I’ve noticed we have more posts relating to electricity tariffs and setting up of EV home charging procedures and was wondering if there was enough interest to set up a permanent sticky.
There is a fair amount of money to be saved charging from home and getting the correct tariff could save more.
I don’t really have much expertise in the topic but I’ve noticed there are those who’ve been using a number of tariffs and actually change tarrif between summer and winter so there must be money to be saved for members to go to the bother.

Hi guys, after 7 weeks my ohme epod charger still does not work properly, ohme just ignoring me now, Motability have spoken to them multiple times and they still dont help, they told Motability they have an open ticket with technical department and are looking to fix but dont do anything.
Second time Motability contacted them they told them same story and then stopped replying to Motability too.
My charger will not charge at 7kw, i click max charge and it will very occasionally go to 7kw for a varied amount of time between seconds and an hour then just drop to 3kw and never go back to 7kw.
Now its started saying the charge is complete and its added 84kwh when its really added a random amount much lower than 84kwh.
I try to restart charging last night as car was on 54% and it refuses as it thinks its fillex the battery, i have to go outside this morning and unplug and then plug it back in to start charging again.
Its the biggest regret ive had in recent years getting this thing installed.
Im having to try figure out whats wrong myself, If its charging at 3kw 16A should my ct clamp reading be higher than 16A ?
Thats what i had assumed but the ct clamp reading is between 0.6 and 2.4A when its charging, surely thats wrong ?
Id appreciate any help

Its a shame Ohme are treating you like this and taking so long to sort the problem out for you. You’d think Mobility would put their foot down, especially as Ohme are ignoring them too, especially when theres something clearly wrong.
If it were me I would put a strongly worded complaint to Motability CEO, stating Ohme don’t seem to be bothered to sort out the problem, even when asked by Motability and it is making the car unbareable to live with!
Writing on Ohms social media or going to the press, saying something along the lines, Disabled person left with faulty Ohme charger, who seem unwilling after 7 weeks of complaints, to fix or replace it, will often turn things around in your favour.
I could tell you to buy a new CT clamp for around £20 but, why should you, when the bloody charger comes with 3 year guarantee and then what if the chargers faulty, thats £20 down the drain.
I don’t install Ohme chargers, so cant log into their installer database to axcess your charger unfortunately.
December 8, 2024 at 12:35 pm #294714@kezo it was the ceo email that i contacted at Motability to try sort it, someone contacted me from Motability after that and they are the person communicating with ohme but they literally just open a ticket and then never reply to the ticket afterwards, ive had exactly same issue as Motability, they just dont come back to you
If you call the number the call handler says its a technical issue and they cant deal with it, then tell you it’ll be resolved via a ticket.
You tell them you’ve had many tickets and no one looks into it or replies and then the tickets automatically close and they just pretend to care and say sorry, then open a new ticket and say bye.
Ive tried to complain and they dont have a complaints department, ive asked for management and thats ticket only too with no reply again, they are abysmal.
I already complained with negative 1 star reviews via trust pilot, play store and social media, they then got someone to email me from technical department apologizing andxsaid he would sort it, 3 weeks later now and haven’t had a reply again since and ive sent messages via the ticket over and over snd and they dont look at it or reply.
If the CT clamp is working should the ct reading be above 16A if its charging at 3kw 16A ?

I would leave another 1 star review stating you received email since last review but still nothing being done 3 weeks later.
I think, I would email Motability CEO again, stating nothing has been done, and the car is becoming unbareable to live with due to a fault on the charger and if it isn’t sorted, you will be looking at returning the car. That might just wake the up a bit hearing your planning on handing the car back!
Yes you are right it should show a reading of around 16A.
December 8, 2024 at 12:59 pm #294717@kezo thanks, ive already just left another 1 star review stating that they still haven’t helped plus the new issues im having.
Ill contact Motability again i guess, good idea about threatening to return the car 👍

December 22, 2024 at 6:38 pm #295283Evening all
Been trying to use ohme epod charger for the 1st time but my vehicle Renault Scenic etech wont pair with it.Message reads “ we’re having trouble communicating with your Renault account. You can always try pairing it later.” I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling both apps 3 times now and still no joy.Any help would be much appreciated and I am with Ovo energy if that makes any difference.I did successfully charge on a Tesla rapid charger last Monday with zero problems.

Thats normal, check the reviews they’re terrible.
Cant pair my Hyundai ioniq 5, dad cant pair his audi q4 etron or his kia ev6.
I spoke to ohme who said its an ongoing issue they’re aware of, complaints on their reviews as far back as 4 months about it so they have no intention of fixing it.
You can still charge without pairing it, just plug in and then authorise the charge from ohme app
December 22, 2024 at 8:29 pm #295288We can’t pair our Enyaq, have to use the charger dumb, just plug and charge.
December 22, 2024 at 9:14 pm #295289Ok Thankyou markah2007 that’s put my mind at rest knowing it’s a general problem. Not a good look for ohme though and you would think they would have fixed it by now.
Jojoe that’s terrible you have to pay peak rate because of a fault with ohme.Luckily for me I can get cheap rate in the day with Ovo charge anytime. Are you with octopus if you don’t mind me asking?
December 22, 2024 at 9:24 pm #295290@mikecooper you can still get 7p night rate with octopus using 5he charger dumb, the whole house gets 7p at night.
Also you can connect the ohme epod to octopus app and join the intelligent go tariff which will charge when it thinks is best and if it charges in your peak tariff times window you whole house gets 7p rate whilst its charging
December 24, 2024 at 8:24 am #295332Hi all,
I am getting a Megane etec at the end of January and have a question about charging.
Can I just set a charging schedule through the Megane and if so do I need to use the Ohme app or press anything on the Epod?
Will it just start to charge.
Thanks
Mark

We still get the cheap rate, just have to manually start and stop the charge in the app.
December 30, 2024 at 3:02 pm #295477BG are having a Green Flex event tomorrow, half price electricity between 11.30am and 1.30pm. You have to register by responding to the email.

Never has a problem with them in 35 years. Someone on here said they had an issue registering for Peak Save and BG gave them a credit on their bill. Try ringing them and say you’re missing out on all the Peak Save savings, you may get a credit.
December 31, 2024 at 11:12 am #295529According to BG, in order to get “cheap rate” from BG I have to have a smart meter fitted and sign up for the cheap rate. Problems with that are:
1. Mt previous experience with BG have been bloody disastrous. Their fitters tried to con me into a boiler replacement and then maliciously broke the boiler, causing extensive floods and forcing me to get new boiler.
2. From media reports, smart meters spend a lot of their time broke.
3. My EV mileage is so low that if I signed up to cheap rate for my EV, then my “standard rate” price gets hiked by about 5p perKWh and my overall power bill would cost me much more than not signing up.
So I’m going to continue not getting cheap rate. Safer that way – I am not letting a BG fitter or any BG smart tech into my house.

Peak Save Sunday gives you 5 hours of half price electricity every Sunday. It’s doesn’t change your standard tariff, we pay 23p per KWh all the time and get it for 11.5p on a Sunday and during the Green Flex days, you can benefit from it with any of BG’s tariffs. It’s perfect for EV owners who don’t do enough miles to benefit from a night tariff. If you are already with BG it’s a no brainer.
December 31, 2024 at 11:31 am #295536@Jojoe Thank you for that information. But won’t I still have to get a smart meter installed. According to the BG Websitery I must have one of those in order to “register” for anything. I agree with you, it is perfect for me; but I just cannot see BG letting me have an effective discount without grabbing something else back in return.
December 31, 2024 at 12:13 pm #295539@Tharg Yes you do need a smart meter to benefit from the half price events. We don’t just charge the car, we put the dishwasher on, do two or three washer / drier loads, cook a roast and charge a powerbank. We’re getting an average £20 a month credit back to our electric account.
December 31, 2024 at 3:23 pm #295543@Jojoe Again, thanks for the info. Guess I’ll have to think out whether to take a gamble on the smart meter… 11p per KWh without a hike in standard rate is very attractive.
January 10, 2025 at 9:49 am #295964@Markah2007 I have had the same problem. Don’t get excited – it is solved but I don’t know how!!
Our first three charges were fine, the next five, after the new year, were at about 3.8kw and did not get us to 80%. All that happened is that we charged the car in public chargers over the new year. Really not sure if I changed somethingon the app accidentally or if the public chargers did it or if the new year did it?!
I contacted Ohme who wanted photos etc and told me the setup is fine – the ticket is still open.
Fortunately our installer had left his contact details because we had not expected the car for another 6 months and he kindly said he would come back and re-cap for us – so we contacted him. He changed something in our settings remotely and it has worked for the past four charges (we are very new to this). It has charged to 99% each time – I’m scared to change anything now!
I suppose I’m suggesting you speak to your installer – the contractor, not Ohme.

January 15, 2025 at 8:31 am #296221For anyone with EV, this is a brilliant tariff from EON, it’s called “Next Drive Fixed V4” and is fixed for 1 year from when you get moved onto it. (no exit penalties).
I was previously with Octopus Energy on their Tracker rate, which became a bad tariff in my mind in November, so I looked for a better one with Octopus first. Intelligent GO will not work with my vehicle nor my podpoint charger so that was out. Octopus GO only gives 5 hours and is more expensive.
So I searched the market and found the following EON Tariff which gives 7 hours @6.7p and the rest at 24.13p
Electricity
Next Drive Fixed V4Fixed term ends 05/12/2025
12AM – 7AM
6.70 p/kWh
7AM – 12AM24.13 p/kWh
Standing charge64.17 p/day
(All rates inc. VAT)So I moved my Electicity only (left my gas with Octopus) to this tariff in December 2024
An update on how it’s going – over the moon with it! I setup my podpoint charger to only charge midnight to 7am which works a treat. Also any other electricity in your house being used by other devices attracts the lower rate. So get up at 6am and put on the washing machine and
Thanks!
