer than 4 weeks to transport them from Korea, and another 4 weeks from Tilbury or whatever port they are offloaded at….lol.
July 21, 2023 at 9:10 am #227422Berty re your test drive in the Megan techno etec did you raise the seat did it make it much higher ? Also the Renault key card do you insert that to start the car or do you keep it in pocket like keyless ? I will have test drive in this before order November

Keycard stays in your pocket, not sure about seat height.
July 21, 2023 at 10:37 am #227433Yes, the keycard is excellent it wont wear holes in yor pocket. It stays in your pocket and the door handles pop out when you approach the car. Also leaving it self locks. There are 2 small buttons on the back of the card for lock\unlock. I guess you wil not need them.
The test car was a Techno, and it does have folding mirrors when you walk away and it locks.
I always jack the seat up when I get it in, usually as high as possible. It is not too bad for getting in and out, and I loved it. I only noticed the seat difference and ride height when I got back to the 2008.
If I had not stepped back in to the 2008 – I would have said it was a good driving position in the Megane.
I stopped at a few places with kerbs and got out no problem.
You will only know if its for you when you go for a drive.
I may be able to get in and out of the Megane NOW….but give it 6 months or a year it may be very diffferent.
Health issues generally get worse rather than improving.
July 21, 2023 at 10:46 am #227435Wonder why they don’t list the folding mirrors on the equipment list on the website ?
July 21, 2023 at 1:29 pm #227440
BertyThe Megane has the most modern tech and equipment I’ve seen on my test drives. It is so well specced I reckon they dont need to have the mirrors on the list.
I would be very wary of a car that DID NOT have self folding mirrors as standard, they would probably offer steel wheels as well.
July 21, 2023 at 1:52 pm #227466Well Berty I’m going to have a test drive before November and crank the seat up as high as it will go ! By the way love your ID5 looks fab in red I’ve saw the road tests on you tube will it be cheaper next quarter October ? A bit much for me at the moment but I’ve read VW Ev not selling well so who knows ?
July 21, 2023 at 3:00 pm #227474Just keep trying the cars Mike, you will get one that fits your needs.
I found it really wierd, I didnt like the ID.5 because its press and price….. But when you sit in one its like the Tardis, big on the inside. I still wasnt sure about it, I had planned on visiting VW and having a look at the MG garage next to it.
But the VW guy just handed me the keys and off I went. It is a boring car, not as quick as the Megane….but it drives beautifully and the ride height is high, once I jacked the seat up. It is calm and silent and so easy to drive. When I got back to the dealers,
I knew this was perfect ticked all the boxes for comfort…320 miles claimed range for AP £1500 (after cashback or CO-OP Divi….lol).
I dont think the ID.5 will be on the scheme for very long.
Who knows what happens next quarter, the AP’s are upside down!
