Another BS thing I heard today, sorry didn’t catch if it was a weekly or a monthly payment but someone who supposedly is a MB customer has bragged they get a free car and, and this is the real turd, they get £80 a week or month for, wait for it, for petrol.

Going back to abuse, I can see how some can game the system by not giving the benefit of the car to the disabled person but what gets me, how do they game getting PIP in the first place.

I say that because of the last time this sort of thing was big news back in 2010-2012 and myself having to take the DWP to court to regain my higher rate after they said I had no problem walking about. I can only assume it’s the work from home brigade doing everything over the phone.

I’ve see this many times on other forums and what their moderators do is to merge the threads if they follow a similar subject. Isn’t that something that could be looked into.

          @MickC

I’ve had a disability discount on my water bill for a few years now, or so I thought, as I was taken back a bit on the current bill when it stated my reduction is because I’m a pensioner and no mention of my disability. Maybe they just didn’t want to mention the “disabled” word because as we know being disabled is the cause of all this countries financial problem.

My water bill this year is twice as much, percentage wise, than the council tax even with a pensioners discount.

And this country seems to want to race to the bottom. People often seem to overlook that they are dealing with the most vulnerable in society.

I’ve been saying it for decades that the aspirations of this country is one day I will own my own pushbike.

especially as they are all EVs which manufacturers and dealers are pushing. I’d like to think that Motability will fight back and explain just how much it costs to join the scheme, but I guess they might be shooting themselves in the foot by doing that, as it never ceases to amaze me how many customers consider the cost to be just the AP and don’t factor in the cost of the sacrificed benefits.

Not forgetting the government themselves because if it wasn’t for Motability push in EV’s the sales figures they keep bragging about being so good in the UK would paint a very different story so that will be a bullet they will have to dig out of their foot.

I’ve often endured the Kwik-Fit depot with often being turned away to have to go back hours later, even with appointments, so now use the mobile service that I’d give 5 stars for over the depot’s who I’d give 2 stars.

I’m not sure if you can book the mobile service without a Motability online account to contact Kwik-Fit but if you haven’t got one it only takes a minute to set up.

All conjecture at this point, but the govt “people handling” playbook is offer a catastrophe, then water it down to a calamity, which we take thinking we were lucky…followed by misdirection..oh, look, a squirrel…

That’s certainly the approach taken by all governments before a budget. Leak something horrendous that’s never going to happen, so that when some bad news is announced we are just grateful that it wasn’t worse. They think we are all stupid not to see through it.

Yes that’s how it works, an example, our council wants to change bin collection from every two weeks to four weekly collection so of course everyone is up in arms about it, but in a month or so I’m sure they will come back and say they got a compromise and the bins will be collected every three weeks.

Everyone will be celebrating that they stopped the four weekly and myself knowing that the three week collection is what they had in mind in the first place.

I’d be worried if I had a Tesla with all the morons this country breeds or imports these days. 🤷‍♂️😊

Overall and generally most folk I’ve come across while unloading my scooter from my £37k car have been very helpful but I always gracefully turn down their offer of help because I like to be independent as much as I can but no matter, young or old folk often ask if I need help so there not worried about what I’m driving and like other have said, there’s cars in those BB spaces that or more expensive and newer than mine.

Sorry for digging up an old threat but just came across this today from the “Scottish Car Clan” guy and thought I’d mention it because you and WMC get a mention.

Another here who recommends the mobile service after a nightmare I had at a Kwik-Fit depot a fortnight ago?

Booked a time to have a tyre changed, turned up 15 minutes early as they ask. Nowhere to park other than in the entrance to the workshop and a guy said “you can’t leave your car there because I got to get a car out and another in”. So I get out of the way and after he moved his cars I put mine back. Went back in the office with that in itself a nightmare with a spring shut loaded doors to get passed along with a step over threshold. Then the horns started blasting for me to move my car again so asked where I was suppose to park with no spaces never mind disabled spaces.

So with not too many kind words I told them where they could stick their tyre, made my way back home, got on the PC and booked the mobile guy, turned up next morning with no problems.

Never again will I use the local workshops because there nothing but trouble, both the staff and the access.

Acceptable use and insurance. I was on my way to the shops to buy a turnip for the PIP recipient’s dinner, prove me wrong.

We used to use that excuse back in the day when we had a works van and the bosses telling us we can’t use the vehicles for private purposes however if there was an unfortunate accident (never was) we always were pre armed with the excuse “I was on my way to the service station to fuel up for the next day when I had an accident”.

Mind you it would have been a bit of a stretch of the imagination when you had to pass umpteen petrol stations to get to the one you were going to use. 😁

                              Hi Jojoe

Where are you getting the price of £1.5k for a hoist?

For a standard in-car 40Kg, 80Kg or 150Kg hoist should be around about £500 to £600 mark if you order the hoist when you order the car. If you order after delivery it could well be £1.5k though.

I think Motability retro fit adaptions policy is you can have them fitted after delivery of a new car but you will have to pay the adaption company the full, unsubsidised price.

Its something I’m wary of because of increased cost of disabled driving I try to cut corners and get cheaper adaption but it can, and does, backfire sometimes. As an instants I’m about to try one of the indicator extension adaption that, if it works, can save me hundreds of £’s each lease. This adaption is free on MB but, although I’ve not finished with my trial, it doesn’t look like its going to work for me.

So with that in mind, had I ordered a car with the free adaption and without knowing if it works or not I would have to go back to MB and ask for the adaption I tried to save money on in the first place, that being about £470 and then have to pay the full price that I believe to be about £1,200.

On a similar subject, I was given a Kia assist card when I picked up my new Sportage, to be used in the event of a breakdown. Do you know if I should use this or the RAC card if needed?

VW do the same in giving a years breakdown cover however I’ve always been told you should use the Motability RAC breakdown service.

They of course would send your car back to the dealer to fix any warranty problems but those are the rules even if it does seem a waste of time.

Thanks for your info and you’ve got me thinking so just a quick update, I ordered and waiting delivery of an Alfred Bekker indicator extension arm so I can test it over the next year before my renewal comes up.

It’s costing me about £34 with postage so should, if successful, should save the cost of the Lodgeson’s control.

I think GlosGuy said something about this awhile ago that if your on the old agreement, like myself, then the old agreement is what we abide by.

I assume sometime in late 2023 or 2024 the agreement changed to no extensions but this, like yours, is what my agreement says…

“DURATION OF HIRE The Hire Term is for a minimum period of three years starting on the date of delivery of the Vehicle (the “Minimum Hire Term”), but continuing thereafter until either the expiry of a period of twenty four months following the Minimum Hire Term (the “Maximum Hire Term”) or the date on which this Agreement is terminated in accordance with the terms set out in the Contract Hire Terms and Conditions (Ref T&Cs – 01/22)(the “Conditions”), whichever is the earlier. “

Would be handy to know what the new agreement says.

Not my last car but one before I had EHB and the last one should have had it but was lied to by the dealer so suffered 4 years with one of those horrible lever things.

Current car has EHB and over the 2 years and 11k miles of driving I can honestly say I’ve only ever touched the tiny lever switched a handful of times, needs to be switched off on the rare occasions of doing very slow reversing manoeuvrers or turned on (as in pulling the tiny lever) you need to leave the car with the engine running.

Maybe the Nissan’s are different in how they work but if the EHB is linked to an auto-hold system there’s no need to touch it and when you stop the EHB sets in a standby mode and when the car is turned off the handbrake is set automatically to full on.

Just to add, my experience in using EHB with an auto gear box so not sure of how they do in a manual.

                                            Hi @LenaT

Contact a Motability approved adaption installer and they will answer this for you.

It’s rare for a car not to be able to have a hoist fitted, well one that lifts less than an 80Kg but if lifting something more than 150Kg it might be a problem. I’m only talking about experience using a hoist in a ICE car but EV’s should not be any different.

Don’t bother contacting the manufacturers as I too find their websites confusing to say the least but find an installer near you and give them a call, there very helpful.

No I’m not renewing just yet, got another year to complete the current 3 year term then hoping to extend another 2 years.

This has to do with the tremendous AP’s were seeing ATM coupled to another grand for adaptions. My current car cost me near on £4k including adaptions and as they like to say these day’s is “not sustainable” and with the push for EV’s I think I might have to leave MB in a few years time as I can’t handle these cost every 3 years, that and not likely being able to handle heavy charging cables and trip hazards I’ve seen at charging stations. Might be OK for non disabled drivers but only 1 third of MB costumers are actually disabled drivers. Like yourself MB is not about new cars, its about being carefree in the hands of a system that’s supposed to support disabled drivers, but yes, support disabled folk, but not disabled drivers.

Meanwhile before looking at the second-hand market the end of next year those levers that are talked about here have drawn me closer to thinking the second-hand market will be the way to go in time to come because it looks like the sort of thing that one of my grand kids could fit easily.

On the other hand never say never as far as MB goes and I would be very interested in that Wireless Mini Keypad and how it fits into the car and what it is like to use. I will try to get to a road show this year and have a look there, famous last words as I seem to say that every year but times are getting hard now.

I will be giving these extension levers a very close look next time I’m in to renew my car as the Lodgesons were fine and I didn’t mind paying £200 or £300 for the device but now there getting near on £500 for the 7 way.

With a lot of cars now shifting there gear switches / levers to the steering column it means going for the 10 way Lodgesons with even more cost.

Although a lot of stuff in cars are now automatic there are times when these systems don’t work in some situation and my main concern here is the automatic headlights main and dip beam and while these extension lever take care of the indicators and wipers how do you go about over riding the automatic main beam headlight if and when they fail to react to conditions. Or thinking about it, do these levers handle that too, meaning 3 levers as is my case, main beam, wipers and indicators, or does the indicator extension lever work the main beam too. Might be a funny thing to ask but its been so long since I drove a car using two hands I can’t even remember how or what lever works the main beam. 😁

My current car handles the headlights without any problems but had to add an extra to the car to upgrade the lights to a matrix system so in itself an extra payment to help with my disability driving.

This is what I was trying to explain in my post above after driving for 20 plus years or 18 years in my case, with your or mine condition nothing has changed except our age.

I simply renew my license every 3 years using the form I posted and get my new license back a few days later, no questioned asked.

If something had changed then yes DVLA would need to be informed but if not then you just renew your license with its disability codes as is.

Dealing with dysfunctional government and their departments is a nightmare for the best of people never mind when you add a disability to it.

The PIN is a legal signature to sign into a legal binding contract and would love to know what a solicitor would make of a forged signature on the document.

Wonder if MB knows about this and if they do what’s their view of this illegal activity.
