@wigwam ‘X-Trail never was built in Sunderland, HammerHead.’
And never will be mate!
Nissan is expected to announce that it is cancelling a planned investment at its plant in Sunderland.

Hi Chris,
Throwing my 2 penneth worth in…
2nd car on scheme X-Trail 1.6DCi Tekna, now in 4th year on a 1 year extension. 1st car Sportage.
We have looked at/test driven the following in the last several months…
Peugeot 3008/5008 GT – steering wheel reminds me of driving a go-kart.
Mazda CX 5 Sport Nav – Very good allrounder until the 2.2 D AWD disappeared.
Sportage GT S – All the bells and whistles you could wish for.
Tiguan Allspace Match/R Line Tech – I would have ordered the R Line until I found out there was no heated steering wheel option.
Skoda Kodiak – Very Tank like. Max AP and extra for a sunroof, really?
Renault Koleos – Comfortable but no sunroof option in 4WD! – What ?
BMW X1 – Everything seems to be an optional extra.
MB GLA 220 – Ditto above.
CRV/Outlander/Tuscan – not my cup of tea for one reason or another.
As you can probably tell, I am looking for the largest/spacious SUV for practical needs with as many bangs for bucks as I can get. Performance/AWD would be nice but I will compromise for the former. To that end I am still persuing the X-Trail.
I know it is not on the scheme but after much ‘digging’ I can confirm that ‘limited’ stock only variants are still available and Motability are happy to sell them. At present I am waiting to hear back from a dealer on specific model/colour availability and sincerely hope to be in an upgrade in the next couple of months.
Fingers crossed.
PS – besides Honda pulling out, I heard that the X-Trail is no longer going to be built in Sunderland 🙁
Hi Zaheer76,
Let us know what you think and if you can find out what models will be on in Q2 that would be great 🙂
Just tried ordering a Tiguan R Line Tech with a heated steering wheel. Apparently this new model has a different wheel and the heated option is no longer available 🙁 Dealer thought I was joking when I said this was a deal breaker for me.

Ok, just got off the phone with Motability (for a different matter – but I also was interested in the Rav 4 Hybrid)…
Incidentally, I also asked about new cars coming onto the scheme in the 2nd Quarter and was told to expect a significant number of new arrivals. I then pressed for ‘what exactly’ and was told ‘too many to go through individually’ so asked about the Rav 4 Hybrid.
Response : The Rav 4 Facelift model will appear in the 2nd quarter but no details yet as to trim.
Ok, just got off the phone with Motability and to clarify/confirm, you cannot specify a different model (which is not on the scheme) and fund the difference yourself.
I did query why the following appears on their website…
‘You can choose a high spec model with additional options if you feel you have sufficient funds to cover the cost yourself.’
But the guy stuck to his guns.
So in order to spec a Match to an SEL trim I would have to spend £2595. If I could have gone for the SEL it would ‘only’ have cost £2100. Like I said, Crazy!

Trev…
Did you write somewhere (to the effect) that if a particular model (Allspace Match) was on the scheme then you could ask Motability if you could upgrade to the Allspace SEL on account of it having heated seats which would allow me to drive my wife about on cold days without her back playing up?
With this in mind, I looked at the Match 2.0TDI 4Motion – AP = £1449 and added the extras to bring it up to the desired spec.
Heated Wheel 110 – Winter Pack 280 – Sun roof 1130 – 360 view 300 – Active Info 590 and Voice active 185 – Total for Extras = 2595.
If I were to goto Motability and ask if I could have the SEL then the difference would be 1505 but I would still have to add the Heated Wheel 110 – 360 view 300 and Voice active 185 – Total for extra = 595.
So comparing apples with apples Match = 2595 and SEL = 2100. Cheaper to upgrade – Crazy! or am I missing something.
Hi BackCountryBob,
Thanks for confirming that 🙂
I’ve always thought that dealers where akin to a ‘postcode lottery’ like a lot of things in this present day. My local VW dealer in Wigan doesn’t seem to care much and so I echo your sentiments on trust, which is why I am giving Salford a try (based on your recommendation).
Will let you know how it goes 🙂
PS: The guy I am talking to is Terrence (don’t know if Rick is still there but I will check on Sunday).
Hi Bob,
Did I read somewhere that you were in Sheffield and placing the order with a VW dealer in Manchester/Salford?
Cheers.
Hi Wonky,
‘However on Motability it has 148bhp but on VW it has 190 bhp, can anyone explain?’
Press the scroll bar mate 😉
Going to view/possibly order 1 of these on Sunday 🙂

My lease ends in March, can I hold onto my car a bit longer or does it have to be a year?
My wife and I just extended due to all the malarkey with diesels being dropped (couldn’t get an X-trail or CX-5 for love nor money. Finally called motability and given choice of extending for 1 or 2 years, with the proviso that you can change at any point 🙂 Also the good condition bonus goes up to £500 end of year 4 and £800 end of year 5.
Anyways hope to see the X-trail hybrid and Rav-4 hybrid in the next month or so. Anyone know what motabilitys take on general is re hybrids as they do not see to be so Pro Green?
