If you’re getting your charger through Motability It’ll probably be an Ohme charger. If so, you can lock the buttons so that nobody can just use your charger when you’re not there.
Tickety boo, thanks
if you get the Ohme charger you also get the option to approve every charge if you want more peace of mind.

Sorry I meant to say Charging direct through the Ohme app is no longer available but the Ohme charger is still good to use.

I would check with Ovo to see if you are still getting the 7p rate because from 15/7/25 you can only charge your car via the Charge Anytime app and charging through the Ohme charger no longer works ( this is what is stated in email received from Ovo) unless they are allowing a little leeway to anyone who has not switched to Charge Anytime app yet?.The EV3 is included in the beta trial so should be fine to charge.I believe Ovo are the only energy supplier that your peak rate does not increase when you add on Charge Anytime to your Ovo account,I currently am paying 22.07 (1 year fix) but as the price cap has dropped (only £10 since January) you may be able to get a slightly lower deal than the one I got.
Cheers for the reply kezo
I meant to say Ohme charger will just be used as a dumb charger after 15th July onwards for me.Im not a Octopus intelligent fan at all as I don’t believe it will suit my lifestyle (using non peak times is not an option) and as I am just due to get my pension in a months time I’m very much set in my ways.Eon is very much one I will take a look at if charging does not run smoothly via charging directly from car to Ovo,so thanks for the heads up.
Looks like amongst other things, pre condition will not be available via direct charging with Charge Anytime app.So Ohme charger will sit there unused after 15th July.Waste of £1k by Motability by the looks of it.
Not looking forwards to charging the car directly to Ovo as people doing this have reported multiple problems with regard to reliable charging. My car is eligible for this but if yours is not eligible you would have to change supplier I suppose (or get another charger!!).Not good.
Hey wonky,I’ve had no problems whatsoever with Ovo so not yet tested their customer service. On the monthly bill you get it just says Charge Anytime and gives you just the amount credited back, nothing else regarding dates or ev usage.I keep track of it just by writing down each usage and working out the full charge at peak rate, then minus the Charge Anytime 7p rate, thought it best to do this as it is simple to pick up on any discrepancy on the Ovo bill. You get credited the difference back the following month but cut off date is around the 15th of the month so if you did a charge this month after the 15th you would not get that credited back until your June bill.I suppose the big test will be if/when any problem occurs and how efficient Ovo are at dealing with it but all good so far.
I’ve been with Ovo for 4 months and not encountered any problems (mostly through great advice given on here).Don’t get too hung up with the 30k free miles, that’s £210 at the current Ovo Charge Anytime rate, which is still nice but not enough imo to steer anyone away from a car they may be wanting but is not on the list for the 30k offer.
Brydo I think we will soon find out if the Russians position is weak.If they do any kind of deal with Trump after the U.S. military aid cut then that would be a clear sign that at this moment in time they don’t have the resources to finish off the Ukrainians.Unfortunately this looks like an open invitation for Putin to push on and I think that’s what will happen as the ‘we want peace’ garbage coming out of the Kremlin is just that imo and is only to portray Zelensky as the one who won’t come to the negotiating table. We will find out soon I suspect, but the abandonment of Ukraine by the U.S. is an utter disgrace as one way or another it will give Putin the ‘win’ he is seeking.
Been with Ovo for 10 weeks now (first ev for me so completely new Ovo customer) and found the experience very good I would say.Its not exactly ‘charge anytime’ but I plug in about 8pm and charging will usually be scheduled and commence at 9pm as I assume the grid price is still too high to start charging at 8pm,charging target has always been reached by 8.00am the next morning. You won’t get any cheap charging at peak times (breakfast, dinner and teatime) but I have got the odd hour or two at the cheap rate between 9.30 and 11.30am and from 2.00 and 4.00pm.Also the peak rate you are charged remains the same wether you are on the ‘charge anytime’ tariff or just a plain old non ev customer, which is excellent as I believe quite a few of the other companies that provide ev tariffs charge more for peak rate usage.Overall impressed so far but still a relative newby!
gazzagaz the Scenic comes supplied with a 6.5 metre charging cable.
Thanks des I just find it a bit odd that the manual use of the My Renault app is not mentioned on the app itself or in the online guides and YouTube videos. Its very handy though so not complaining.
Ele thanks for the tip,I’ve read in places that the Kelec app can cause problems for some people as it may conflict with the My Renault app,so will do more research about it.
Sorted guys!(I hope) Programmed the car for 8.25 am ready time and worked perfectly. One slight worry,I accidentally clicked on the preconditioning again when looking on the My Renault app and the car started preconditioning again,I only had the 8.25 time programmed and this occurred at 12pm so does this mean you can click the precon at anytime to activate it immediately? Or is it once you have 1 programme set via the car directly, then the immediate activation is rightly available?
Thanks kezo I’ve not seen that video so will give it a go.
Hi all sorry (and apologies) if this seems like a thread hijack but I have the Renault Scenic e-tech and am having no luck trying to use the preconditioning via the My Renault app.I stay away from home 2 or 3 nights a week but no charger there and have been trying to precondition while the car is obviously not plugged into charger.Ive been through the Renault e-guides on line and it tells me how to program the car first but I keep getting some random charging times coming up (nothing like the times that I charge) which is stopping me from inputting the correct time I want to do preconditioning.Any help would be most appreciated as it’s driving me up the wall!!
Click on the “view representative example” in yellow on that link.
Looks like the scenic techno long range has been replaced by the smaller 67 kw battery and that particular one is £1495 compared to the £995 that the 87kw was priced at.Pretty sure this will be the first time the smaller battery scenic techno has been available on the scheme.
December 22, 2024 at 9:14 pm in reply to: Electricity tariffs and setting up of EV home charging procedures #295289Ok Thankyou markah2007 that’s put my mind at rest knowing it’s a general problem. Not a good look for ohme though and you would think they would have fixed it by now.
Jojoe that’s terrible you have to pay peak rate because of a fault with ohme.Luckily for me I can get cheap rate in the day with Ovo charge anytime. Are you with octopus if you don’t mind me asking?
December 22, 2024 at 6:38 pm in reply to: Electricity tariffs and setting up of EV home charging procedures #295283Evening all
Been trying to use ohme epod charger for the 1st time but my vehicle Renault Scenic etech wont pair with it.Message reads “ we’re having trouble communicating with your Renault account. You can always try pairing it later.” I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling both apps 3 times now and still no joy.Any help would be much appreciated and I am with Ovo energy if that makes any difference.I did successfully charge on a Tesla rapid charger last Monday with zero problems.
November 26, 2024 at 3:25 pm in reply to: Electricity tariffs and setting up of EV home charging procedures #294066Oh and the epod retails at £50 cheaper than the homepro so the cost was already cheaper to Motability.
November 26, 2024 at 3:24 pm in reply to: Electricity tariffs and setting up of EV home charging procedures #294065Went for Renault Scenic techno expected about 3 weeks time.I think they would have let me have a lead if I pushed it but not worried, just a bit naughty to still be advertising a lead is supplied when it’s not imo.
November 26, 2024 at 11:36 am in reply to: Electricity tariffs and setting up of EV home charging procedures #294050Just a warning to anyone choosing the Ohme epod charger, this no longer comes with the charging lead – confirmed by Ohme and Motability today. This is clearly something quite new ( and a money saver for Motability ) and I would have chosen the Ohmepro if I had known beforehand. Not a huge problem as you will still get a charging lead with your new ev but thought I would post this info as a heads up for anyone who has yet to select which of the 2 Ohme chargers they prefer.

November 25, 2024 at 8:37 am in reply to: Electricity tariffs and setting up of EV home charging procedures #293961Hi guys Ohme epod being fitted but charging cable doesn’t come with it,is this correct? I know it’s untethered but thought you get 5 or 8 metre cable as well?
November 19, 2024 at 2:53 pm in reply to: Electricity tariffs and setting up of EV home charging procedures #293582Finally after much to and fro between Ohme,DNO and myself we have an installation date for 25/11/24.That will be more than 8 weeks after application/photos etc were sent, seems a whole lot longer though!
Any tips/good ideas for do’s and dont’s when setting up the account on Ohme app would be most welcome at this stage.
Thanks all who have assisted me already, sure to be back with more questions though!
