I’ve noticed we have more posts relating to electricity tariffs and setting up of EV home charging procedures and was wondering if there was enough interest to set up a permanent sticky.
There is a fair amount of money to be saved charging from home and getting the correct tariff could save more.
I don’t really have much expertise in the topic but I’ve noticed there are those who’ve been using a number of tariffs and actually change tarrif between summer and winter so there must be money to be saved for members to go to the bother.

Previous car:Peugeot 308 GT Premium 1.2 Pure tech Petrol.March 14, 2025 at 12:44 pm #299434I do agree in principle providing folk adhere to it’s intended purpose however, there is too much cross over for one sticky and that’s one of the main reasons the last sticky failed @Brydo ?
In my view, if it going to be done, it needs to be done based on each subject to remain clean to and on the topic in question for it to remain fuss free, useable and easily searchable. This IMHO would require more than one sticky –
1 – EV charger installation questions & guides
2 – Setting up of EV Chargers
3 – Electrical tariffs
Maybe 2 & 3 can be combined but, they are really different subjects.
@joss I suggest you discuss it in the mod only section and see what can be done realistically 🙂March 14, 2025 at 1:02 pm #299440March 14, 2025 at 1:15 pm #299443There would also need to be an announcement from one the mods/wmc, stating they exist and future questions etc need to be posted in the relevant sticky!
I’m away for weekend, so I’ll go with what’s decided.
April 14, 2025 at 4:32 pm #304281Just a quick question.
I have had my e-3008 for the last 9 months I didn’t get the wall box as I had bought a house off plan,(moving in Thursday) it comes with a pod point home charger, I’m having issues trying to find a tariff as none seem to take either car or charger or both.
Does anyone else have a Peugeot and a pod point home charger ? And who do you use as an electric provider
April 14, 2025 at 4:49 pm #304283Have you tried EDF? The car and the charger should surely be irrelevant to the Tariff as they are EV specific and not car/charger specific I would have thought?

Agree with Jason British gas EDF, EON all do ev tariffs that don’t need a charger or cat to be compatable.
June 14, 2025 at 9:31 am #306575Is there scope for a separate Public Charging sticky as well?

Don’t believe it went much further Bandit however, should it do so in the future, there could be one thread/forum, with sub threads/forums and be included in that
June 17, 2025 at 11:03 am #306735Hi has anyone had problems with Ohme like very rude, putting you install on hold for no reason, email that make no sense like your installation will be on the 10th when it now the 13th then hit you will an install fee of over £1,300 with no explanation or why after paying for a driveway to get a charging point.
June 17, 2025 at 11:03 am #306736Hi has anyoneone had problems with Ohme my lasest is a £1,300 – £1.500 estimate for my FREE home charger?

I presume any quoted cost is down to it not being a standard install as the charger is free on Motability providing it is a ‘standard’ installation.
Would your charger point need an extensive cabling run to get to your electric distribution point? Or such as going through many walls? Does it need to go under a pathway etc?
Have you tried getting an estimate from a local electrician for the cabling work from your electric point to charger location as it maybe cheaper than letting Ohme do the work.

£13-1500 seems alot of money, I would ask for a breakdown of costs!
I would also look at getting quotes from local electricians.
June 27, 2025 at 10:20 am #307262well I am going to change my charger, I am on ovo because of my std day rate of 22p kw is fixed for 18 more months, i use 15kw a day (medical equipment) I can either spend the extra 350 to 500 pound out ever 12 months, switching to another energy provider or pay for a charger and a hour of electirtions time, which seems to be the cheaper option for me.
The worst thing about this is that with octopus now offering a bolt on and moving forward other energy companies are looking at this too we will soon be in a situation were the schemes charger partner wont work with any.
(the reason this is happening is because the ohme has no way of detecting if a charge came from solar or home) so basically people have been getting energy credit even when charging from solar.

July 2, 2025 at 3:02 pm #307678quick question
has anyone experience of Wigan Council giving permission for an EV charging point being installed in one of their rental properties
July 29, 2025 at 9:42 am #310584OK ordered an EV, now I am told, that OVO, sent an email, on the 15th, saying they wont talk to the ohme charger, and you wont get anytime pricing. The car, a hyundai, is on the beta list, so it may or may not work. Any ideas, suggestions are get another charger or leave ovo. Is this right, or do you have a choice of chargers from MB. The reason seems to be, ohme, won’t join the standard for chargers.
July 29, 2025 at 12:31 pm #310602I switched to octopus fixes with the intelligent drive pack as it works out cheaper for me with no charger change (intelligent drive pack is new.
August 26, 2025 at 7:13 pm #311823Hi
I’m probably being very naive but totally new to this EV lark.
Changing MB car soon and best options look like being an EV.
ATM Enyaq, Ioniq 5 or EV6 are shortlist.
This has probably been covered but 17 pages so asking anyway. Is the electric secure i.e can anyone plug in if we’re not there or can they unplug my car.
We do have a camera / floodlight covering drive.
Thanks

You need to set a schedule on the charger so it only works when you are charging. The car will lock the charging plug into the cars connector so it’s not easily removeable.
August 26, 2025 at 7:55 pm #311825Mines is old school lol. Just plug and play and all schedules set by car. It does have a key to lock it but I never use it. Car locks connector in and can only be took out when keys are present.
August 26, 2025 at 8:00 pm #311826If you’re getting your charger through Motability It’ll probably be an Ohme charger. If so, you can lock the buttons so that nobody can just use your charger when you’re not there.

I see, all witchcraft and wizardry then. No armed guards required. Guessed it was possible, just wondered how.

if you get the Ohme charger you also get the option to approve every charge if you want more peace of mind.
October 8, 2025 at 6:31 pm #315154Finding EV tariff details on line is like searching for hen’s teeth. Link below was helpful
https://www.sunsave.energy/solar-panels-advice/exporting-to-the-grid/best-ev-charging-tariffs
My current EDF tariff is ending (EMPower exclusive 1 yr deal as EDF supplied/fitted solar panels/battery etc).
Seems best deal (as of Oct 2025) is So Energy ‘So EV’ tariff; Off-peak rate (p/kWh) £0.065
Time period 12am-5am
Peak rate (p/kWh) £0.26
Standing charge (p/day) £0.4592Question: Anyone on So Energy EV tariff? Experience using the Ohme Home Pro with So Energy? (some companies state you have to use their app for EV charging). Thanks
blah, blah, blah
