I wonder if they’re trying to put a greater distance between the power output of the S and the PHEV so it might push more people towards the PHEV?
On my Golf, to get the overall mileage you need to turn off the acc using the button on the steering wheel. The speed limit is then replaced with an overall mileage figure. I’m guessing the Ateca will be similar?
With acc it’s obviously affected by the car in front. When you’ve got cruise on it keeps you at a constant speed but more often than not you’ll find that the car in front won’t be using cruise so their speed will constantly change. This means you’ll regularly be slowing down and speeding up to keep to the set distance.
When I got my golf, I thought the menu systems were quite complicated as it’s very customisable. I’d like to think you’ll be able to access other types of consumption, average, since refuel, long term etc but just need to figure out the buttons. I’d be surprised if that info wasn’t available. I’ve had my golf for 3 years and i still can’t whizz through all the menus to find what I want.
The gtd used to be on the scheme but it seems to me like motability are moving away from diesels so the 1.5etsi r line might be the highest spec we see. Which to be fair, is the top spec once you take away the performance models.
I wasn’t convinced with the golf 8 at first but now that I’ve seen more pictures I like the looks and the interior looks good too. The golf has been highly praised in the motoring world for years and it’s box style means it’s easier to get in/out than some other hatchbacks.If I was looking for a hatchback right now the Golf would probably be top of my list along with the Leon. Similar cars but the Leon is a bit more sporty. I also think the 1 series hatchback isn’t too bad AP wise so if you don’t have too much difficulty getting in/out of a low car then that would be worth a look too. I’ve had Golfs and Leon’s in the past so can speak for them but I don’t have much experience with any other hatchbacks.
I think EV’s are like any car in that they’re suitable for some and not others at the moment. EV’s are still new compared to ICE cars so I’m not expecting them to be perfect yet. It’s easy to see at how quickly they’re improving and I’m sure we’ll eventually get to the point where they’re suitable for most.
For me at the moment, I think an EV would fit my lifestyle with very few problems. I’ve always said that Id not get an EV that I’d have to charge more than once a week. With EV ranges improving it won’t be long before I increase that to once a fortnight. That’s just one of my personal criteria.
Also, I don’t see why anyone should have to compromise on their car any more than they need to. Many disabled people already have a hard enough time trying tyo get a car thats right for them and that’s before worrying about what it’s powered by. For some, planning a journey is difficult enough without having to check ahead to make sure there are charging points along the way etc etc.
This goes back to my first point that EV’s are currently suitable for some and not others
