Thanks, everyone, my VW Golf order has been cancelled and deposit refunded, and I test drove the Sportage this morning and was really really pleased with it, in comparison to the VW Tiguan I previously had, it feels much more premium.
Looking at end of June delivery.
Thank @kezo – a bit of both I live in a village, use rural roads to get to other towns but also have A road dual tracks up to 70mph by me too! so I presume this I come under combination driving?
Thanks for the info about PPF. Just took a look online, I was looking at a HEV.
Great news @catdog1121 sounds like your enjoying it! there’s definitely a quality difference between ford and VW I have noticed since going from a VW to a Ford I am now going back to a VW!
Still waiting on my R-Line apparently being built this week was brought forward two weeks and then pushed back 2 weeks! Will be worth the wait!
I agree with @kezo in writing the letter to Skoda, the sub is not of satisfactory quality, in the letter factor in the sales ‘push’ and mention about the colour you wanted and the cost and tell them you felt pressured, being a Motability customer you are more vulnerable to the ‘sales pitch’ of extras etc,. Dependant of your needs.
It was also probably me Kezo is thinking of, I used the ‘sales contract/agreement’ which I signed against VW as they said I couldn’t have the optional extras cost back even though the car I had; had manufacturing fault and was a ‘known’ fault.
I likened the experience of constant pinging every 30 seconds for the 2 hours a day I drove the car to ‘sound torture’, told them I would be taking them to small claims as they hadn’t actually formed a contract for the optional extras and no where in the sales form did it state that I couldn’t get refunded for it, even within all the T&C’s, and I would be seeking damages aswell, this went from the dealership all the way to VW Germany compliance team and within the same week I got an offer of the extras refunded so long as I signed a ‘non fault agreement’ meaning I couldn’t pursue them in the future for that matter.
This is slightly different as I handed the car back due to a manufacturing fault.
It could be said that the sound system is faulty, have a google see if anyone else is having the same issues on other forums as I used other forum Q&A’s as evidence which I screenshotted and printed, showing the issue was known from a certain date and not limited to the same model vehicle.
Use the Consumer Rights Act 2015 there is a tool you can use yo make a letter template on Which Consumer under ‘use our faulty goods tool’. Although I didn’t feel it was enough my letter setting out my complaint and evidence was 4 pages long!
My extras were just over £1000, sun roof and spare wheel.
£2,035 IMO is a lot of money but having a look at the pack it is a reasonable amount for what you get; head up display, heated front and rear seats, heated windscreen, sound system and crystal face. It works out to £407 per extra within that pack. At the very least you could argue for £407 of that back as a last resort.
It also matters if whether that pack is what you wanted or were you ‘sold on it’, as we know they can get commission for selling the extra packs.
Something worth considering when you send your complaint in.
I wouldn’t settle if you’re not happy.
I had a Tiguan R- Line 2.0 TDi 150 4motion and it was surprisingly quick, wasn’t sluggish at all. about 1-2 seconds behind the Golf 0-60.
Gone for the same engine and transmission in the Golf R-Line this time round.
Not a huge EV or Hybrid fan, most people I know have had nothing but problems with batteries and or charging or lack thereof and the lack difference in WLTP when the weather is cold and dependant on where its driven and how its driven.
I looked at the Skoda Enyaq, on their website it shows you the types of roads and weather conditions and give you an idea what the Enyaq would give you; for me Rural and in the winter would be 150 miles. I do that mileage in 1 – 2 days. Summer it says the full 350 which would still leave me charging every 4-5 days an ICE Diesel lasts me over a week.
The franchise of dealership, makes a difference, I have two VW near me both 20-30 mins drive in opposite directions, one where I had my last VW from was awful customer service, yet their Audi garage (part of same group) couldn’t be more welcoming, the dealership in the opposite direction however was VW Skoda and they couldn’t have been more welcoming, no VW Motability accredited staff in so the Boss of the dealership brought one over from Skoda to VW to place my order for a Golf. He’s updated me monthly and honestly can’t fault them.
It definitely varies.
That’s great news! I hope she likes her new car!. I was debating with changing my order from a golf to something else, but so far no luck in anything suitable or economical, EV isn’t an option. limited ICE diesel options and the R-Line has now been removed, so glad I didn’t!.
@catdog1121 The golf 8.5 infotainment screen , I agree is too big for the golf, it looks ok in the new Tiguan, but I prefer the size of the screen and the sleekness of the 8!.
@lukey199711 Looks like build weeks are similar, mine is currently build week 7, it was build week 6, pushed back a week in the space of a month. However with the 8.5 imminent I presume the Mk8 books will be closing soon if not already, given the build weeks we have are very close, when did you place your order?Jeez, what a kerfuffle over nothing. There are 2 order forms, one from Motability. Another is the factory order form from the dealership. I signed one to oder a factory vehicle, and on that order was the owner, Motability sale, and the price was the AP. This order form is required to initiate the factory order. The vehicle was ordered by this form before my renewal window opened. Given the long wait times for factory orders, some dealers like to do it this way. As for a deposit requested by the dealer, it must be done in writing and signed by the customer. The deposit scheme must be ok with motability.
Well put. I’m amazed by some of the claims on here by “experts” I didn’t sign anything when I ordered my last car and , because of an AP drop, the dealer cancelled my Motobility order and re ordered without touching the internal sales order. If anyone cares to log onto their online account, press the leasing link and open the PDF, it shows that the owner of the car is Motobility Operations, we are the hirer from Motobility and the dealer is the supplier. If Motobility is the owner then we cannot enter into any legal agreement with a third party for a product we don’t own. The deposit is an agreement between you and the dealer to hold a reservation, similar to a restaurant table etc and if you cancel is subject to the understanding between the two of you. It does not prevent you from withdrawing. I think there is too much argument of principle and not reality.
Agreed! The only reference of “deposit” Motabililty makes, refers to the advance payment or part of, if the dealer requests this. The reason no one will ever have to pay a cancellation fee or loose their deposit, is because it would not be legally enforceable. At no stage do we ever enter into a legally binding contract with the dealer as we are not the “purchasers”. The only legally binding contract that we enter into, is with Motability Operations once we have entered the PIN on collection day. Dealers may try it on and withhold any depost (if you payed one) but will soon back down once challenged with legall action or small claims court. A dealer would have to prove in a court of law, that they have lost out financially, which would be very difficult indeed because (a) you are not the purchaser (b) They would be financially better off selling the car to a retail customer. The only time an enforeable contract is made between you and the dealer, is if you were to choose additional extra’s, such as factory fitted options, which do “not” form part of your agreement with Motability Operations and are treated seperately. If you are asked to pay a deposit upfront, other than for optional extras save yourself the hassle and place an order with a different dealer/group. For those who think I and others are wron’t, I recommend you get a free 3o minute consultation with a solicitor!
@kezo – I am not the purchaser on a vehicle I lease because I do not have the vehicle yet (essential in what I am saying) and the contract/order form is the dealership’s paperwork not MB’s paperwork. What I did do was sign the paperwork as a purchaser of the ‘order’ for a vehicle I do not yet have, however once that order is then finalised by hand over of the car; be it lease by finance firms or MB then that transfers to them being the purchaser (MB)
If I sign something that states on the form ‘purchaser’ and my signature is next to it, it references me within the T&C’s when it states ‘purchaser’ whether or not I am the purchaser at the end of the process (when the car is handed over and the pin is put in) Because it is factual that I have signed my name next to that specific use of wording within that contract or “order agreement”.
To explain this way on how doing so actually benefitted me:
I signed the order document stating purchaser on my last vehicle , because I signed this order agreement and I ordered optional extras on a faulty vehicle, no where within that agreement (the same one that lists deposits being non refundable) did it state that my optional extras would also be non refundable should fault arise given CRA 2015 .
The contract or order agreement is not only for the purposes of the business/dealership but also for the customer too.
I relied upon that contract when I had a faulty vehicle. MB wouldn’t intervene in regards to the Optional extra payments (within their T&C’s), I relied solely upon that ‘contract’ where I signed as ‘purchaser’ the CRA 2015 a few piece’s of online forum ‘evidence’ to enable me to get my optional extra money back.
My argument of legal facts to get refunded for the optional extras went direct to VW compliance team in Germany and it was agreed that no separate contract was made in relation to the optional extras and I would be refunded but they didn’t agree to ‘any fault’ even though it was evidenced by words ‘faulty part’ on a video vehicle check by the dealership technician and I specifically used the CRA 2015, and the threatening of small claims court, I couldn’t be bothered with another court case as I was already in the midst of one and agreed to sign just to be done with it, it is after all what I was seeking.
I relied upon that specific document that I signed with the dealership when I placed the order that referred to me as the ‘purchaser’, because apparently the optional extra charges go direct to the manufacturer and the AP goes to MB, hence no involvement from MB in regards to optional extras as per their T&C’s.
It’s best for all MB customers to check especially, if your not comfortable handing money over you may loose or have to fight to get back, and always ask the question too.. what if I cancel my order what happens to my deposit?
Let’s face it the majority of MB customers are vulnerable in one aspect or another in life.
This forum should be to support each other not to say who’s right or wrong.
I run a business and have T&C’s for my customers which is specific to deposits.
Once they sign the document that T&C is enforceable so long as we as a business have complied with other regulations and laws that would allow the T&C to be enforceable such as those defined within the CRA 2015 (fit for purpose, as described, of satisfactory quality)
We are also considering the possibility that different dealerships/franchises will have different forms and different T&C’s.
Maybe it should just be specific to being a Motability order, to prevent them of ways they can get around taking money from people who are already vulnerable.
Don’t get me wrong; I have studied law, worked in retail and in a car dealership and then on for well known corporations in the UK to now running my own business.
I have successfully got my money back using said ‘contract’ for prior car from order with MB.
I have succeeded in every single claim I have ever made regarding refunds including the whirlpool tumble dryer farce where I actually had a washing machine and tumble dryer both faulty at the same time and I got current retail price refunded rather than the price I paid (£980 back for £450 worth of goods).
Honestly, I am known to get things ‘free’ and know how to get my money back! But it’s all about knowing what you are signing when you are signing it and using it to your advantage.
Should I wish to find a way to get my deposit back, believe me when I say it, yes I will, where there’s a will there’s a way!
From my experience and what I can evidence is that the document i’ve personally signed for MB orders through a dealerships is a dealership order agreement where I signed for the order to be processed on the system, my signature is next to the wording ‘purchasers signature’ the meaning of purchasers signature and the definition of that would be down to dealership to prove what is meant by it if not already defined within their T&C’s, but at the time of signing I would have reasonably known it formed a contract with me ‘purchaser’ to enable the dealership to place an order which then in turn meant the T&C’s that correspond to the document would define me therein as the ‘purchaser’ . Whether or not I purchase the vehicle in the end or the means of how the vehicle is purchased would not; at the time of the document being signed, be considered as it is not yet relevant, there is intent but the deal is not ‘done’ (until pin is put in and transferred to being both MB contract and dealership)
This includes where a deposit can be used for ‘consideration’ – a good, profit or service.
My personal business T&C’s state ‘customer’ but within the parameters of the T&C’s it states – Customer ‘you’ referenced by the persons name and address on the document and therein of the T&C’s ‘you’ refers to the customer whose name and address is on the document.
Knowledge is power and to know what your’e signing before you sign it is essential for everyone.
I mean other peoples orders on here may not have those T&C’s about deposits or their dealership might not take deposits, I think what matters is that people are aware if they are paying a deposit what it could mean if they cancel and being prepared for that.
Really there should be something in place to prevent this; because again our needs can change in an instant and mean we need to cancel an order and change vehicle, and I agree that its not fair for someone to loose their deposit, I would kick up a fuss to get deposit back even if I knew what I signed but that’s just me and some people simply don’t have the capacity, will power or strength.
Knowing what you are fighting before you fight it is key.
We fight a hard enough system as it is.
I have a child with SEND (non verbal/ SLCN, ASD,SPD,ADHD,ARFID) and know other parents of children with SEND and I help them out (successfully may I add) to get the help they need including things like DLA and PIP and Tribunals.
We simply must be prepared for battle, at all times.
My post isn’t intended to argue, it’s intended to inform of my experience and what is relevant to me.
As both a consumer and a business, when you sign your name to a ‘purchase’ ‘order’ ‘contract’ whether or not you are the intended ‘owner’ ‘purchaser’ ‘user’ you still have rights, but so does the business or person you sign the document to, again its about the battle!.
Should a customer seek the money back after cancelling the order, a deposit does not mean it is automatically non-refundable, only the T&C’s stated within any order form that you sign, which says otherwise (contract)
So if you sign for the dealerships order (headed paper with dealerships name) and it states within their T&C’s deposit is non refundable then that is what you’ve signed and agreed to, whether or not the order is directly with motability ‘at the end’ when it is delivered.
Your order form has T&C’s on from the dealership and may contain contractual agreements regarding any deposit tied directly to the dealership with whom you place the order.
Best to check, they may state deposit is for admin fee’s of changing the order/ cancelling (if within their T&C’s)
If this is the case you may be able to ask the dealership to order another vehicle, make or model with said dealership/ franchise and transfer that deposit over as a way to get round loosing the deposit.
I have paid a £250 deposit on my recent order, I was told this comes off the AP when vehicle arrives but within the T&C’s it states if I cancel the order I forfeit the deposit. It refers to me as the ‘purchaser’.
Other dealerships I have used haven’t requested a deposit.
The order form states: Customer/supply to (your name or DLA/PIP persons name) then Financed by/ Invoice to: Motability.
When I signed the order form I signed on the dotted line that states : Purchasers signature, (going back to the T&C’s where it refers to ‘purchaser’ regarding deposit) therefore i forfeit the deposit if I cancel the order it relates to me because within the contract, I signed the dotted line for the order next to ‘purchasers signature’.
When we go to the dealerships and pay the AP and input the PIN, motability act like a finance company basically. You still have a contract (the order you signed with dealerships name on) to rely upon should the vehicle become faulty, and you can rely on CRA 2015.
Motability act on your behalf as they ‘own’ the vehicle as such.
I had a faulty vehicle, took it back to dealerships, wait time for part for fault was 5 months, I used CRA 2015 checked dealerships T&C’s and motability T&C’s and motability do not cover optional extras and state a contract from dealership, this didn’t happen so I chased dealership for optional extra refund as vehicle was handed back to them, they agreed on the basis I signed a non-liability form, which I was happy to as I just wanted the money back, and that was that.
So as well as having T&C’s for the dealership order contract you also have T&C’s for your financing contract/lease with Motability who ‘own’ the vehicle.
motability are great i’m on my second change of vehicle in under 3 years (1st vehicle developed fault) replacement vehicle is no longer suitable due to new medical conditions, because I have already changed once and had the fee waived I didn’t mind that I needed to pay £250 to cancel this one because the pro’s of changing outweigh the cons of keeping what I have.
They are very understanding and never had an issue with dealing with them, i’ve found everyone to be kind and understanding, when my first vehicle had faults I was contacted by motability 3 days in a row by the third day we had a resolution which was to change the car.
Same here with the gears! I have the ST Line X and wouldn’t be paying the increased AP.
As for storing and changing radio stations: find the station you like then press and hold one of the radio stations already listed to replace it! Hope that helps!
My MPG is 39.8

Take a look on the GolfMk8 forum, (not helpful but) some private buyers have been waiting 2 years for a GTD, you want to chase your dealer to see if there are any stock vehicles as the Golf 8.5 will be along soon. At least chase them for an update i’ve been updated monthly so far. It takes them a couple of minutes to respond to an email or give you a call.
I placed an order for an R-line end of October and been told Build week 6 for mine (this could change though) its best to keep yourself updated with the facelift coming too.
If the paint is classed as an optional extra, then write a letter to the dealership HQ and ask for it back as the vehicle is faulty, consumer rights.
I did this with a faulty Tiguan I had, MB gave me AP pro rata’d I then sought optional extras back from dealership as no contract was formed or signed in regard to these being paid for separately.
My complaint went to VW Compliance team in Germany and they got back within 48 hours stating I could have the money back so long as I signed a non fault agreement and would not pursue them in future for the issues I had as I was seeking damages too. I agreed as it was over £1200 I was seeking back.
So that’s a consideration but do it after they have had the car back and you have ordered something else with MB as they may contact MB, MB will say the same to you as to the dealership its nothing to do with them.
But it is possible, prepare for a fight though. Ive ordered a new car and had minimal optional extras because of this.
@catdog1121 – Ah see I was told different on the system there are essentially 2 order books one for private and one for motability and unless there is an existing order with a motability code on they could not change the order on the order book from a private order to a motability. (obviously not your experience by the sounds of it)
I asked if this is different because they are a different dealership to another VW I went to which was a VW AUDI dealership (ive ordered from VW SKODA different franchise too)
When I looked at the A3 and test drove it said they could amend any cancelled order to make it mine and would honour AP price change should it drop, the VW SKODA garage would not.
I couldn’t be bothered to drive the hour drive to the other garage to order a Golf and tbh I had poor customer service from them when I had my Tiguan.
And tbf to VW SKODA they have kept me updated, for my Tiguan at other garage I was chasing it every 6-8 weeks for an update and my sales rep left and no one told me. VW SKODA also went above and beyond for me to test drive and place my order, I actually had a SKODA sales rep because there were no VW Motability accredited ones in that day and the big boss came down for his office, introduced himself and the sales rep. That for me shows they care.
Everywhere else when you say Motability customer, their whole demeanour changes.
I hope you enjoy your GTD Golfs are lovely cars.
I had a look at the GTD, I was told by my VW dealership they can’t provide vehicles that aren’t ordered as motability orders and cancelled (open slots for whichever spec of car) and that if the system doesn’t show a motability number then they can’t order it or put it through motability as such with orders placed by private customers then cancelled these can only be sold to private customers, I’m not sure if it varies by dealership franchise? But this is consistent in two separate VW franchise dealerships I have been to. Both said the same thing.
The OH wanted the GTD I wanted the R-Line.
I ordered a R-Line also having had a VW two years ago with issues the GTD has the tech on it as standard with the issues I had with my Tiguan R-Line previously and the R-Line Golf it was an optional extra (Travel with emergency assist) For me there’s no where I could use the 200bhp to its full potential where I live anyway! But having the tech issue (car pinging every 30 seconds that was loud over the speakers and couldn’t be switched off) I was glad to see on the Golf R-line it wasn’t standard (won’t catch me paying extra for something I know has a common fault give it a google!)
Loved the DSG 2.0 Diesel on my Tiguan, tried other autos by other manufacturers and some are awful!
We all like different things though. I found the Golf comfortable and economical for my needs compared to A3 or 1 series which are similar size.
Yes, mine has to be: Getting a Tiguan DSG with the extra tech on without doing research that there is a known error/fault, and a 5 month lead time on parts to fix.
Motability had it back and said I could pick something else, I picked a Kuga 1.5 eco boost and manual – Regret!
Im now awaiting a Golf DSG regretted going back to a manual and i’ve also got newly diagnosed medical conditions which are making it really difficult for me to drive manual.
OH is doing all the driving until the Golf comes.
VW Basic model has better quality than Ford ST Line X ive also made sure it doesn’t include the tech that has common issues on.
Ford has so many noise issues too, wind getting in and random plastic tapping sounds coming from the seat belt retraction area whilst driving.
Also no longer need such a large car. Only ever me and my son in the car or me and my partner!
Give me a car that gets me A to B that’s smooth and comfortable, good on fuel and that’s all I ask for.
I posted same question better answers on the MK8 golf forum. But even there it’s varying. I ordered in October 2023 and was told a wait of ‘up to 8 months’ but an estimated delivery date of 31st May 2024. That was for a 2.0 TDI 150 R line DSG
I too have a Kuga 1.5 150 petrol st line x and I came from a faulty VW Tiguan 2.0 diesel 150 4motion DSG, back to a manual.
Have to agree, gear changes are awful on the manual, I have contacted motability who agreed I could change back to an automatic as I now have medical conditions and driving a manual isn’t as comfortable as it used to be.
Tried the PHEV and CVT is awful, high loud revs before changed gears, never had that with VW DSG. So I’ve gone back to VW and come away from having an SUV, I don’t use the full SUV space, I prefer a bigger car but gone for a Golf, and its such a pleasure to drive compared to the Kuga, can’t wait for it to arrive.
I had a 2.0 150 titanium Kuga before the Tiguan, loved it, never had gear troubles in that did great on fuel compared to this petrol version (also when fuel prices were in the 120’s or less!).
Had no issues with the overall quality of the vehicle and tech on it either. Just a shame the automatics aren’t as good as VW’s.
Also the facelift version is coming in the next few months, I know this because I used to work with the guys at my local Ford garage ( worked at ford with them elsewhere) and they messaged me to ask me if I wanted to test drive it when it came in, so anyone looking at changing, hold out for the facelift version (if you prefer that one)
Wanted to add a family member ordered an X1 M-sport in March 2023 and was told October, they have now been told March 2024 and this is a private purchase factory order.

I had a faulty motability car and I evidenced the known issue as a TPI notice was issued for it and found this online, so had knowingly been leased a vehicle not fit for its intended purpose, a constant pinging every 30 seconds and I undertake 2 hour journeys daily.
I paid for extras, I got my AP back pro-rata as I did use the vehicle up until the fault, and I also got the money back for the extras, any extras ordered are contracted directly with the garage/showroom/ manufacturer you purchase from not motability.
I sent a 2 page explanation to the garage group who forwarded this to the manufacturers Compliance team and came back with yes you can have your money back for extra’s but had to sign a ‘do not admit fault’ agreement and that once the agreement was signed I could no longer pursue them for damages and legal action as this is what I stated I would do.
So now I will only pick a higher spec car with AP and add minimal extras if at all needed after all that fuss.
At the end of the day the extras you put on the vehicle give it ‘extra after sale value’ which they will benefit from that you have paid for. So I argued as it was something I paid for but not given a separate contract for I was entitled to remove these from the vehicle or be refunded for them. so they agreed to the latter.
Motability are great actually, told me they couldn’t do anything about extras which I knew and that information is readily available after looking for it. They even waived the £250 cancellation.
I am awaiting on a 3rd car within 2 years as the one I replaced the faulty one with is no longer suitable for our needs and had to pay £250 termination fee, which I didn’t mind as I have a manual and need an automatic due to new disabilities.
Don’t be put off standing your ground and I used the Consumer Rights Act to get my extras money back and the relevant subsections within this and highlighted discrepancies and ‘no extras contract’ and the fact the issue was known by the manufacturer and they continued to sell knowingly would be another dieselgate.
I felt my proposal for persuance and knowledge of my rights helped me get over £1,000 back!
November 2, 2023 at 2:22 pm in reply to: Do you feel dealers see Motability customers as a lesser customer? #241343So my experience is:
Audi: offered a car already on the system awaiting build week and they could change spec and colour for me no problem, advised me to stay as a MB customer as I get a great deal (although he was nice I felt it was a bit pushy as he got all the order forms ready and specs and stuff and I told him I had other vehicles booked in to test drive)
Same dealership Audi but 30 min drive away had the exact car and engine to test drive and when I told them I was a MB customer he outright refused to allow me to test drive if he ‘didn’t have my custom’ ( yes, I know i’m meant to just guess its suitable then? quite contradicting scenario) so held him to his word and he rang me day after day and left message after message, I contacted him back told him what I thought about our first phone call, that I thought about it and that I had found another vehicle and was going elsewhere.
Ford I had great experience with as I know the manager and they got me a MB vehicle within 2 weeks (unfortunately its now unsuitable) after having a faulty vehicle from VW which had No 21 – Jan 23. So my current car, has to go back and I need an Automatic.
So tried a PHEV Ford Kuga and it was awful. high revs, felt every stone on the road and loud.
Back to VW : test drive arranged as they had a car in stock, took me out no problem it was a second hand car but same engine and transmission. Took his time with me offered me drinks and he was actually from the other brand at the garage which was Skoda as he was the only MB accredited in. No problem though the Manager of the garage came down from his office introduced us and, from there I went ahead and placed my order as it was the best, quickest, kindest, non judgemental service I had received. Offered me vehicles that were cancelled MB orders but they were certain colours with extras, so I decided to order and wait. He sent me an email just so I had his email should I need to contact him and ask for updates. This is a showroom that 30 mins away and my nearest is 20 mins away next to the Audi showroom. However my prior experience at that VW showroom wasn’t good at all and was a different ‘group’ company too.
I cheekily asked what they get for the MB order and he told me £60 they get from the order and he makes his most commission on aftersales; ceramic coating etc,.
I used to work in a showroom as a receptionist so the sales pitch and sly forceful techniques don’t work on me like they do most customers, also being brought up around, cars and motorbikes and anything with an engine in means I have a little more knowledge than they expect also being a young-ish female I think this takes them aback; when they try to talk to my partner and he says I don’t know anything about cars, she does though.
Theoboy am I right in saying that your sister ordered either earlier on in the year? or the beginning of this quarter where it was listed for 3 days? (1st Oct -4th) When I ordered my golf the GTD was not on the system to be able to order through VW for Motability, it does show online as a stock car available.
However Motability have taken it off the scheme so you could possibly order one just not with Motability currently.
I also believe that Golf orders now are likely to be the MY24 facelift. I haven’t had this confirmed yet but with a 7 month waiting time for a factory build and car info websites saying the MY24 Facelift (Golf 8.5) will be introduced in the 1st Quarter 2024 (meaning they will likely be in showrooms) and that they have now stopped manufacturing MY23? Obviously I don’t know the truth to this only time will tell.
But for the GTD I believe that’s gone for now on Motability, it may make a re-appearance in January in Q1, but if the facelifts are being introduced then I very much doubt it because of the cost of the car. (as you may know us motability customers get the last of the models because the newer models are more expensive, i’ve been told this by a few different manufacturer showrooms)
They asked me if I wanted a black R-line with extras which I didn’t need and I don’t do black cars either ( swirl marks it leaves after its first clean are too visible) so I refused I don’t need any extras, so it was that or a 5-7 month delivery wait, however if it is the facelift; the spec is apparently higher than the current model? so who knows.
Maybe hold out until Q1 (risking AP price increases) to see if it goes back on.
Makes sense to get a cancellation vehicle if you can and don’t mind the extras, she sounds very lucky indeed! I hope she enjoys her new car!
Had the same, I asked to test drive a car and was told that I wasn’t allowed to test drive unless they had my custom ‘over the phone’ obviously had this been face to face a different matter.
It was motability’s terms that I test drove the vehicle before ordering part of my cancellation agreement, and the nearest car spec and engine was 40 mins away but my local dealers didn’t have it in stock to test and they are only 15 mins away. So anyway it turns out Audi never got my custom, either garage.
definitely contact motability as you are so early on into your lease, they’re great. I had a VW Tiguan 2.0 DSG R Line ordered Feb 2021 and was Delivered Nov 2021. Come Winter 2022 and start of 2023 I had this continuous fault and it was confirmed and a 5 month wait for repair (unreasonable) a known fault (travel assist unavailable pinging every 30 seconds on hours round trips) and a backlog for replacement parts, anyway Motability and Dealers had conversations and agreed that I could hand the car back and get something else, I was in Dealers loan car, so I went back to what I knew a Ford Kuga but this time the ST Line X and I went back to a manual as my previous Kuga was a manual (non motability car).\
Anyway fast forward I have been diagnosed with a medical condition ontop of others that is giving me great difficulty driving a manual especially as I drive 2 hours per day term time, its been exhausting. I have only had the car since March 2023 and had to pay a £250 exit fee to start a new order/application which I processed the very next day (a week after informing them they told me to test drive cars then go back and process the cancellation) which I did.
Still got an 8 month wait for a new car, so will be using the Kuga minimally or asking the OH to drive as he usually does weekends but my god! the difference I have gone for a VW Golf same engine/ transmission/ bhp as the Tiguan and I can confirm the drive is much nicer and comfortable compared to the Kuga, didn’t I notice how stiff it was on the way home from the test drive, Made sure the golf didn’t include the travel assist though! Definitely contact them and explain.
Edit- forgot to add test drove a Kuga PHEV it was loud and jerky and I was asked to rate it out of 10 by the salesperson and I gave it a generous 7 which she said was low. I told her I didn’t like it. clearly. I also test drove an Audi A3 and the 1.0 115bhp is too slow for me A roads to B roads to Dual tracks but im pretty rural and have minimal road for overtaking tractors so needed something quick- ish.
