There is a lot of knowledge amongst us, I exclude myself.
The COVID 19 is dominating the news:
How worried should we be?
Will this be Spanish flu proportions or just another contained outbreak as SARS and MERS were?
Oh – and when will we start to see ‘Just in time’ manufacturing suffer?

March 19, 2020 at 8:51 am #109627I’m also on forced shut down I have been for quite a few weeks now as I’m currently not mobile.
I do have a workshop at home and have been trying to do bits and pieces, but my friends who have called to check all is ok have said they are still going to work on the trains and busses.
one of my daughters schools has been selected to stay open for vital workers children and school meals.March 19, 2020 at 9:57 am #109631Both wife (a teacher) and I (work at a FE College) are still at work.
We are both working from home after Friday, so tomorrow is my last day in, but not my last day working. She isn’t really sure yet if her school will be required to open to cover the essential children etc, so she may be back at her workplace sooner than me. I am to be at home till end April so far.
Good news is I went to Lidl to buy a sandwich for lunch this morning, they had stock of most things except bog roll, cereal & biscuits. So I got 500g pack of chicken and one of mince. Young lady behind me had 3 mince, 3 chicken, 3 turkey, 3 stewing steak & 2 whole chickens. Not stockpiling…yeah, right.
In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.

brydoThat would be a sensible precaution mike, one I will be doing myself even though there have only been 25 cases reported in my area, out of 650,000 residents. And the majority of these will now be over the effects of the virus.
China, for the first time, have reported NO NEW CASES IN A DAY, great news.

Hey Brydo,
People have been pushing for this for some time now , and I fully understand their concerns, however the Government has announced that schools in England will also close on Friday of this week, which should help with people’s concerns but , of course, there is another very important side to the schools closing.
It is of course that many NHS and care staff have young children in school, and if they cannot find childminders then they will invariably have to stay at home to look after their children, thereby creating a staffing shortage maybe , both in the NHS and for disabled care at home, just at the time when potentially more staff are required!
It is easy to criticise politicians , which as you know, I do regularly, but there is a bigger picture, which sometimes we don’t see, and school closures may turn out to be extremely dangerous for older people with disabilities/ illness etc. “Putting our lives at risk”, hence the time taken to assess the impact of closures.
Best regards,
,

FootlooseHi everyone,
I hope you are all well..I am still at work in a quiet and almost eerie Glasgow city Centre however I feel a shutdown may be inevitable at some point if it helps to rid us of this anxiety and allow us all to carry on as normal and show the great spirit that us Brits and the rest of the world are proud of?Its at times like these that I and many others really appreciate this site and the warmth it offers and I applaud everyone for being part of it..stay calm, safe and carry on ??
March 19, 2020 at 11:25 am #109644i went out on tuesday to pick up a prescription and bread, popped in the butchers as i fancied some of his steak burgers and there was a woman there basically buying half a pig. not stocking up much lol.
the butcher said he had never seen her before and new customers were coming in ordering freezer packs left and right. so its not just loo rolls being hoardered.
i only have a small freezer and half that i keep for wiltshire farm frozen meals for when i cant stand to cook.
even struggled to get a delivery slot from them this week.
March 19, 2020 at 12:26 pm #109648Thinking about you daily Joss and sending you positive vibes. Have you got that consultant appointment today still?

ThargTalking of delivery slots… Mrs Tharg and I decided to self-isolate because we hit the age criteria and the health one. So, home deliveries needed but can’t be got! A week or so back, managed to get a Waitrose slot for 19 April. Now, nothing available at all; neither Tesco nor Waitrose offering slots for home delivery. Can’t even sign on to Waitrose site – just get the green screen of death saying “try later”. Am willing to shop 5- or 6-weeks in advance but can’t. Anyone else having this problem? Or is it just in our area (Worthing, W Sussex)?
March 19, 2020 at 1:34 pm #109651I managed to get a delivery slot for 31st March this morning. I ordered £300 of food which may sound a lot but there are six of us and it’s not much more than a weeks supply with everyone home. This is an area that has to be looked at by the government. London it is impossible, I believe, to get a delivery slot.
There are community groups that are shopping for people, I’m happy to find and contact or pass on their phone number for ANYONE that needs it. Email: enquires@whichmobilitycar.comSend me your postcode and I will, if possible, email you back with a phone number of someone who is prepared to help.
March 19, 2020 at 1:56 pm #109654Just been to Tesco lots of empty shelves and freezers it’s crazy
March 19, 2020 at 3:12 pm #109659I went to Costco yesterday to pick up only our normal bi monthly shop..it was quite simply insanity, people seem to have lost capacity for rational thinking
March 19, 2020 at 3:39 pm #109660wmcforum, the joys of feeding a tribe lol.
its been a long time since ive had to endure the weekly shop for a housefull, now i struggle to hit the minimum spend for some of the delivery companies and now shop monthly or maybe fortnightly.
i just make sure ive always got bread mix in to make bread if i run out. that way i can usually manage another week.
got to be able to have the odd bacon butty.
March 19, 2020 at 4:02 pm #109661Motability message from our CEO
With the constantly evolving situation surrounding COVID-19 (Coronavirus), we are going through worrying times. As our valued customers, we’d like to reassure you that we are doing all we can to make sure that you are supported, and our services continue without interruption.
These steps include measures to keep you and your family mobile in the event of periods of self-isolation or illness. For example if your lease is coming to an end, you are due to collect a new car, or your PIP reassessment is delayed, we should also be able to arrange an extension on your current lease if needed.
In line with Government guidelines, we are advising employees who can work from home to do so, to ensure their wellbeing and that of their communities. This means that we are working with a reduced number of advisers. Phone lines will be open, but we’d be grateful for your patience if call lines are busier than usual.
At present we are not seeing any disruption in services to Scheme customers by dealers, Kwik Fit, the RAC and RSA Motability (RSAM), but we’ll let you know if that changes.
We are reviewing the situation on an ongoing basis and will keep you advised of any developments. In the meantime, you may find it helpful to read our FAQs on the Coronavirus situation here. If you have a general query you can visit our website and ‘Ask a question’ using the Q&A bot or try the FAQ section, or speak to your dealer.
Best wishesMike Betts

March 19, 2020 at 6:23 pm #109667@Brydo Thank you for your words of support my dear friend.
I am keeping up to date with posts here and will interject as much as I feel I can contribute something of worth.
@POPS Thanks for your support POPS. Regarding the consultant appointment, They rang me on Wednesday to cancel that appointment. This is due to minimising the risk to other renal patients, especially those on Dialysis and pre/post transplant patients, which make sense. My consultant has reviewed my bloods and reports there has been some improvement. However, I still need the iron infusion. Hopefully this can be done next Friday.
Now this afternoon My daughter has been sent home from work with a bad cough. Given a laptop and is to work from home while isolating herself. That is going to be rather difficult to manage with me and my conditions.
I need a bubble!
Joss
