I’ve noticed we have more posts relating to electricity tariffs and setting up of EV home charging procedures and was wondering if there was enough interest to set up a permanent sticky.
There is a fair amount of money to be saved charging from home and getting the correct tariff could save more.
I don’t really have much expertise in the topic but I’ve noticed there are those who’ve been using a number of tariffs and actually change tarrif between summer and winter so there must be money to be saved for members to go to the bother.

A lot of the savings are very dependent on individual setups ie. Solar or Solar & Batteries even the area you live in has an impact on tariff cost with some suppliers, unfortunately.
June 16, 2024 at 4:48 pm #282130It’s slightly complicated by where you live (regional cost differences), how much “normal” electricity you use and at what times and how much and when you want to be able to charge the car.
I’m currently (no pun intended) debating swapping onto Octopus Agile, while I’d probably save maybe 25-30% on my normal usage I’ve already moved heavy use (washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher to the off paek rate of 7.5p on Octopur Intelligent Go.
I think that as my usage increases in the Winter I may swap over.
A handy place to check rates for Agile is here, shows real time rates for today and tomorrow,

Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

I’m on the Octopus Intelligent Go, don’t know if I’m brave enough to go onto Agile. I like the idea it’s just the thought of being hit with a big bill
June 16, 2024 at 5:05 pm #282134I don’t have a smart tariff just now as i don’t have a smart meter but i intend to change all of that in the near future.
I plan to get an Air Source Heat Pump, home battery storage and more solar in the near future and the Scottish Government make it easier to achieve this by giving interest-free loans on top of grants of up to £11,090 if you live in a rural location and £10,000 for all others. £7,500 towards an ASHP and £1250 each for battery storage and solar.

I see so many questions on the likes of setting up an Octopus tariff etc, where the same advice, same video is posted numerous times, so I can see where a stand alone thread may be helpful.
June 16, 2024 at 6:21 pm #282143Hey all. I think it may be of use to open a sticky on this subject. As it may be useful to all members.
So maybe it should go in the off topic section? Let me know and we can get it set up on a trial basis and see how it goes?

Great suggestion, then its not blocking up the main forum

Leave it up to @Brydo , as he is the one that came up with the idea!
June 16, 2024 at 7:12 pm #282148The thing about the off-topic section is that, for whatever reason, most members don’t use it so it might just die a death if listed there 😔

I agree!
It wouldn’t block up the main forum as it will be a sticky at the top of the page. Also not one knows whether a topic or reply is on the main forum or off topic untill openedanyway.
June 16, 2024 at 8:06 pm #282151June 16, 2024 at 8:17 pm #282153On the basis this topic will be helpful it would be good to know which company you are with and which tariff you are on. Octopus Energy have the most tariff options and they kindly group their tariffs so as those with electric cars, battery storage, solar or none of the above have a choice of tariff. If you are new to Octopus or are thinking if joining i would have a good look through the website and focus on the tariff that best suit your needs. If you are with a different supplier but think it would be of benefit to other members please tell us about it.

There’s a tool for that on their webpage if i recall correctly.

No. And.
edit: to be more clear, both car and charger need to be compatible. You can have a compatible charger, and it might not be an option if your car isn’t.
Trying to think back, i think in the order process they check whether or not both are compatible.Something to do with setting up charging schedules remotely, if i recall correctly.

Here’s a list of compatible cars.

Depending on your car I would advise not down loading the OVO anytime app and just use the Ohme app for charging, just have to add the percentage needed. It was the anytime app that was causing the problems, have a Bz4x and while OVO says it can connect to it, it does cause problems and in the end the tech guy from OVO said just use the Ohme app and he disconnected my car from the anytime app.
Up to know, touch wood, all seems great.

June 18, 2024 at 3:26 pm #282323I think, and certainly hope, that it is “or” on Octopus Intelligent, because during the eligibility check, if you select a car and a charger that are not compatible then it won’t let you proceed, but if, as I did, you choose a charger that is not compatible (I have Hypervolt) and a car that is (I await an Enyaq) then you are allowed to sign-up.

June 18, 2024 at 6:39 pm #282345Anyone know how long it is taking Octopus or Ovo to install a smart meter?
June 18, 2024 at 6:54 pm #282348Haven’t had it installed yet but they said over the phone 3/4 weeks.
Further to my previous post the Scottish government have now withdrawn the grants and interest-free loans scheme associated with battery and solar installation. If you had an application in before the 6th June you are fine and will still get the grant and loan.

There is a cheaper rate of 31p and 14p PKW on click energy. I’ll probably switch to that when I read the small print.
June 18, 2024 at 8:37 pm #282359Des that shocking, are you able to get solar panels as they are cheaper now than they have ever been.
