I ordered my car on 18 December and my charger is being installed next week on Friday 24th January
January 16, 2025 at 3:10 pm #296259I have an EV and the Ohme charger from Motability. It took about three months to get the charger but this was because Ohme’s contractor tried to charge additional costs that I felt were outrageously over priced and did not meet my needs. The initial order was put on hold whilst I arranged appropriate work to be completed myself. The process then restarted with a different contractor and was completed (very professionally) within three weeks.
From many comments on the forum, it seems to depend on your assigned installer as much as any specific needs for your property.
January 16, 2025 at 3:41 pm #296263It depends on the installers. Ours was installed about a month after we ordered the car, it then sat redundant for 8 months until the car was delivered.

January 16, 2025 at 5:01 pm #296266Do they connect on to the outside electric meter or the internal fuse board ?

A connection will be made in the outside meter box and connect to a small consumer unit at the side of the meter box, which will then feed the charger.
January 16, 2025 at 5:54 pm #296268Anyone tell me length of charging cable that comes with scenic
January 16, 2025 at 6:13 pm #296269Ohme chargers which are installed by Motability have a 5 meter charge cable or 8 meters and an extra cost
January 16, 2025 at 8:38 pm #296273gazzagaz the Scenic comes supplied with a 6.5 metre charging cable.
January 17, 2025 at 7:42 am #296285Mine was installed about a month after ordering the car then sat idle for 4 months until delivery. A standard installation so no delays.

I paused the installation after ordering the car and then when I received notification of car availability I restarted the installation process (which was approx 3 weeks). My main issue was space near the meter for an isolation switch, but all in all a pretty straightforward process and free, which is great (10 years ago I had to pay £700+ for a 3kw wall charger).
blah, blah, blah
January 18, 2025 at 4:11 pm #296349Mine was refused by Ohme , they sent out an inspection guy, not the local installer, reason given was the site for the charger was too far from the fusebox and it was a listed building.
Funny thing was – we had already run two 6mm cables and had a fully working 7kw dumb charger on the wall, we just wanted a straight swap (which I know they have done for other motability customers, so it’s not because there was one there already). House already upgraded to a 100a supply etc, it was the simplest of jobs. As for being listed, the local planners don’t care, as long as it’s not on the front of the building & no cables are run around the outside of the building. Been there, got consent in 2021, so swapping a small box for another small box…
I was looking forward to switching to Intelligent Octopus or one of the other offered smart cheap rates. Seems whenever Motability offer a charger, I just have to do it myself (the old BP offer, they never got back to me after I sent all the pics etc, so I organised the current dumb charger install in 2021) .
In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.
January 19, 2025 at 2:19 pm #296367I think if it gets rejected (shouldn’t butv you never no) in will just install one myself from another company .as i live in middle of nowhere i will get something towards it
