As above- I really dont want to get this wrong!
Currently with Scottish power – their EV saver tariff offers 12am to 5am cheap rate but they’ve told me I need to use 40% of my electricity between those hours? Seems radical- we dont run appliances overnight ( previous appliance fire experienced)
Their add on tariff doesn’t have EV3 vehicle listed.
I hear there are issues with Octopus Intelligence with Ohme- but assume Octopus Go is ok if I scheduled Charging via the Ohme?
Have also see good offers via B Gas and EDF- any experience of these suppliers with Ohme chargers? Is it possible to get the ‘intelligent ‘ charging with a supplier who can work with Ohme AND the EV3?
Thanks in advance

I have an Ohme charger, Octopus IOG and a VAG car and it works just fine. I do use white goods overnight. I let Octopus take control of charging, in that I don’t have a schedule in the car and the charger is dumb.
If you are not using white goods overnight, there may be a more suitable plan for you. A friend uses OVO for example.

July 20, 2025 at 11:59 am #309878Our home is with Octopus Intelligent Go, not only a good rate of 7p kwh for six hours from 23.30 for the whole house, but is also applied during the day when demand is low. We use a Ohme ePod, works well. Really pleased with the company.

TVS- good to know OIGo works with your Ohme epod- does your car appear on the Octopus list? The EV3 doesn’t. Thanks
July 20, 2025 at 1:20 pm #309882Most energy providers advise shifting circa 40% of peak rate electricity to those cheaper hours. This is because the day rate pence per kWh is inflated above the standard variable rate in most cases, which essentially loses access to cheap electricity fixes. However, you don’t have to, and in most circumstances you’ll still be better off than running an ICE.
I’m with Octopus Go with my PHEV—my last bill saw me using 152.6 kWh (£12.35). At the peak rate, I used 149.7 kWh (£41.63) ex vat. So when you offset how much petrol it would have cost to cover 400 miles a month compared to how much it cost in electricity taking my daughter to and from school, I have still saved a small fortune even though I haven’t shifted any daytime electricity to the cheap off-peak hours! As an electrician, I don’t advise running white goods, etc., overnight whilst asleep; neither does the fire brigade.
Intelligent tariffs are slightly different, but the same basis applies.

VAG means Volkswagen Group, so basically anything VW, Skoda, Seat, Audi, Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini and Bugatti, as well as Scania, Ducati and MAN.
Octopus Intelligent Go is by far the best EV tariff you can order – i’d give Octopus a ring and ask questions, their customer support tends to be capable.
Part of the reason is the comparatively reasonable rates for charging (for us, 7p at night, 28p day) – another is their App (called Octopus Electroverse) which comes with an RFID card that you can use on the vast majority of UK chargers (over a million chargepoints by now, if i remember that right). If you’re on the Intelligent Go tariff, you also get 8% off on any of those chargers (including Ionity and Gridserve, the two big ones next to Tesla which might join in the future too). And, conveniently, you can pay through your electric bill.
Sounds like i’m a salesman, i’m not – we’re just really happy with them.
edit: reason for call, Octopus IntGo does support the EV6, so the call would be to ask whether or not it already is supported, and if not, when it will (inevitably) be. It’s a brand new car in the UK, so might take a few to get the app and backend updated. I’d ring and ask.
edit2 odd. The EV4 is supported, the EV3 isn’t in the list. Ohme chargers are supported though. As i said.. I’d definitely give them a ring and sort it out – if everything is compatible, that’s the best and most comprehensive tariff to go for.

July 20, 2025 at 2:31 pm #309890Yes my Kia EV6 is on the list on both Ohme and Octopus so had no problems linking up. Use the Ohme app on my phone to set the charge and approve it when plugging in. Plug it in during the day and it charges as well when it can @ 0.7p.

Thats not bad and similar to what I’m getting day rate at on OG, which will end in August.

I would check with Ovo to see if you are still getting the 7p rate because from 15/7/25 you can only charge your car via the Charge Anytime app and charging through the Ohme charger no longer works ( this is what is stated in email received from Ovo) unless they are allowing a little leeway to anyone who has not switched to Charge Anytime app yet?.The EV3 is included in the beta trial so should be fine to charge.I believe Ovo are the only energy supplier that your peak rate does not increase when you add on Charge Anytime to your Ovo account,I currently am paying 22.07 (1 year fix) but as the price cap has dropped (only £10 since January) you may be able to get a slightly lower deal than the one I got.

Sorry I meant to say Charging direct through the Ohme app is no longer available but the Ohme charger is still good to use.

TVS is with Octopus, but never the less a very valid point 🙂
July 21, 2025 at 9:43 am #309925Yes I do find Octopus/Ohme to be ideal for me charging at home. I have found that my household electric costs have stayed the same even with charging the car. Running 2 x Fridge/Freezers (One in the Garage) TV/ AV units on stand by overnight on transfering to the Intelligent Octopus Go tariff is great on the pocket.
