Fingers crossed for you. EVs are definitely a better option… As long as you can charge at home.
Yeah I was given permission by my landlord 24hrs before handing back the Megane and collecting my ZR-V. I am actually going to call Motability in the morning and ask for an early termination. I have just read about the changes coming and I am on 36k miles in 26 months so expecting around 45k! The 30k mileage limit will hurt us financially so I think taking the hit now will be with it in the long run. Enyaq or countryman for me!
No it’s the easy answer. Unless you have a home charger then don’t bother with an EV. In my previous Megane it was costing £40 for 150 miles at best! Whereas at home that would be 10-15% of that.
I am due to order in October myself and was 100% going electric but the bigger range, nicer spec cars are all too much AP for us (£1499 AP spent for our ZR-V in Jan 24 was the most we ever spent by far) and so I started looking at PHEVS. What do you think of the geely starray? Quite a big electric only range and only £2000 for the top spec. That’s my thinking at the moment. I saw one today near me and I thought it had quite a good presence.

But 99% of new cars have auto lights…. It’s not something I have seen in years and I have done 35k miles in the last 25 months so it’s not like I am not on the road in the dark! Maybe it’s a location thing.
Yes kezo, that’s the story. It looks like Matty knows about the lack of range when towing anyway. Cheers for the link so he can at least see the report.
Not what your asked but….. I have just read on Google about a Ioniq 5 only getting 100 mile range in hot American weather with a very light caravan attached. Have you researched it enough?
It’s a good condition bonus after 3 years only. 2 years and 11 months and you don’t get it!
We returned a manual Ateca in 2020 after having it for 12 months because my left knee went and I couldn’t use the clutch with 0 penalty’s. The only stipulation was that the next car had to be automatic obviously so we got an Ateca with DSG. Then in 2023 we got a Megane ev but our land owners refused (after 3 months of us being told we would get a positive outcome) permission to get a home charger installed, so we rang motability and again without a charge or any issue, they let us give back the megane EV and we have had our hybrid Honda ZR-V since January 24. The morning we actually picked up or ZR-V, we actually got confirmation that we could get a home charger installed!! So my point is, if you have a valid reason, they are usually very easy to deal with. Also at only £250, the early termination fee is very very low! Try getting out of a personal car agreement and it will cost thousands. Good luck.
I had it in the Megane techno. I actually thought it was decent at the time, But then I got the ZR-V with 12 speaker Bose and there is a huge difference if that is your question. Its certainly acceptable but if you like your music then the iconic is a must!
Our ZR-V advance came with a sunroof and after 12 months with the car, it is still the only thing that has broke!! Most top spec SUVs come with some sort of sunroof, ours is a fully opening panoramic roof but some don’t open at all and some are electromagnetic (i think lol) where the glass can tint itself from clear to opaque.

How can you say range is inconsequential? That’s the most selfish thing I have heard in a while! I had a megane with a 280 mile quoted range that did 140 in winter last year…i couldn’t even visit my parents on a 150 mile round trip without having to charge. That is very expensive and time consuming! I was paying 85p kw and to get 75 miles and was costing £25.50! Less than £10 of fuel gets me 75miles in my ZR-V 2.0l hybrid! So if you can’t charge at home 100% of the time it’s very very expensive! When cars can realistically do 250 miles, no matter the weather, then I will be looking at EVs again. For £65 I can fill my 57 litre fuel tank and get 600 miles!! It’s an obvious choice for me!
i got used to it with Groot (24kwh Leaf) Can i ask if you had frozen handles this morning? My wife couldn’t get in.
***apologies*** i quoted wrong post.. i was trying to reply to JMC’s post I went to see a Megane 2024 Techno comfort trim with heat pump at dealers last week. One of the most disappointing car experiences as i had high hopes the Megane would be my next car and i really like the external styling bar the over sized wheels. I just did not like the cabin at all. Felt very dark and confined. The Reversing camera was very blurry so the salesman got out and cleaned it but still blury..but the killer was the display 48% battery /81 miles and temp was 7 degrees. Just not the car for me but genuinely a little shocked by battery. Of course you have to expect lower range but this seemed extreme to me.
yeah the range is dreadful in the winter. It made the car unusable for us especially when all 5 of us were in the car. We never once managed a 150 mile trip without having to charge. I actually liked the interior and especially liked the way it drives. Such a shame. I thought the amount of Zoes sold over the years at Renault would have given them an advantage in battery tech but obviously not!
definitely much harder justifying an EV if you can only use public chargers.
yes you are 100% correct!! It cost £6 at home @10p per kW with a 60kwh battery. I was paying 79p! That’s an 800% increase lol. 1 day before we handed back the megane and picked up the ZR-V we received an email saying permission had been granted to install the charger. Motability had been so good letting us swap that we didn’t want to waste all the effort and time changing our mind and keeping the EV. 10 months later and I am still 50/50 that we did the right thing.

Have to say JMC 700 miles of range is impressive, but if I was traveling 700 miles without stopping, I would go by plane.
haha good point! It’s just one less thing to worry about. We never had a home charger though so 700 miles was costing us £160 using public chargers. Oh and I am 48 and have never been on a plane 😆 🤣
Hence why we handed our Megane back in January….150 miles @ 0°C! And from a manufacturer quoted 280 miles!! We couldn’t even complete a 75 mile trip e/w without charging. Whereas I have seen over 700 miles range on our new ZRV hybrid!
This in an issue with any car with LED lights. They don’t emit heat so it gets damp at certain times. I had this on my ateca as well as the megane.
Motability changed our megane after a few months because of this exact reason. 140-150 miles max in winter and only 220-230 in summer. They let us return it with no penalty. Call them. They are very very understanding.
You should get the exact model and colour you ordered. Nothing more and nothing less! Cancel it straight away. You may have to change to a different car if needed quickly but lots of dealerships have cars in stock and ready to collect a couple of weeks after the order.
It shouldn’t be an issue. Just be honest with motability. They are very understanding in my experience.
Happy for you JMC 🙂
thank you.
Your wife might grow to like it now👍
she’s not as happy as I am so a chat with motability may be necessary. Also the car has come back with a really rattling drivers door… they had to change a rubber seal and somethings not been put back right. Back again in the morning lol
All fixed!

I have a particular 20 mile round journey that I do and I get over 60mpg every time. But also a lot of motorways which is low 40s at 70mph. Excellent economy for such a big engine/car. 😉
Ive had a opening pano roof in my Kuga for over 3 years now…..ive never opened it….just the blind. If the Honda is not fit for purpose send it back or like as already been suggested keep it and never open it again.
mate we used our one every day. I live a mile away from the south coast and we have had amazing weather this summer. My 3 kids in the back loved it even more lol. Motability have already said that if they have no idea by Monday then to call them to discuss options. I’d rather they fix it but it’s getting more and more unlikely the longer it goes on. I think it would seriously wind me up if I kept it and it didn’t work. And literally just now, my missus has informed me that she hopes it gets returned as she doesn’t find the ZR-V comfortable…. its her award so I’d wish she had mentioned this earlier… like 8 months ago lol. She saw how much me and the kids liked it and decided to keep quiet. The main issue she says is the fact the passenger seat cannot be raised and only has the usual 4 way (powered) adjustment. Guaranteed the ZR-V will be fixed tomorrow now!!
Feel for you mate.I have the same car and it is without doubt the best motor I have ever owned!
me too! It is perfect for us. Maybe it’s lacking ventilated seats (the leather was so hot during the 30°C we had a few weeks back) but aside from that, it has everything we want and need and it’s perfect! I am currently in a top spec HR-V for the week and, although it’s nice, it’s just no where near as nice a place to spend time in. We have done 13k miles in 8 months in the ZR-V so it’s well used! Fingers crossed they fix it!
