Hi all, anyone use OVO energy for their EV charging?
Ive ordered a ŠKODA Elroq for Mid May, my EV charger is being fitted in 2 weeks. I’m with Octopus at present and was going to use their cheap rate for charging EV.
However, I’ve spotted the offer from OVO, for 30k free miles of charge for ordering a VW or ŠKODA .
Is OVO a good company to work with and is their app ok?

@Wonky Just a word of caution regarding OVO’s 30 K free miles of charge for ordering a VW or Skoda.
About 18 months back I made a post on OVO forums about this. In short, it only is applicable if you actually purchased the VW or Skoda. Motability vehicle’s were excluded from this offer!.
Here is the forum article and my post to it regarding the above. scroll down to comments to read the replies.

@joss @Blastoise186Hey both!
I followed up on Joss’s question to get an answer directly from the team in charge. They’ve advised “Motability wouldn’t be applicable, this is for customers that have purchased directly from VWG”
The Motability programme isn’t eligible at this time. If any customers on the programme would like to take advantage of the partnership, they can do so as independent customers. If anyone has any follow-up questions, please let me know 😊

This was posted last week in the offers thread. Would be worth looking into.
April 10, 2025 at 2:54 pm #304114I thought I’d check if there’s any energy supplier deals on purchasing a Hyundai – there is, with Octopus – but alas, MB is excluded 😕
April 11, 2025 at 5:40 am #304130Just to confirm, the t&c’s for the OVO & VW/Skoda/Cupra 0ffer does state it applies to Motability vehicles until 31st May 2025:

Same wording for Cupra.
April 11, 2025 at 8:10 am #304138Hi Big Dave, many thanks for that info.
I will phone OVO later, just to check on the details of using their scheme as opposed to Octopus who I was going to use.
Regards, wonky
April 11, 2025 at 11:00 am #304148I’ve been with Ovo for 4 months and not encountered any problems (mostly through great advice given on here).Don’t get too hung up with the 30k free miles, that’s £210 at the current Ovo Charge Anytime rate, which is still nice but not enough imo to steer anyone away from a car they may be wanting but is not on the list for the 30k offer.
April 11, 2025 at 4:45 pm #304167Hi Mike, Ive already ordered an Elroq, and am with Octopus,so if OVO are as good as Octopus to use , I might as well have the free miles (£200 ish).
It’s taken 4 weeks getting advice etc to understand Octopus. So any quirks about OVO would be helpful.
Thanks, Regards, wonky
April 12, 2025 at 11:34 am #304209Hey wonky,I’ve had no problems whatsoever with Ovo so not yet tested their customer service. On the monthly bill you get it just says Charge Anytime and gives you just the amount credited back, nothing else regarding dates or ev usage.I keep track of it just by writing down each usage and working out the full charge at peak rate, then minus the Charge Anytime 7p rate, thought it best to do this as it is simple to pick up on any discrepancy on the Ovo bill. You get credited the difference back the following month but cut off date is around the 15th of the month so if you did a charge this month after the 15th you would not get that credited back until your June bill.I suppose the big test will be if/when any problem occurs and how efficient Ovo are at dealing with it but all good so far.
May 30, 2025 at 3:02 pm #306012Know this was a while ago but definitely works with Motability cars (had email to confirm credit to account today). I added my order number (got from dealer) it took about 1 week to confirm once sent to OVO. Now just waiting for the car 🤞.
May 30, 2025 at 3:21 pm #306014I am with OVO
The charger they fitted was OHME
The app is good – I find it easy to use and when it is plugged in you can pre condition car whilst sat in the front room – great on frosty mornings – no more scrapping or waiting in the car – also useful on hot days if car is in the sun – if this is any use to you I’m happy to send you a pic of charger on the wall 👍
June 1, 2025 at 4:42 am #306057Looks like Ohme has beeen dropped from Ovo’s cheap 7p Charge Anytime rate for new CA subscribers.
Also rumours floating about the net that Ohme are pulling the plug in mid July for all integration with Ovo’s CA add on.
I’m an ovo customer & already on the CA add on with my MB Ohme charger, so interesting times ahead

From Thursday 22 May customers signing up to Charge Anytime will no longer be able to onboard with their Ohme charger. This doesn’t affect customers currently onboarded with Ohme and Charge anytime. If you have an Ohme charger and a compatible EV, you’ll be able to sign up to Charge Anytime via your vehicle instead.
To sign up to Charge Anytime you must be an OVO customer and have an eligible car or charger. We’re constantly looking to open up the eligibility to more EV models and chargers –Tom…
June 1, 2025 at 7:13 am #306062I was part of Ohme crowd flex trial – basically encouraging you to plug in more often and they would decide when to send charge to the car – so power is sent at lower demand times – they gave out rewards for doing this – I don’t do a big mileage – so for me about £8 a month in Amazon credit – they are meant to be starting another trial in July that I will also be part of.
June 2, 2025 at 10:41 pm #306155Just ordered a Škoda Elroq. Motability are going to fit an Ohme charger (which is actually my preferred option). The OVO terms and conditions say until September 2025 and that Motability cars are included.
So far so good, but it you click on the link in the T&Cs, Ohme is no longer listed (and yet they must know that Ohme is Motability’s charging partner).
So should I even bother switching? Currently with Octopus.
June 2, 2025 at 10:59 pm #306157Ohme have confirmed that it will cease all integration with Ovo’s Charge Anytime add on on the 15th July,
meaning no smart charging & no cheap CA 7p rate for vehicle charging thru Ohme
Charging will continue to work past the 15th at the full kWh cost.
If you have an Ohme charger and a compatible EV, you’ll be able to sign up to Charge Anytime via your vehicle instead.

From 15 July Ohme chargers will no longer be compatible with Charge Anytime. We’ve recently updated the technology behind Charge Anytime. This is so we can keep making improvements and create new products that reward customers for driving EVs.
It’s not been possible to integrate Ohme with this new technology. If you have an Ohme charger you’ll still be able to sign up to Charge Anytime by connecting with an eligible vehicle. We’re constantly looking to open up the eligibility to more EV models so if you don’t see your EV here, keep an eye on our page.
You can see all eligibility details in our Charge Anytime page here.
June 3, 2025 at 4:32 pm #306206Not looking forwards to charging the car directly to Ovo as people doing this have reported multiple problems with regard to reliable charging. My car is eligible for this but if yours is not eligible you would have to change supplier I suppose (or get another charger!!).Not good.
June 3, 2025 at 4:52 pm #306207Looks like amongst other things, pre condition will not be available via direct charging with Charge Anytime app.So Ohme charger will sit there unused after 15th July.Waste of £1k by Motability by the looks of it.
June 3, 2025 at 4:57 pm #306208Yes I currently have a Kona EV which is on the beta list – but all being well I pick up my new Motability Elroq – which is on the main list at the end of July.
The beta Kona is the trial I have been participating on – so I think it should transfer fairly smoothly for me – more luck than judgement.
It wouldn’t impact me very much anyway as I do quite a low mileage.
June 3, 2025 at 5:04 pm #306209Skoda apparently have their own app to allow preconditioning both for the battery and the car – I suspect I’m not going to understand any real everyday impact until I have it – so I think I’m just gonna chill until the swop and see what impact it makes to me if any – looking forward to the new car tho 👍

Mike, you could change to Octopus intelligent or move to a tariff like EON next drive, although the likes of EON aren’t intelligent tariffs, you do get 7hrs cheap charging.
June 3, 2025 at 9:44 pm #306224Cheers for the reply kezo
I meant to say Ohme charger will just be used as a dumb charger after 15th July onwards for me.Im not a Octopus intelligent fan at all as I don’t believe it will suit my lifestyle (using non peak times is not an option) and as I am just due to get my pension in a months time I’m very much set in my ways.Eon is very much one I will take a look at if charging does not run smoothly via charging directly from car to Ovo,so thanks for the heads up.
June 4, 2025 at 10:04 am #306249Eon are doing a trial of intelligent charging but only for certain cars to start with. I am on eon next drive and I like it as its simple. I know where I am and always charge at 6.7p.
I prefer to set the schedule and % to reach in the car but if not you can just set the tariff up and then set the price cap at 6.7p which I had to do as I have a Mach e on loan, but I don’t on my EX30.
As the mach e seems to priorities % over time. But then it is a strange charging system setup, so maybe it was because it needed a charge at my home first to know the speed, to calculate if it could reach the % set by 7am. Something I need to check and see if Removing the PC it now starts at 00.00 not straight away. As yesterday it said it would be done by well before 7am to 90% soc.
If you need to charge more than what you can put in over the 7hrs at night, then other tariffs are better for you, but if you don’t then it’s great. Plus the actual peak electric rate and gas isn’t much higher than I was paying before I got the EV.
For us that matters as my wife works from home and we are now home schooling our daughter. I have shifted some usage to overnight like the dishwasher and the ice cube maker and some occasional other stuff, but never the dryer. Although sometimes we put it on a 6am after doing a wash overnight.
