There are many questions members have about the motability scheme such as :-
Can I extend my lease?
Can I change my car before my contract is up and if so will it cost me anything?
How much is the GCB and will I get it if I have a few scratches?
What happens if I lose PIP?
If you have any questions about motability, then this is the place to come. We have many knowledgeable members only to willing to give advice. Many of our members have been on the scheme for decades and know virtually everything there is to know about the scheme.

I have just ordered my new motability car. I have ordered an automatic after kind of being rushed into making my decision. After much deliberation overnight I have decided I would prefer to stay with manual. Can I request this change with the dealership
My mum (78) has just ordered her first automatic after driving mine said its a million times easier.
July 7, 2024 at 12:48 pm #284251We waited 9 months for our Automatic T-Roc. We fell in love with the showroom model which had all the extras we wanted. We could have had that one pretty much without waiting apparently. It was a manual so we rejected it. The Automatic was worth the wait I must say.
July 10, 2024 at 11:13 pm #284651Good evening,
A quick question if i may in regards to my recent car order and my Motability account.
Under the new car application section within my account, i have a green tick indicated for both the application submitted heading and for the application passed heading but the next heading that says the dealer has ordered your car shows an egg timer symbol, does this timer mean the dealer has yet still to put the order in for my car or will it stay as an egg timer symbol until the car is ready. Thankyou.
July 10, 2024 at 11:49 pm #284654It means the car has been ordered. It will stay like that until there is a date for you to collect it.
July 11, 2024 at 12:14 am #284656I’m the same, but as Collie says it just means it’s been ordered. Ordered and getting a build date and hopefully a sort of time frame for you getting it are completely different so chase it up with your dealer to see what build date you have if any.

July 11, 2024 at 1:00 am #284662Don’t panic if no date appears. My last order never changed from the timer symbol but I still got my car bang on time. In my case the car was supplied from group pipeline orders so no build date was ever given, they just knew they had the right car already in the works.
If I seem a little strange, that's because I am.

August 27, 2024 at 9:32 am #287490Hi,
Ive been reading this great forum for a while as my family are considering rejoining the scheme again after 14 years. As background, we original joined the scheme 2010 and then purchased the car at the end of the lease which we continue to drive to this day. I would like to have a plan to replace the family car before we are forced into making a decision over the next year or so..
Like a few others on this forum, we were considering making the jump to electric due to our recent reduced mileage and we considered the Enyaq last quarter as this felt like the best match to our needs, but disappointingly we didn’t manage to order before the current AP increases…
Whilst we are still considering the Enyaq I cant help but wonder what will happen to the AP next quarter and beyond (depending on delivery dates) especially with regards to the EV targets and recent journalism articles on EV?
I seem to recall posts suggesting that we could cancel before delivery if prices changes in our favour – does anyone have any experience or advice around managing this?
Lastly, am I right in thinking the option to purchase the vehicle at the lease end has been removed? Ideally we would have liked to follow the same approach as last time – find the right car under the scheme and then look to purchase (knowing the full history and reliability of the vehicle)..
Thanks for any help offered..
August 27, 2024 at 9:39 am #287493As for cancelling and reordering if AP’s drop, it all depends on how helpful your dealer is. Ours did it for us saving us over £500. It helped that we have used the same dealer for 10 years. Motability don’t like you doing it but they don’t object. Speak to the dealer before you order and ask if you can reorder if the price comes down, if they say no try another dealer.
August 27, 2024 at 9:56 am #287494Ah, thanks for the prompt response – thats reassuring to know. I’ll have a chat with our local dealer and see what the options are..
August 27, 2024 at 10:42 am #287495I’m sure you’re aware of the advantages of going full BEV via Motability.
1. No massive outlay for a car that will depreciate in value faster than a politician breaking election promises! 🙂
2. Free charger install saving around £1000
3. Running costs, approx 80-90% cheaper than petrol/diesel if you can do most of your charging at home.
I only do about 6000 a year and am currently saving £80-£120 a month. One thing I’d suggest is find a car with a range of double what you think you need, remember that in the colder months you can loose upto 30% of it. My Enyaq is rated at 329 miles, in January when I got it realistically I was getting 220.
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
August 27, 2024 at 1:20 pm #287510If I get an electric vehicle. Can they do the charger install at a different address to my home? I’m a named driver but worked out it would be cheaper to charge if I used my dads address not ours
August 27, 2024 at 1:45 pm #287513@MM5 Yes you can, my mums got a Nissan Ariya but doesn’t have a drive way, I have a driveway and motability said it’s fine to install the charger at mine as we live close to each other
August 27, 2024 at 1:52 pm #287514Ok thank you @TheSuvGuy I will speak to them on the live chat shortly.
September 19, 2024 at 9:23 am #288891Hi again.
Thanks for the help offered so far.
My family are still trying to make a decision, our short list remains the enyaq (preferred) or the ID4, whilst we are keen to forward the imminent Q4 pricing list makes me unsure..
I seem to recall reading that sometimes the new pricing make it this forum before the 1st which would help me make the decision (if I can get the order placed intime?) I did try speaking to the local dealerships about cancelling if the AP moves in our favour (1x said a definite no and the other said the yes but the person was new to the role and didnt give me much confidence) plus this dealership doesnt have appear to have a very good reputation locally anyway..
The recent additional 5o0 contribution on the 85 edition obviously helps, but our ideal was for the 85x which isnt included in this offer.
Thanks and any ideas or suggestions appreciated.

I would think the consensus of opinion hereabouts would be if you are happy to order a particular vehicle, to order it before the end of this month (i.e. now) at the current AP.
Whilst there may be a leak of the next quarter’s Advance Payments a day or two in advance, it is by no means certain that your chosen manufacturer’s AP’s will be leaked. Even if they are, you may not be able to get an appointment to order the vehicle this quarter.
It may also be the case, that in the dying throes of this quarter, the dealer has either sold all of their ‘build quota’ so they cannot order it anyway or have sold enough to reach their quarterly targets, so would try to put the order through the following quarter (if this happens try a different dealer)!
Should the new quarter reveal a drop in AP of your ordered vehicle you have two options. Either ask the dealer to cancel and re-order (which hopefully they would). Or cancel in entirety and reorder at a different dealer. The maximum you would lose is a two or three week position in the build queue depending on how quick you order it.
In any case should something magical appear in the next quarter you can always cancel and reorder.
September 19, 2024 at 12:12 pm #288913Hi, thanks for the prompt response – appreciated.
I guess it was uncertainty regarding cancelling that was concerning us, so thanks for clarifying.
So if Im following correctly, I could potentially order the 85 edition now (with the current 500 promotion) and if the 85x or ID4 equivalent is reduced during Qtr4 then hopefully the dealer will allow me to cancel and re-0rder the other model at the lower AP or failing that cancel the order in full and then goto another dealer for the 85x?
Lastly, if I did need to cancel outright any hints or tips in how to approach this (email/in person etc)? My local skoka dealer made it sound like it never happens and they have no control over this once the order is placed?
Thanks again.

Providing the dealership has build slots available, yes you can order now (or try a different dealer if the dealer has no build slots).
If the AP does go down on 1st October, it is a bit of a paperwork exercise for the dealer to cancel and reorder at the lower AP on the Motability system. They still get paid the same, regardless. If they stick rigidly to the official policy and say they cannot do it, simply tell them you are cancelling the order in total.
Then go elsewhere and order at the new lower AP.
Do not be drawn into paying any deposit at the time of order – it is not required. If a dealer is insistent about a deposit, go elsewhere. Paying a deposit may complicate things a little should you wish to cancel (other than perhaps paying for ordered ‘Optional Extras’ – which really should be avoided anyway).
To cancel an order, contact the dealership – either phone, in person or e-mail. You only create a binding contract when you input the PIN on collection of the vehicle so just an order form is not binding). If the dealership gets a bit funny about cancelling, contact Motability and they can cancel your order (simply tell Motability you have changed your mind).
Remember, you as the customer control the narrative on this, not the car dealer!
September 20, 2024 at 7:44 am #288980Sorry for the delay in responding and thankyou for the update.
Ive managed to get an appointment at a local skoda dealership later day (the one who suggested I could cancel) and now feel more confident regarding the approach we should take.
I intend to order the 85 edition with the 500 additional contribution , and then await the Q4 price list… I’ll ensure to mention the option of cancelling and re-ordering if the AP drops in our favour or the 85x reduces significantly just so they are aware of our intention.
Once again thanks for your help and clear explanation – its really appreciated.
I’ll be sure to feedback on the next steps..
September 20, 2024 at 2:36 pm #289001Just to update –
Enyaq 85 edition now ordered complete with the additional 500 contribution, expected delivery by end of October as vehicle already build and on route to UK. Had the conversation regarding Q4 pricing and they were happy to adjust pricing if needed on this or the 85x if pricing is more favourable.
Now just waiting for an appointment for the home charger install.
One final question (let me know if I should post to the other thread)
Assume most people have adopted for one of the octopus ev tarriff? I dont have a smart meter yet but any help or suggestions in moving/setting this up?
Thanks again.
September 24, 2024 at 4:42 pm #289217Hi if i get an electric car which has free road tax can i use my tax certificate on my partners car which is in my name?
Thanks
September 24, 2024 at 6:25 pm #289236Hi if i get an electric car which has free road tax can i use my tax certificate on my partners car which is in my name? Thanks
Even though the road tax is free, it doesn’t mean a BEV is exempt from tax, so one still needs to be taxed.
However, you can tell Moyability that you want to be responsible for the road tax on the scheme car and then claim free road tax on your partners car.
September 24, 2024 at 8:03 pm #289248Thank you for the quick reply!! I will ask when I pick my car up this weekend but I’m guessing its already gone through so will after to ring mobility after.
October 8, 2024 at 11:13 am #290486Hi I ordered a new car with vw and they said Oct/nov to be ready this is first car on mobility. But now they are saying later. I understand that it happens alot. But my own car has broke so just wondering if I could cancel the order I put in to try and get one quicker or can they give a courtesy car out. The car i did order had a advance payment so If I fix my car or try and buy a new one I ain’t going to be able to pay for the advance payment either. Just wondering what my options could be thanks
October 19, 2024 at 7:11 am #291309Hi, today is Enyaq collection day (yippee) and whilst we are excited its somewhat tarnished by a phone call from the dealership yesterday evening.
As mentioned previously, we ordered the car during Qtr3 when there was the additional 500 contribution for orders before the end of September. At Qtr4 the AP then dropped and the 500 contribution was removed (leaving the overall AP the same).
When speaking to the dealership shortly into Qtr4, we were informed (without prompting them) that they had adjusted the AP for the lower rate but managed to keep the extra 500 contribution therefore reducing our AP payable on collection.
We heard nothing more until the vehicle was eventually registered earlier this week, and then late yesterday the dealership phoned and said they had difficulty creating the invoice as the extra 500 contribution cannot be applied.
Whilst I dont doubt the efforts they have gone to in order to try and resolve the issue (between Motabilty and Skoda) both parties state there is no scope to apply the extra contribution. I cant help but feel the dealership have let us down and should have confirmed this long before now?
Whilst with hindsight I accept this additional contribution was probably unlikely and a mistake, I feel the dealership is somewhat responsible and should at least make a contribution to fixing.
As the vehicle is registered to us, I dont feel we can walk away at this stage but would appreciate any feedback from others around this unusual situation..
I due to collect the vehicle at midday so any suggestions appreciated – I’ll let you know how we get on!
