WhitneyHi everyone, I was wondering what your wait times are for your car orders. I ordered a Ford Kuga St Line X Auto Diesel on Sept 21 and haven’t received a build date yet. Was told by dealer it’d be March/April 22 which I’m hopeful it will not be any longer than that. Very hesitant to cancel the order due to current wait times and the fact that Ford has discontinued the Diesel engine (which was the only Kuga available for under 25s at Q4).

I would not hold your breath vauxhall have not got clue when vehicles will be arriving. A good guide is to look to see if you can see a new plate vehicle the same as you have ordered when you are out and about. I would bet you do not see any.

SoheilOrdered a golf gte July 2021, was told it would come in September 21, then a 5 week delay into October, then again a delay to November, then I got no updates until a Christmas card came that said better luck in the new year, got told it would be March 2022, week before I got told to sit down as it was now March 2023, then got told Jan 2023, called a week before and got told again March 2023, called again a week before and got told maybe June maybe July 2023. I think it’s never going to come now.
March 24, 2023 at 12:51 pm #216349Astra ordered last year in June, was told not to expect it until 2023.
January this year “It’s expected end of March”
A few days ago “Issues producing the car, to speed up the production line the whole car will be the colour you picked, no black roof”
Today “Won’t be anytime soon”

Robin HillI ordered a VW Caddy 01/12/2021 … listed for build week 13/14 ie. this coming Monday so hoping to hear from them soon.
March 24, 2023 at 9:03 pm #216374I’m on 19 months for a VW ID.3 Tour.
It seems that some have got theirs on the ID.3 forums with order dates and numbers after mine.
While I’m happy for them, I can’t accept any BS excuses from VW. They’re just becoming a joke, and it’s the last time I’ll be using VAG.

AdiWent into my local Skoda (Bolton) today as due to renew from the 6th April.
Was looking at the Skoda Kamiq, told wait time is around 9 months.
March 26, 2023 at 3:53 pm #216503Been car browsing today since Vauxhall have peed me off.
Nissan Qashqai, very busy in there so only managed to get one question out of them. How long? “Max 6 months but likely to be sooner”.
Mazda CX-5, virtually empty so as soon as i stepped foot in there i got ambushed lol. Motability “expert” wasn’t in but the dealer was very helpful. Even went and got the demonstrator car and drove it to the front.
Got told if i really want one now and didn’t mind the colour (it was Gray) he said one had been cancelled and i could have that within a week. If not a factory order would be May/June.
Ford Focus, another empty dealership (people must love Nissan). Motability woman was free, showed me around. Excellent service. Availability, June/July for factory order. Even faster if you don’t mind what colour as they have plenty of stock.
100% cancelling my Astra order now, just got to decide between those 3 cars.

Oh, didn’t know.
No I’ve not had a build week. Just emails to say, “it’s not showing built as yet. Will let you know when it has left the factory and gets to the port.”.

Having test driven the E-Power QQ and having owned/leased over 30+ cars I decided without hesitation that this is the car for me
The drive quality/safety features/tech/looks/ won me over and will soon be ordering the mid range model in the very near future
Suggest you ring and book a test drive asap

MJWe ordered our Kamiq around November (due for replacement end Nov) and was told initially Build Week 19, over the past few months it’s went to week 21, 23 and most recently now 26.
It’s not the waiting that annoys me, it’s the fact the build week keeps changing, I mean if Skoda say Week 19, why has it now changed 3 times?. I don’t see us getting the new car anytime soon, even if this year at all, if I had ordered this as a buyer I’d have cancelled by now and just kept our current car, if I thought I could cancel with motability and keep the current car, I would, simply to make a point but then this will only bring on another wait for the next one!.

RogerWilkoMy,
I have worked in Automotive manufacturing for 40 years.
build dates changing is a normal situation today.
In the past, cars were built and stored in fields until there was a call for tgat car.
Nowadwys cars are built to order.
The build date is the initial order input, but will move due to many factors.
Paint. Cars are batch painted, it’s more efficient=n5 than building, say two black cars then three green cars, cleaning of lines, paint mixing etc, if yiu order a unique colour or unpopular colour, it can have to wait until there are enough cars for a batch
Parts supply issues. A big issue, if a supplier, due to shortages at their plants, cannot supply enough parts, then the car won’t be built, as even if built, then has to stay in a compound waiting for the missing parts. Sone parts that do have weekly/daily issues are steering wheels, air bags in the same colour as the steering wheel, carpets different colours and pile issues, seats, most leather for example, comes from one dyeing company and supplied out to various trimmers to produce the parts. As it’s a living skin, there can be big issues getting enough parts out if there are for example, barbed wire cuts, or the dye doesn’t flow correctly, as a complete set of seats comes from one batch, myiu can’t have different shades.
non leather also has manufacturing issues.
Electronics. Yes, the chip shortage is being reduced, but is not back up to speed. Also, you do get failures in components, not seen until tested in situ. If a wiring harness has a failure, you can’t just cut the part out and solder a new part in, as the supplier will not warrant the whole harness due to this, so a harness replacement is a complete strip down of the vehicle interior to get the main harness out.
Also, harnesses are now car specific and built in huge wiring boards in Morocco Specific for that car. This weight saving not putting in redundant wiring.
wheels. Each wheel has to be checked for marks, especially alloy wheels. These are not produced in the UK anymore, nor in Europe, but the far east and have to be shipped over.
These are just sone of the many issues in building cars, when you use some 20,000 pieces from thousands of suppliers, problems happen.
Tge manufacturer doesn’t want to stop production as the workforce still have to be paid, plus fixed costs, so every day, cars are moved on a build plan. Add to that the amount of cars that are on the order books due to Covid, the war and Taiwan chip factory fire…..
it’s a nightmare!
