I think my petrol Tiguan would be cheaper than an EV to run, more so if you can’t charge at home, if it wasn’t for the amount of fuel duty and VAT I pay when I fill up. Filled up yesterday for £64 but less taxes would be around £32 without fuel duty and VAT, but someone has to pay for the roads. Fuel Duty per Litre = 52.95p plus VAT 10.5p total per Litre = 63.54 per Litre. This does not include the VAT on VAT charge so on £64 that would be another £12.80 in my case but this changes by how much a Litre of petrol is at any given station. In a bankrupt country don’t expect the free lunch to last much longer guy’s so make hay while the Sun shines.
To be clear… your petrol car would be cheaper to run than my EV if you didn’t have to pay for fuel 🤔 🤯 😂😂😂
April 25, 2025 at 3:02 pm in reply to: EV From Northwest England To Cornwall Bank Holiday Weekend #304770Travelling the country is easy now. I’m doing Glasgow to Cornwall (St Austell) next month then back via Swansea & Llandudno, probably end up doing over 1,500 miles so I’ll be well over my 20k allowance for the year 😱😂 We do avoid bank and school holidays if possible just because it’s always busier but glad to hear you didn’t have to queue and wait 😤
I tend to use Ionity for the higher charging speeds (Hyundai 800v architecture) but will use Tesla if they are the nearest.
We will still stop at roughly the same spots and for the same length of time as we did last year in the diesel cause us & the dog need a toilet break and a rest 😴 so the trip doesn’t take any longer in an EV but is much more relaxing than an ICE
When there’s no space I have to find a normal space, which on returning means sometimes I can’t access my car. A BB card allows me to access car parks, stations, shops etc. I reserve much ire for fellow BB holders who park badly, occupying the cross hatch space, meaning those in wheelchairs can’t get back in their cars (I may have dinked the odd car, scraping my way back into my car, I do not apologise)
As a fellow wheelchair user I dread having to use a regular space for exactly the reason you stated but getting the Ioniq 6 has been a game changer as I can use the remote function to move it out of the bay 😁
And anybody who badly parks across the hatch markings can fully expect to find a few scars on their car from us wheelchair users trying to squeeze past 😂😂 and if it is a BB holder then that is worse in my opinion 😡😡
Have to disagree with you on that, most cars I see up at the retail park, Tescos, McDonald’s etc do have blue badges… how some of them got badges is a different story 🤔🤷♂️
Plus if you don’t renew then you’ll become one of those people who abuse spaces and we’ll talk about you 😂😂
Too quick… 🤔 they won’t have time to go for a pee 🤷♂️ 😂😂😂
Haters always find an excuse 😢 😂
I think it’s off the scheme now.
No, still on and at a reduced AP
@EVLAD no you’ll get the current version. If/when the new shape comes on it’ll have a different order number and a different price
Nearly went for Ioniq 6 this time (Nov 24) but found it fidgety/nervous over our crap local roads; also more than a bit noisy inside and overladen with dire digitalia. Looked good though. New one looks even better – a proper saloon with designers brave enough to give it some individuality.
Surprised to hear that, I’ve got one and I’ve never had any issues on country roads. Yesterday I done 287 miles to Campbeltown and back without a problem and at the start of the week it was 240 miles to the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse.
Also noisy inside, one of the things they are known for is the quietness inside due to the double glazing and extra sealant trim around the doors.
When I’m due to change (in 2027) I’d definitely have another one, hopefully the N line 😁
It felt natural because it’s just a car, an automatic car 🤷♂️
If you’re planning on doing long trips then have a practice at rapid charging when you’ve got time and not stressed, better that than the first time being when it’s dark and you’re desperate.
Wait till winter comes and you get to use preheating 👌
You’ll soon wonder what all the scaremongering and doomsday posters were worried about 😂
Enjoy your new car when it comes and hopefully you saved a few quid on the AP 🤞 (or get back on the phone to the dealer 😉)
They have again confirmed this can be done…mention they are few cars short of quarterly motability Sales so need to shift few cars by and of March ….
Looks like it is possible to be done that way according to BigDave… so why are you on here at noon talking about it and not sitting in the showroom waiting on your new car 🤔 😂😂😂
Don’t know if that’s possible in that time frame but either way what’s to decide… they have the car you want in stock and available so I’d be up first thing tomorrow morning and on the road asap to get it signed up.
I have a cv without a heat pump it’s expensive to keep on, I’ve also had a ev with a heat pump BIG difference..
Thanks but that explains nothing 🤷♂️ 🤦♂️
Get whatever car you want in April but don’t think that one with a heat pump will suddenly be very economical to run
I currently have a ev that doesn’t have a heat pump and it’s so expensive to run the heating in this car, I’m due to renew in April so I’ll be looking for a ev with a heat pump
Depends what you mean by so expensive to run the heating 🤔 getting a heat pump won’t suddenly change that… some cars are just more efficient / expensive to run than others
If it has one then fine, if it doesn’t then fine… it should be at the bottom of any list being used to compare cars 🤷♂️ and whatever you do don’t pay extra for one as we don’t get it cold enough for long enough to get any real benefit from them.
Pick the car you like to look at, like to drive, show off in, can afford and you won’t go wrong 👍
Wouldn’t you need to check out the last part of the paragraph…
“The date on which this Agreement is terminated in accordance with the terms set out in the Contract Hire Terms and Conditions… (Ref: T&C’s & the “Conditions”), whichever is earlier” and see what they say 🤔
To me it sounds like extensions would be for the usual reasons… ie waiting on a new car being delivered? I haven’t read the T&C’s thoroughly myself but I’d have a look through them first before phoning 🤞
As already stated, take a run into a kwikfit and ask them to have a look but be prepared that if the tyres are still legal and the car is due to be returned soon then Motability might not authorise replacements 🤷♂️
But realistically the fact you had to brake suddenly (so harder?) on a wet road and it triggered the ABS isn’t a surprise. I wouldn’t be worried about motorway driving as you have good visibility there so should be able to anticipate any hazards… normal city roads where pedestrians, cyclists & dozy drivers are, or country roads with tractors, mud, lorries & more dozy drivers live are more to be concerned about
This is March 13th…. everything from here forwards is a 25 reg 🤷♂️
Unless it was registered a fortnight ago 🤦♂️
Please stop scaremongering. That article is rubbish. Motability generated some loss due to incentives (£750 pay outs, free ev chargers, grants – ) and drop in resale value. You may remember Tesla cut prices by 20% couple of years ago that had a knock on effect on used EV prices. Also insurance went up a bit. BTW Motability has 4 billion (!) pounds in capital reserve (i.e. cash in the bank) so far from going bankrupt.
#Al3xT please explain how I’m scaremongering and that the article is rubbish when you’ve gone and posted links to 2 articles saying the same thing?
Also nobody mentioned anything about Motability going bankrupt so… 🤷♂️
FYI I seen the story on Face ache so thought it might have been of interest to people on here
Every car ive had on motorbility since 2001, i test drive before order and really test drive on collection day, which to me is far more important due to that being the car i will have for 3years.Surpsies me that people test drive then order ,then look round it on collection day but dontt re test drive it.
What a load of 💩
Definitely a case of ‘buyer beware’ or in our case ‘leaser beware’
I know some hospital appointments can be a pain but over 100 miles away… is that the norm in England (I’m presuming that’s where you are?) so a 200+ mile round trip without properly researching the car you’re going to be spending hours in at a time.
However you went for an EV with no research which was a mistake, don’t blame the salesmen as they just want a sale but in saying that I don’t believe (& prove me wrong please) that you’re getting less than 50% of the range, 320 down to 150… what speed are you driving at, how were you charging it, what car was this? But to compound the first error you accepted another car without testing it to see if it was suitable, I can only say Why 🤦♂️
What car did you have before these two and if that was suitable why not stick with what worked to save any unnecessary stress, or go back to it if they let you change again.
Motability let you change the first one, if you speak to them they might let you change this one but I doubt you’ll get a third chance so make very sure you get it right next time.
I’ve got no idea how to cope with any anxiety the thought of driving it causes, maybe give each journey more time. Stop frequently to chill, relax, adjust the seat and stretch out, accept that it’s not forever or a lifetime issue and it’ll get rectified soon enough.
I really don’t fancy your chances of getting another car changed so soon into the lease but good luck anyway 🤞

Good review and things are so much better these days than they used to be, not perfect but definitely better than the days EV chargers were stuck in disabled bays and it was a bun fight to get in…. disabled ICE drivers and able-bodied EV drivers arguing about who had priority 🤯
Plenty of times I’ve tried to push the plug in and only succeed in pushing myself away from the car 🤦♂️😂
Also as your charger is on the drivers side of the car it isn’t the worst place but the likes of Tesla and a lot of other cars where it’s on the passenger side means needing space to get your chair out as well as space to get to the charge port, not always possible with some bays (Instavolt I find are the worst for the bays being tight?) so plenty of times I’ve had to park squint across 2 bays 🫣
Enjoy your car and I wish you many happy road trips 😁
I get the point about working and not being available on a particular day but apart from the snob value or to one-up a neighbour what difference does the plate make to us?
Hasn’t this subject already been covered and Motability said they don’t care what the plate is, they just want it delivered to the customer asap 🤔
As for paying £55 to re register it, I’d rather pay for a private plate 😁
I certainly wouldn’t be paying any AP money until I’d inspected it and was due to drive away.
My cousin drives a Range Rover Autobiography, that’s quite a heavy car and you wouldn’t describe the ride as clunky so it’s nothing to do with the weight, it’s the wheels, tyres and how the suspension is set up.
And as for the extra weight of a BEV or a PHEV causing extra damage to the roads (or causing car parks to collapse?) well that’s just Daily Wail reporting… was never an issue for years when 4×4’s were on the school run or commuting into the city 🤷♂️ crap investment in infrastructure, allowing utility companies to dig up roads whenever they liked and not fixing the little things early enough are more of an issue regarding the poor state of our roads.
Nothing to do with being electric, more to do with big wheels and low profile tyres.
I’d suggest testing a few non electric cars to see if there’s any improvement.
Not that important for us, we don’t really get cold enough weather to get a huge benefit from one.
It wouldn’t be a deal breaker and I certainly wouldn’t pay extra for it, you’ll never get that money back.
