Hi all, how important is a heat pump on an EV. Year round should the inclusion of a heat pump on a vehicles standard spec influence your decision in choosing vehicle.
Basically, I like the Skodas , Enroq and Enyaq, also, Hyundai, Ioniq5 and Kona.
The Hyundais come with a heat pump. Skodas don’t, most other items are similar toys , deposits are similar with Skodas slightly less. What is anyone’s experience with heat pumps?
Many thanks, regards, wonky

From what i worked out with the help of a few forum members on here, if the heat pump is included in the vehicle’s ap price all well and good, but if you are having to fork out an extra £1000 and you are charging your car at your home its going to take a hell of a lot of mileage (ie the miles you would save using the heat pump as appose to using the vehicles battery) to make up that £1000
March 16, 2025 at 10:58 pm #299568If it has one then fine, if it doesn’t then fine… it should be at the bottom of any list being used to compare cars 🤷♂️ and whatever you do don’t pay extra for one as we don’t get it cold enough for long enough to get any real benefit from them.
Pick the car you like to look at, like to drive, show off in, can afford and you won’t go wrong 👍
March 17, 2025 at 1:53 pm #299601My last car a Kona didn’t have one and my current car scenic e-tech does and I see absolutely no difference at all. Both have the same range bearing in mind I’d expect a bigger more modern battery in the scenic to be better. Nope I’m still getting about 220 miles range.
Just this last month I seem to be having a problem that others have mentioned in that the scenic does not heat well. The Kona was a steady 21 degrees and nice and so was the scenic. But just recently it blows out cold air up to 23 degrees and I need to set it at 24+ sometimes I have to put it on at full pelt just to warm the car and the burning smell is not nice at that temp.
Funny a doctor just told me last week in hospital that I’m always hypothermic as my body temperature is always around 33.2 to 33.7 lol.
March 17, 2025 at 2:08 pm #299604I currently have a ev that doesn’t have a heat pump and it’s so expensive to run the heating in this car, I’m due to renew in April so I’ll be looking for a ev with a heat pump

Depends what you mean by so expensive to run the heating 🤔 getting a heat pump won’t suddenly change that… some cars are just more efficient / expensive to run than others
March 17, 2025 at 5:59 pm #299621I have a cv without a heat pump it’s expensive to keep on, I’ve also had a ev with a heat pump BIG difference..

Thanks but that explains nothing 🤷♂️ 🤦♂️
Get whatever car you want in April but don’t think that one with a heat pump will suddenly be very economical to run
March 17, 2025 at 11:30 pm #299632Same as @des had a Kona without a heat pump and a Scenic e-tech with one, which made no difference in efficiency at all using the same routes, same driving temp at 20c, with heated seats and steering wheel on as needed. I definitely wouldn’t pay for one as an extra there’s no way it would pay for itself in increased efficiency.
March 18, 2025 at 12:05 pm #299663So cause I’m putting heating on I’m using a lot of my battery to make heat in the car…. So I have to go charge my car more often than if I had a heat pump which would reduce that cost… I know I’m right because i have had best of both worlds
March 18, 2025 at 12:07 pm #299664Don’t get me wrong it’s not free either way to put your heating on but without a heat pump it eats through your range…
March 18, 2025 at 12:54 pm #299665March 20, 2025 at 9:40 am #299743My Kia EV6 GT Line AWD doesn’t have a heat pump. However it has great range, in Winter doesn’t drop below 240 miles, getting around 280 mile range at the moment. Don’t miss a Heat pump. Octopus home charging makes running very cheap. Pleased I got the car before massive AP increases.
