Honda ZR-V may have to be returned

We have had our ZR-V advance since January and it’s perfect for our needs. Very comfortable, powerful and 700 miles on a full tank!! But…..our panoramic sunroof decided to break 6 weeks ago. I was opening it and it tripped out the fuse and would not close. It’s been into honda 3 times and aside from getting it closed, they can’t fix it. They have replaced the motor, switch, fuse and the channels (every moving/mechanical part) but it still trips out the fuse instantly and they have no idea! So I rang motability last week to get them in the loop. They have given honda 2 weeks from the beginning of last week to fix it otherwise if they don’t,  then motability says they will discuss other options with us like returning the car! Now the car has been back at honda since this Monday and they have until Friday to find a solution! My question is.. do you think they will replace like for like (perfect car for us and not on scheme any more and was only £1499 AP with every bit of kit available), or we will have to start again with a completely new order. There is nothing any where near the spec/size of our car on motability at all!! Not one. Thank for any help!

It is highly unlikely you will be allowed another ZR-V mate, as its no longer on the scheme.

Hyundai have the spec to match if not more depending on trim but, not at the AP you paid.

I’d speak with your dealer and try and push for a solution or even the slim possibility of getting another 🙂

yeah I thought as much. The only vehicles that seem to be good value and in my budget are the enyaq 85, ID4 match pro and the base ioniq 5…. all EVs, or the MG HS but even that has jumped in AP. I really really hope they can fix it for us. Thanks for the reply

One potential ‘last ditch hope’ if you really want to keep the Honda would be to ask Motability to temporarily change your ‘Managing Dealer’ to another Honda dealership, hopefully not too far away from you.

Then see if the other dealership can repair it (different technicians with ‘fresh eyes’, potentially trained at different times, more experienced on that model etc etc).

If you like the car that much would you consider keeping it with the sunroof unplugged so it can’t open and just have the panoramic roof?

If motability would agree to that and that you could change at any time in the next 2 years without penalty if another car comes on the scheme… of course they may not want to if the car isn’t working as it should.

me too! It is perfect for us. Maybe it’s lacking ventilated seats (the leather was so hot during the 30°C we had a few weeks back) but aside from that, it has everything we want and need and it’s perfect! I am currently in a top spec HR-V for the week and, although it’s nice, it’s just no where near as nice a place to spend time in. We have done 13k miles in 8 months in the ZR-V so it’s well used!  Fingers crossed they fix it!

Ive had a opening  pano roof in my Kuga for over 3 years now…..ive never opened it….just the blind.

If the Honda is not fit for purpose send it back or like as already been suggested keep it and never open it again.

mate we used our one every day. I live a mile away from the south coast and we have had amazing weather this summer. My 3 kids in the back loved it even more lol. Motability have already said that if they have no idea by Monday then to call them to discuss options. I’d rather they fix it but it’s getting more and more unlikely the longer it goes on. I think it would seriously wind me up if I kept it and it didn’t work. And literally just now, my missus has informed me that she hopes it gets returned as she doesn’t find the ZR-V comfortable…. its her award so I’d wish she had mentioned this earlier… like 8 months ago lol. She saw how much me and the kids liked it and decided to keep quiet. The main issue she says is the fact the passenger seat cannot be raised and only has the usual 4 way (powered) adjustment. Guaranteed the ZR-V will be fixed tomorrow now!!

I have a particular 20 mile round journey that I do and I get over 60mpg every time. But also a lot of motorways which is low 40s at 70mph. Excellent economy for such a big engine/car. 😉

she’s not as happy as I am so a chat with motability may be necessary. Also the car has come back with a really rattling drivers door… they had to change a rubber seal and somethings not been put back right. Back again in the morning lol
