I called Motability the other day as our order window opens next month. The lady I spoke to was extremely helpful and I asked her to run through the list that they have of cars that Motability are in negotiations with manufacturers about possibly joining the scheme. The list was clearly out of date as almost all of the cars on it are already on the scheme. However, one that has yet to make the scheme, but is being discussed is the Lexus LBX. No use for us as far too small, but might interest some – if it appears. Health warning – cars are often on this list but never make the scheme – the Toyota Highlander was on this list the last time we changed but never made it.
I specifically asked if there was anything from Jaguar Land Rover on the list as this has been mentioned on this forum. There’s nothing. There are also no new BMWs on the list which surprised me as I expect the iX2 to join. However, as I say, the list seemed out of date. There were also errors on it as it said that the new Honda CR-V would not be coming to the scheme yet I notice that one model already has!

Read the full post from GG above, he sensibly adds a disclaimer!
March 23, 2024 at 9:56 am #269090But being discussed is a start surely ?

March 23, 2024 at 3:01 pm #269114I too would come off the scheme,we are going to order a Mustang in the next couple of days and with the five grand advance payment I was seriously tempted to just buy a secondhand one but the insurance is around £2200 it’s just not financially valuable, I will certainly look again at the end of this lease
I know that insurance varies wildly depending on where you live, but I ran an insurance quote yesterday on a price comparison site on a 3 year old BMW x5 45e. That’s a 389 bhp car and pretty high up on a car thieves wish list. I also had an insurance claim just over 2 years ago (first in decades) so can only claim 2 years No Claims Discount. I held my breath when I pressed the ‘Obtain Quotes’ button and was staggered that the best quote was only £850. I thought that was pretty good, especially as it will reduce each year as my No Claims discounts build back up.
@Glos Guy
For a bit of fun if you have a minute spare could you do the insurance quote with my area postcode instead of yours i would be interesting to see the difference…..post code is S2 4SU.

Even with over 6 years no claims and being over 50 I got quotes for my current car and it was over £2500 a year (BMW i4) which makes Motability a no brainer for me</p>

I think that even if you live in a low risk area, as I do, if you want an EV Motability is still almost certainly the best route. Insurers seem to be running scared of them, depreciation is far more than ICE cars (due to low demand from private buyers) and of course Motability pay for the installation of a home charger.
March 24, 2024 at 2:47 am #269154@Glos Guy thanks for doing that.
I did a Meerkat quote recently on the same car that i had for 3 years prior to me joinging Motability,and on my last policy which was Fully Comp,17 years ncb,protected no claims,69 years young,clean licence,i paid £353 and the quote i get now is just under £800.
The high cost of insurance is one of the factors why i will remain with Motability.

March 24, 2024 at 11:22 am #269170@MickC I thought it was unusual for the owner of Sheffield United to be on the scheme ?
March 24, 2024 at 6:20 pm #269205March 26, 2024 at 7:00 am #269854You’ll find that the difference in premium isn’t mainly down to the postcode. Granted, an S postcode is probably higher rated than a GL one. The main issue will be that the modern insurance quote will conduct a soft credit search, a fictitious postcode will not help!

They usually aren’t delayed because it’s a Bank Holiday Mike. Do you know something?
