Just when you thought 2021 could not get anyworse… We now have a Sandero as car of the year in January and we thought 2020 was bad.
What’s wrong with a decent/well built car that does everything a car needs to do at a very good price?
Just out of interest what do you drive?
Vauxhall Combo Life – and you?
The owner reviews give it a 3 star rating so not brilliant from those who have lived with the car, but as WMC says each to their own.
Is the car not on sale from February so there won’t be any owner reviews yet? Just going from what I waa reading on AutoExpress website.
But Alan please don’t take this the wrong but a lot of people wouldn’t be seen dead in it
I know – but don’t think that should stop it from winning an award.
People that would not be seen dead in are (being polite) silly
Done pretty well on the US economy and the Middle East, surely? Unlike Obama.
US economy was improving a lot under Obama – he took on the US after a massive recession.
Don’t think Trump has done well with Iran at all. Not sure of any other improvements there that he would have had dealings with.
Regrettably, governments don’t hint at the way forward so much as drive the way forward using taxpayers money to promote their own political agenda. Nothing new there…
If governments don’t do it then we would need to wait until individuals come along to try and turn the tide but that will take longer.
It’s quite a specific car – maybe worth seeing if there is a Renault forum about where you may be more likely be able to find someone to help.
You can assume what you like, alan1302 ! In general I object to my taxes being spent on speculative ventures of any sort. If wind power was so cheap, private investors would be queuing up to provide it and profit from it, without massive subsidies from the state.
£28 billion has been invested in wind farms in the first half of 2020 worldwide. Subsidies are very often needed to give people a shove in a certain direction.
I agree with you Carl – you should always check round first and not assume the Motability one would be cheapest overall. I know our car was a lot cheaper on Motability though but others would be better going elsewhere.
Has it only won because of its cheap price ?
No, although I expect that will be a part of it.
It’s a good quality car that does all most people need at a very good price
Still hasn’t drained the swamp, thats my only complaint. Still he has a few days to go .
Hasn’t really managed to do a lot at all in his 4 years – except make a lot of people angry and cause divisions between people.
He shouts a lot but he does very little.
The title was alluding to this statement in the article: “On Thursday, with wind speeds even lower, prices for balancing during the evening peak shot up again, reaching £1,400. By Friday’s peak, that figure had risen to a record-breaking £4,000.” I thought it obvious and didn’t need explaining.
Can I assume you are not keen on wind power being used as much?
I posted the article for information, alan1302. I found it interesting reading.
It is unfortunately it shows the lack of joined up thinking in the government. There needs to be a push for renewables but backup generation, nuclear and storage options are all needed as well.
The title of your post was Cheap Wind Power – nothing in that article suggests that it is not cheap and neither does anything I can find about it.
Ridiculous when you think the Sandero is really nothing more than an old Renault Clio.
Ridiculous in what way?
There are far better cars out there than a Sandero or Clio. I’ve had a Clio which was ok but no better than average. I’m sure they just pass these awards around the manufacturers to keep them happy.
They usually give it to new cars out, as it’s a small car award that narrows the field even more. What car would you have gone for?
You’ve still not said why it is ridiculous that the car won it though. Even if there are better cars that Sandero is a very capable car for not a lot of money.
Can’t get cheaper than breaking wind imho
LOL Very true
I didn’t ask a question, alan1302. Actually you have raised a point by claiming that wind power is cheaper than other forms of generation.
What was point of the original post then if there was no question?
Generally wind power is one of the cheapest forms of electricity generation – based on shore. See here:

Wouldn’t vinegar smear the windscreen ?
No, vinegar is a good way to clean glass.
So if lease companies can offer these prices, why cant mobility?? Is it because they have a monopoly I wounder???
They have to offer the prices all the time – not just when a company/dealer needs to get some money in or clear some stock.
And like you say you have to add insurance and servicing costs. Insurance can easily add £50 a month and servicing/parts can be a decent chunk as well.
And if you can get something cheaper than Motability…then why don’t you?

What is your question about this? All the article says is that when there is no wind then other forms of generation are needed which cost more – that’s kind of obvious.
The fact that electricity prices will increase as more and more investment in renewables is to be expected.
It’s the storage of renewables produced electricity which is where a lot of research and investment is being done now.
Same inside with different badges stuck on, basically same outside with a few unique design features to each brand.
Like they do with the smaller Berlingo/Rifter/Combo Life

Who wants it? Which ones?
Or get some new wipers

You would never chose a dacia on the mobility scheme, because you could pick one up new for 7k. Lots of monthly payment deals out there for the sander for under £150 per month.
True, but you do need to factor in servicing costs and insurance as well and road fund. And probably most people won’t go for the very cheapest one.
