There is a lot of knowledge amongst us, I exclude myself.
The COVID 19 is dominating the news:
How worried should we be?
Will this be Spanish flu proportions or just another contained outbreak as SARS and MERS were?
Oh – and when will we start to see ‘Just in time’ manufacturing suffer?

so long as people follow the advice regarding washing hands and general cleaning of surfaces etc then a face mask as an additional item will only help.
but they must be cleaned regularly and all other methods maintained. if people stop the other actions because they think wearing a mask is the answer to the problem it aint going to help.
but the priority must be to get ppe to the nhs and carers, giving it to the general public must not affect that.
April 30, 2020 at 4:13 pm #112558I was out & about yesterday, probably contrary to current lockdown rules but I needed to do a few things….
Went to my sister’s (oh, no, that’s not allowed), to finalise washable mask designs & make the prototypes (oh, maybe that could be allowed) and we maintained social distancing (phew). I now have a small number of masks that are probably useful.
I went to do some shopping as I had nearly run out of everything except bread flour (oh yes, that again, I had 16kg delivered Monday), and once again I wore a mask around the supermarket (one just made) together with the nitrile gloves & the eye protection clear glasses (wraparound close fitting type). The mask was pretty hot to use but it was a 5 layer mask, it’s gone through a 60 degree wash & survived.
I supplied my neighbour who is in the extreme vulnerable category with fresh meats, fresh yoghurts, fresh fruit & salad veg since she gets parcels full of tins and stale bread & was rather depressed and had been mooting going to the supermarket herself.
Sometimes you must take risks, but you can try to minimise those risks. I’m wearing mask/gloves/eye protection whatever some non-scientist government type says.
On the face shield issue, our local 3D printers blasted through 6500 made on the 28th & continue apace (https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/covid-19-visors/updates#start) and are supplying some hospitals in the area and there’s another group a few miles away also producing them for other hospitals. If the NHS want PPE & we can make it then they will have it for free. Care homes, pharmacies etc also getting deliveries of them. Scrubs, scrubs bags, etc are all being supplied by our local groups. Doing nothing during the lockdown isn’t an option here.

My daughter caught it (probably off a customer in her little shop), but no one of her family and circle of friends caught it off her. Mrs Wigwam was at an all day meeting with 9 others who all came down with the virus but she didn’t.
Everyone recovered fully without intervention.
I find it difficult know what precautions to take.

GeorgieWell, Mike, yesterday I watched a video (one of the latest episodes of ‘Cody’s Lab’) where Cody wore a home-made chain mail suit and a full ‘hood’ mask with his own oxygen supply around his local supermarket in Nevada (or possibly Utah) and nobody raised so much as an eyebrow.

GeorgieMy sister thinks she and our mum have already had it – albeit mild cases – three weeks ago, because her boss (who she normally shares an office with) called her last week to tell her his wife had just died in hospital from Covid 19. Boss had a bit of a cold the last week she was working with him in their office, then she and mum had the same symptoms two weeks later. I haven’t seen them since before that, so I don’t think DH and I have been exposed to it – not via that route, any way.
No way to know until we all have access to the Antibody Tests.

Number of tests actually done on diffrent people 76000 since when did a few become 50,000 ? Why then do they call them the best Scientists in the world that man should not be doing the maths .
