I am so very very annoyed right now. For the last couple of weeks I’d been trying to buy only for my Dealership to be told by the manufacturer there were non to buy whilst said manufacturer told Motability there were. Naturally, today, it’s off the scheme. So I wasted a couple of weeks with back and forth shenanigans (I’m sure the call centre are sick of me now! haha) AND my backup car has gone up by £1000 today -_-.

It’s so hard to find a car that I can easily get in and out of AND that has the features and functions that make me (a) feel safe (b) easy to handle driving with functions and what not (c) felt comfortable to use (d) has room in the boot for my chair and dog.

My current car (Ford Galaxy) ticks every box for me and then some, but in 1month and 23 days it’ll be at the end of 5 years and thus HAS to be changed. Sadly it is not on the scheme these days, nor is its slightly smaller sister the S-Max. Heck you can’t even order either of them as a non motability customer at the moment.

The car industry and its knock on effect on everyone (not just us) is a MESS right now 🙁

I applied for renewal of mine (by post as MS is not a condition you can apply online with -_-) in December last year! Got a notice saying ‘we are processing your application’ pretty quickly afterwards with a section 88 notice attached (the you can keep driving whilst application is in progress thing)

In September this year I got a letter saying they were happy to issue new licence now they’d checked my medical stuff but need new photo with the ‘if I don’t receive the photo in 14 days I will assume you no longer wish to proceed with the licence’ stuff on. A letter, I might add, dated 3 days before I got it, so down to 11 days I guess. So I special delivered photo and form same day, they got it the following day..

Fast forward to back end of October, I’m begining to worry as not only will the extension given to all licence holders run out November 14th for me, my section 88 notice will also run out only a few weeks later.

Tried and failed multiple times to contact dvla to find out Wtf was going on. Just kept my fingers crossed it’d turn up in time…

New licence arrived November 13th with a day to spare before old one was completely void… What a mess.

Moral of story seems to be, it’ll arrive eventually even if its stressful as hell not knowing what’s going on.

          its like they dont care.

The cynic in me says they probably don’t because they have no competition, they don’t need to worry. Yes we could all go out and switch to PCP or normal Lease, or hell just buy some used thing off ebay or w/e, BUT that doesn’t really compare to the full service Motability give us, and the peace of mind so they probably aren’t that worried about it :/ ….

I do find it a bit daft that there is no competition at all, seems somewhat monopolistic. But I dont confess to know even a tiny tiny amount of the behind the scenes machinery of all this.

Dear Hyundai, give me ioniq 5 on motability, I will make you my new lord and saviors, much love, Logan

            haha.

Seriously though, I’m just treading water waiting for the right car. My 2 year extension on current car runs out August 2022.

BUT my pip is due for reassessment in October 2022 X_X… I can’t see them taking it away, but then ATOS are scumbags so who knows! Perhaps I’m some magical miracle whose incurable disease got better!

You need at least 12months left though to get a new car right? So I guess I have till Q3 (?) this year to find my future car, hence my interest in this topic and its soothsaying :).

My understanding, and please more knowledgeable folk correct me if wrong, is that they basically only get a small fee for handling a motability ‘sale’ whereas there is more margin in normal sales and bonuses and all that lark. So we get treated like second class citizens by some dealers as a result as there is less money in it for them.

Some places are great, others just plain ignore you if they make the assumption (easily done with me and no doubt many others as I either walk with a stick or at times use a wheelchair) that you are motability. :/.

Fwippers swooped in (an aforementioned more knowledgeable person) and answered the question as I was typing, but I will post regardless :).

screw the Daily Mail. Such a cancerous piece of media.

come on now, I know cancer is a HORRIBLE illness that needs to die in a fire, but to accuse it of being as bad as the novelty toilet paper that is the Mail is a bit unfair to it don’t you think? 😛

Keeping with the proper discussion, I find the whole what can and cannot be on the scheme kind of ridiculous to be honest. The Mach-E should be on the scheme for a pure practically point of view, its easy to get into, it’s boot will take a wheelchair, and with the seats down it’ll even take a full on recumbant trike and cos it has a reasonable large (especially without the divider) froot/frunk under the bonnet you’d still have space for other stuff.

After speaking to a Kia/Hyundai salesman yesterday he is doubtful the Ioniq 5 nor EV6 will ever come on for the exact same cost reasons. Which I’m hoping he is wrong on that one too.

With the ID4, I actually prefer the looks (externally at least) of it’s smaller sister the ID3. Though its not as practical from a space perspective. But both of them have suprisingly cheap feeling and costcutting interiors. The lack of seperate rear window buttons is just daft for example.

The problem with the ID4 as well is that only the most basic models are, currently, on the scheme and you’d have to spend a fortune to get the various packs to add things that make driving easier and less stressful. If the higher spec models come on it won’t be so bad as they have most of the bits and pieces as standard.

The Soul from Kia ticks pretty much every box bar 3,  (1) it has quite a small boot, (2) does not have memory seats and (3) doesn’t have front parking sensors. I realise thats a bit poncy from an outside perspective but with the memory seats it means my partner and I can easily swap who is driving without me then having to spend half my bloody day trying to remember and work out exactly how I had the seat and the front sensors just make me less worried I’m going to hit something when parking. Have I ever done so? No. Do I get overly anxious about it all the goddamn time? Damn right -_-….

I was also informed you can’t get the blue soul anymore and that Kia are basically running down existing stock. Saleman assumes they will then stop doing the first edition and go to more standard 2, 3 , 4 model naming and spec differentation like the other Kia cars.

The Kona is better in that regard, but I personally don’t like the design as much. I am aware that the Soul is proper marmite though haha.

Hopefully the Enyaq will come on, though I imagine it’ll have a similar spec issue to the ID4 with option packs and thus eye watering additonal costs.

I guess I’m just gonna wait things out a bit longer :/. I’m on year 1 of a 2 year extention of my Galaxy at the moment – great car, so very easy to get in and out of and cavenous boot, but I get crap mileage out of it as it’s a diesel and most of my journeys are very short ones (2-5mile round trips) :(.

Apologies to anyone who made it this far for my digital equivlant of verbal diarrhea X_X, but also thank you.

I rang up and extended mine this morning, it was due for renewal August 22nd, but (a) the prices are crazy and (b) there isn’t anything available I’d want to change too anyway. Had that Soul Ev been legit I was tempted, but it is a lie ;_; …

The lovely gentleman on the phone at Motability was extremely helpful and said it was no problem extending it by 2 years and I’m still free to change at any point within said 2 years if I find a suitable replacement.

Amused me slightly that the phone system had many recorded apologies about long waits, and the man I spoke to also apologised profusely for the ‘long wait’ even though it was barely 10 minutes and thus was nothing.

Goddammit Kia ;_; … Got my hopes up :(.

Hopefully it’s just them jumping the gun and putting the info up before Motability have given it the all clear.
