There is a lot of knowledge amongst us, I exclude myself.
The COVID 19 is dominating the news:
How worried should we be?
Will this be Spanish flu proportions or just another contained outbreak as SARS and MERS were?
Oh – and when will we start to see ‘Just in time’ manufacturing suffer?

brydoIf it works for those on the front line it will work for all of us. If you can get masks please wear one when your out, especially if you are on the vulnerable list. The virus can only enter the body through your mouth nose and eyes glasses a mask and washing your hands when you get back to your house will reduce your chances of catching the disease massively.
Stay safe.
April 25, 2020 at 12:35 pm #112250Brydo, I’d add a baseball cap to that list, it will help to keep any ballistic droplets from going in behind the safetly glasses/wraparound sunglasses, etc.
p.s. for those gentlemen without the benefit of a fuller head of hair anymore, the baseball cap will also help whilst queuing outside a supermarket for 1/2 hour in the midday sun.

April 26, 2020 at 8:09 am #112266The advice given to a friend in Argentina was clear over face masks : USE IT.
April 26, 2020 at 11:17 am #112286Es una buena idea, es algo creo que necesitamos hacer aquí.

ThargSi. Pero solamente si la idea es verdad.

April 27, 2020 at 3:04 pm #112362Tienes razon tharg.Lo siento Julie. No me di cuenta que no hablas español. Spain have relaxed their lockdown rules but they are still more restrictive than ours in many respects. Interested to see who leads the 5pm press conference.

BrydoTharg to say I spoke fluent Spanish would be wrong but I do do fluent Google pretty well.
April 27, 2020 at 5:45 pm #112378I think next week we could well see the 1st signs of an easing of restrictions which will take place in the 1st week of May.
April 27, 2020 at 6:21 pm #112380May 11th is the date that the industry are throwing around for dealerships to reopen. I’m not so sure. I could see a phased return with motability being mothballed for a good while yet.
April 27, 2020 at 6:38 pm #112381We have the benefit of monitoring the situation in other countries before we take decisions here. I think it is going to be a very slow and methodical process.
April 27, 2020 at 6:44 pm #112382Motability is as much a business as the next and needs to get cars turning over. Dont they contribute 10% to new registrations each year?
As we are so often reminded they do make a tidy profit and won’t want to sit idly.

Citreon C4 PicassoApril 27, 2020 at 6:59 pm #112383I am guessing, but I think now would be a good time to buy your car from motability. If your lease is up I suggest giving them a call for a price. With no dealers open and the auctions still closed motability would need to pay someone to come pick it up and store it for god knows how long.

They have helped lots with the auto extension but it must benefit them also. The cost if everyone up for renewal said no take the car back could be significant a one, with no means to move the cars on and recoupe there money.

Bristol Street told me today they are gearing up for opening their showrooms on the 11th May, I did read somewhere customers Motability cars at the end of their lease already ordered will 2 weeks behind, my lease does not end until the 30th may so in theory will not be affected.

April 30, 2020 at 7:27 am #112515Following on from the facemask discussion, this popped up on some social media platform, when Americans simplify something it usually involves pee or poop.

72 dudesI shall definitely start wearing pants on my head now.
But seriously, it’s a false argument. A face mask will minimise the spread of the virus if the wearer has it.
For anyone else, wearing a mask to prevent catching the virus is of limited benefit because it can enter your system through your eyes.
So you’d also need a face visor and these should be left for staff working on the front line.
April 30, 2020 at 9:26 am #112521
BrydoThe virus can only get into your body via the mouth nose and eyes. If a mask stops it entering the body through two of the three entry points then that’s a huge reduction in the chances of catching it.
If you have the virus and you wear a mask and it stops others getting it that’s exactly what is required, result.Sooooo wear a mask ? and if you want to wear a visor, then wear a visor. If not wear your glasses.
Most of the members on this forum will be in the vulnerable category and we have lost far to many in this category already.
ANYTHING YOU CAN DO TO REDUCE/STOP YOU CATCHING THE VIRUS IS WORTH DOING.
April 30, 2020 at 10:11 am #112524Saying it doesn’t help much because you can catch it through your eyes anyway doesn’t make a valid argument to stop everyone wearing masks, unless you have been tested and given the all clear that day without interacting with anyone or thing that could pass the virus on to you since being tested then anyone could be a carrier and therefore wearing a mask would stop a large percentage of transmission.

RichardIf you have 3 water leaks in your house & you fix 2 of them does that reduce damage & flooding? Of course it does same way plugging 2 out of 3 means of entry minimises the risk.
It’s not about making yourself bomb proof that’s next to impossible without a full hazmat suit with internal oxygen it’s about minimising the chances of catching it
Similarly if everyone wears a mask there’ll be next to no airborne virus as coughs & sneezes will be caught in masks
April 30, 2020 at 12:23 pm #112538
72 dudesAll good points and of course people should wear a mask if they feel safer.
But I can’t help feeling that it doesn’t explain the 85 plus deaths of frontline NHS workers plus at least 16 care workers from the virus.
I’m in the vulnerable category and a key worker so if the WHO say we should be wearing masks, then you can bet I will start.
